Havn’t posted in a while…but I feel a Thon Maker post would be approriate 🙂

Maker has had a roller coaster of a ride on this site…so might as well start from the begining.

July 28th, 2011…made the 1st post about the Sudanese/Australian 8th grader on the site….since then…I have never seen a player more scrutinized & hyped at the same time….it truly has been astonishing.

I’ve read so much crazy $h*t about Maker on this site (and other sites) that I almsot wanted to stop following hoops altogehter  lol.

l remember reporting Maker & his bro were going to Canada before the mainstream media did…subsequently I got a few hateful emails 🙁

    Anyways…I digress.

Despite Maker getting absolutely NO LOVE from this site since day 1….as well as  that other site (at one time Maker was 40th on DX)…despite Makers 2 point game at Hoop Summit, that has been discussed in EVERY write up of his and talked about at nauseum since it happened….despite Maker’s age ALWAYS & FOREVER in question on this site (and boy did his age rear it’s ugly head today smh)…Thon Maker is still a Top 10 fkin draft pick!

Now whether Maker becomes a bust or not is indeed up for debate…but that’s neither here nor there. Since Day 1 I have said this kid is a no-brainer lottery pick. I bring this up not because it’s "rocket science"…but because I thought it was so obvious. Over the years however…I had to sit back and watch Thon get dragged through the mud…thus I was questioning if I knew what the hell I was talking about. Bottom line…it’s nice to watch this chapter of Maker’s life come to an end, and get a lil vindication in the process.

Anyways…besides the Maker mishap…NBA draft net is doing a pretty good job for this years draft…better than DX I think…so kudos for the nice work!

Hope everyone is doing well & enjoying the draft…thanks for letting me rant lol…peace out!

Same here. Before the predraft process I thought how in the hell is Labissiere rated higher than Maker? He had a year of college where he proved to be ineffective while Maker a gear younger is generally unproven but at least he hasn’t proven to be ineffective.

I think sometimes we forget that mock drafts are still someone’s opinion. It doesn’t matter who you are Aran Smith, Clayton Crow, Mikey V, Chad Ford, Woj, Jonathan Givony…noone knows what will happen draft night!

actually though tabout it………. It’s funny in academics you are trained to Never take comfort in Consensus or "Group Think"……..

You are Always taught that if you find yourself Agreeing w/ Massive amounts of peopl eon a Subject it is usually b/c "Group[ Think" has set in & you should Immediately review WHY u have the opinion that you have…..

Did you come to that Opinion honestly or did you just Lazily take comfort in Consensus & decide that it was easier to forgoe critical thinking……..

This was a Weak Draft class……. other than Simmons & Ingram it’s doubtful ANY of the other 1st rounders will play sginificant minutes this year initially………. So why NOT take Thon Maker at #10…….

Pretty much Every expert agree that Ingram & Simmons were day One starters & long term Stars……… Then 3 thru 9 were Starters as a Ceiling………… & after that it was a Crap shoot ——- Role Players at Best………..

So why Not gamble on Thon Make at #10…….. What did the Bucks have to lose???

Whilst I dont really rate Kidd as a great coach, he does have other things working for him.

Firstly hes ditched the Nets to find a place which allows him to have the managements ear…

And given how hard/impossible it is to win a title in a market like Milwaukee, hes prepared to try so many different things that eventually he will probably hit on one or two. Eg I dont like Greek Freak at PG….but give enough unconventional things a try and maybe you uncover a winning formula.

    continues regarding his age.

    http://uproxx.com/dimemag/thon-maker-year-book-photo/

this is the first time I haver been made aware of any physical evidence on the issue. If like they say he could be as old as 23 then hammojnds and Kidd are going to look negligent. Also when the mixtape came out he woulds have been a HS senior age player.

Eitherway he gets his cheques but they shadiness is alarming.

I dont think hes any more than 20 personally but …………….

Watching this thread unfold yesterday was a trip. http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1457747#start_here

Those guys over at that Bucks board are doing more investigation and background checking than even the Bucks did. In one day they got yearbook photos, contacting and getting quotes from multiple people who graduated with Thon back in 2010 (who are 22-24 btw), one of em even creating an account to post IN the thread showing video footage of him flipping through the yearbook, showing Thon in the graduating class of 2010. They talked about funding trips to go down there to visit the guy with the yearbook (luckily there are plenty of residual Aussie Bucks fans from the Bogut years), even possibly buying the yearbook. They’re dedicated for sure, even if the end result is them basically shtting on their favorite organization and its draft pick.

We hear the stink people raise about kids reclassifying in high school and we occasionally hear stories about kids like ‘Bazz Muhammad taking a year off their real age, but if true, this dude repeated high school! Not just repeating a year, the entirety of high school, grades 9-12. My impression of him as a 19 y/o versus his comp wasn’t good to begin with. Thinking about him as possible 22-23 y/o performing the way he did vs HS kids, how raw he is and how physically weak he is at an advanced age for a prospect… and the pick just looks laughably bad.
