I wanted to get everybody’s opinion on the strength of next year’s 2016 NBA Draft and who you guys are high on. (I know, its WAYYY early, but I’m bored and intrigued on the potential of this class)

 

 

Only thing I know for sure is that Ben Simmons will be an NBA All-Star in the league someday. Elite passing skills for a forward, has incredible vision; the only knock I have is that sometimes he doesn’t seem like he has a killer instinct/takes over games…but based off some interviews and watching some of his games, I don’t think its because he has a lack of love for basketball, I just think he likes to see his teammates succeed. In other words, he would rather have a 15pts, 9rbs, and 6asts game versus a 30pt game. That’s a good thing in my book.

 

 

 

Other than that, there are a million unknowns in this upcoming draft.  Guys I like that could be very good starters in the NBA are –

 

 

-Brandon Ingram – Skinny kid who can score

 

-Kris Dunn – plays on both ends, has a killer mentality, and has a swag about him that can’t be taught.  Could definitely start in the East and at worst, to me, could be a six man type player. Has a rep for being selfish, but I don’t see that, I see a guy that wants to win

 

-Caris LeVert – this is a big year for him. Tons of potential, due to his talent and size at the G position, but it will be interesting to see if he can lead a team. He hasn’t shown that yet, but I am a fan and I believe he can take the next step as a leader

 

-Isaiah Briscoe- I am VERY high on this kid.  NY bred G who can score in a variety of ways. Not very athletic, but really reminds me of Deron Williams when he crosses people.  Could be ELITE if he stays focused

 

What do yall think? Because the other guys are all ? marks to me, and most people think that this draft will be similar to 2013’s, aka a weak draft and there will probably be a lot of swings and misses.

I really like Skal Labissiere. He’s a long, athletic, shot-blocking center with a very fluid, diverse offensive game. A very rare combo making a great fit in today’s NBA.

Jaylen Brown has an NBA body and NBA athleticism right now as a freshman going to Cal. He basically has no handle or wiggle and just attacks the basket in straight line drives but he can work on that easily. He’ll put up numbers at Cal with another top recruit, Ivan Rabb. I expect Jaylen Brown to be good and be a top five pick in the draft next year.

grayson allen of duke…..with all those vets in front of him last season,he didnt get much playing time early on..but hit his stride doing the tourney…and created quit a buzz……he will be 1 of duke’s go to guys next season….sure he needs to workout some kinks in his game…but learning under coach k he will get better…..top 25 draftee whenever he decides to turn pro…

Outside of the consensus 1st round guys, I’m interested to see how Grayson Allen progresses at Duke in an increased role, if Wayne Selden will take a step forward at all in what could be a make or break season for him, and if there will be another small school darling who cracks into the lottery like there have been in the past few years.

 this may get me some negative votes but i’ve been picturing ben simmons as… i dont want to say "the next" lebron, but similar to him. with his passing ability for his size, his size (nba ready), athleticism. kind of how kobe is the heir to jordan ("the most competitive ‘killer’ since jordan", same style of play), but almost universally agreed he isnt quite what jordan was… this kid definitely styles his play after lebron and seems to have the same kinda nature to him. "poor mans" lebron? will be a franchise player and #1 option on pretty much any team mostly because he’ll have the ball in his hands. by the time the draft comes around he’ll be the #1 pick for whatever team wins the lottery unless its minnesota. skal labissiere would be hard to pass up playing beside KAT and learning from Garnett. overall, simmons, skal, and jalen brown are all-star material top 3. Dragan Bender will get some hype surrounding him, maybe alot if kristaps holds up this year (not saying they are the same player, just skinny euro dudes). but it will be a drop-off after top three… better than 2013 tho for sure.

 I am high on Nigel Hayes and Henry Ellenson. They are both bigs with offensive talent who can shoot the three. Hayes has shown improvement in his time at Wisconsin and Ellenson should be able to be productive at Marquette.

 I’m going to shy away from what everyone else is doing by naming off the best prospects, and go for guys who I think are forgotten about, but who I think can have long careers in the NBA. 

I’m really excited to see Rodney Purvis (If he declares). He was the #1 ranked player in North Carolina, and was the #20 ranked prospect nationally coming out of high school. He transfered and had to sit out that year, but going to Uconn was the best thing that could have happened to him. He shot well making 36% of his 3’s on almost 5 per game, but it’s his ability to finish at the hoop which is exciting. He’s a plus defender, and had to guard players much bigger than him for most of the year, but his decent size and athleticism helped to mitigate that. I think with Boatright gone, UConn is Pervis’ team, and it should be interesting to see what he can do. IF he delivers, his draft stock will surely be raised, and he could be a late 1st round player. 

Nigel Hayes is another player I’m going to keep an eye on. He played great feeding off of Dekker and Frank, so this is going to be a big year for him. If he can come out and be a focal point for WIS, while still keeping his positive %’s, than he could be a player to keep an eye on as well. His ability to shoot the 3 ball so well is what will keep me posted.

Malik Pope is another player to watch. He’s a legit 6’10 with a 7-2 wingspan and 9+ standing reach. His production was great for his time on the floor, and he had an 110 ORtg and 89 Drtg. I think he could become like another San Diego player in Kawhii Leonard. Again it should be interesting to see if he can produce with a bigger role, and if he’ll even come out

This year’s class was considered to have maybe 3 top stars a year ago – KAT, Okafor and Mudiay, over the year Russell forced himself firmly into that group almost at the expense of Mudiay and Porzingis became a legit top 5 pick but maybe never caught up with the two bigs and Russell.
