BallerScriptParticipantdamn if I can get the city of Dallas and the fifth pick for Jaylen Brown then I’m taking it!
In all seriousness though, I think every team there should accept that trade because you are getting a definite star player who plays hard both ways in Jaylen Brown.
Unless they are certain that whoever they draft will be a star, I say pick up Brown!

OhCanada-ParticipantDallas says no, Orlando says no and Chicago might say yes but that decision would have to wait for draft night. Top 6 in this draft are too promising to pass on (Ayton, Doncic, Bagley, Bamba, Jackson, Porter). Having one of those guys on a rookie contract is a pretty safe bet towards your rebuild.

publius2481ParticipantBoston says no to all three. Brown has given you reason to believe he can develop into a star in this league. The odds of drafting a star player at 5 or lower are pretty low. Not to mention, Boston is in win now mode and Brown helps them now better than anyone they could get at 5,6, or 7 (even in a draft as deep as this one

BeastMode716Participantbut w/ the emergence of Tatum & the return of Hayward – Boston will have to bring someone off the bench
Also Al Horford is a Stud but he’ll be 33 by the next playoff appearance (2019) & The C’s don’t really have a big time Center
There are so many Stud young players in the 2018 Draft & since Phila will be Boston’s principle rival for years to come & they are absolutely stock w/ gigantic freak athletes who relentlessly attack the Rim & the Glass
If Boston could pick up any of those guys after Ayton – Jackson, Bagley, Bamba, Carter – Any of them would really fit that system very well & give the Celtics an element they don’t currently possess in the trenches

BleedGreen808ParticipantI’m not sure why so many people say with Hayward coming back one of Brown or Tatum needs to come off the bench. They started all 3 of Hayward, Brown, and Tatum on opening night this season. Obviously it would be nice to get one of the bigs you mentioned but I wouldn’t give up Brown to do it. He’s super valuable for what the Celtics want to do on both ends of the floor.

Yes, and you know what’s awesome … When the guys you bring off the bench are really, really good!

festar35ParticipantYeah I agree that Boston will say no. If Boston move a young talent like Jaylen Brown you best believe it’ll be part of a package to bring in a Super-Star level talent in an Anthony Davis, Kristaps Porzingis or another high quality big man. They got a great PG in Irving, not to o mention very set on the wing with Hayward and Tatum.

kobyzParticipantno need to touch the core of Irving, Horford, Hayward and the two young guys, that is a fantastic death lineup for today game…

HitsterParticipantAinge drafted Brown at 3 so no way he’d settle for a lower pick back and why would he move him. If anyone it legit could be Kyrie or Hayward. They nearly reached the finals without them so if they could get a high pick back he might think about it.
But realistically with a fit Kyrie and Hayward giving you 35ppg min combined and the upside of Brown and Tatum the Celtics will likely to the team to beat out East next year unless LBJ plays like he has done this play offs again or Philly really kick on.
Boston have a lot of minutes to share around and if someone has to be 6th man then so be it. They could run a 8 or 9 man core and give everyone decent minutes. Lots of teams go smallball now so they can probably use Tatum as a stretch PF with Hayward and Brown at 2 and 3 in some combo in some games.
If they run a deep roster then Horford won’t need to play huge minutes and can be fresh for the play offs. He just anchors the defence and does what he has been doing across his career – being effective but not putting up headline grabbing stats.

Memphis MadnessParticipantWhat about Marc Gasol, Ben McLemore, 32, a future 2nd round pick, and cash for Gordon Hawyard, 27, and our pick back?
With Tatum and Brown, I am not sure they need a Hayward, especially a banged up one.
Marc can orchestrate the offense, pass, rebound, and can score inside. He can also play some twin towers with Horford.
In McLemore the Celtics get a solidly athletic 3 point shooter.
The C’s are in win-now mode, as is Marc Gasol. If they had that pick NOW it would help a lot.
I would even think about holding on to the 32nd pick and throwing Andrew Harrison in there instead. A bit flawed, a bit slow, but is a really solid at defense, started at the 2 some, but is more of a point guard. Marcus Smart insurance if he leaves.
The C’s can’t think about waiting for that Grizz pick or the Kings’ pick. Get it done NEXT SEASON.
If the Celtics DO trade into this draft then I think they should target Mohamed Bamba. Best rim protector/shot blocker and rebounder in this draft. Best combination alley-oop threat/dunk artist in this draft, too — although Robert Williams III and Marvin Bagley III would give him a run for his money.
Maybe Boston should try to trade for Luka Doncic if he keeps falling.
In a position-less NBA (well, the 1 and 5 still matter), you go with versatility and depth at 1-4.
I think the Celtics should think about this trade anyway: Trade the 27th pick, Semi and Gabe along with the Grizzies and Kings pick (2019 first rounders), and a 2019 second rounder for 4, 33, 54, and JJ Barea.
JJ Barea gives the Celtics another creative scorer at guard, and at 4 they are more prepared to go ALL IN next season. Maybe pair Luka Doncic at forward with Tatum. They will be interchangeable at forward with Hayward, Marcus Morris, Tatum, and Luka. Kyrie, Brown, Smart, and Barea complete a 4 guard rotation. At 33 the C’s can go after a project shot blocker. Maybe Brandon McCoy.

publius2481ParticipantBoston would hang up in a second. Hayward is younger and under contract for 2 years, while Gasol is only under contract for 1 year (counting both players opt-outs). I doubt they would do Gasol for Hayward straight up. Gasol likely only has 1or 2 good years left given he turns 34 during next season, so his age does not fit this core. Adding in a valuable trade asset (Memphis’s pick) makes it a trade Boston would find laughable.
