 If anyone can guard Kobe it is most definitely Shane Battier. I remember those close outs when he was with Houston in the playoffs. Was always in his face. Maybe not as much now but in his prime he was a premier wing defender.

Deng has gotten better guarding LeBron, but he still has a 31 average against him all time.

And this year I don;t know anybody playing better man on defense then Andre Iguadola.  The defense he played on Derrick Rose was a huge reason for the Sixers blowing the Bulls off the court.  His defense on James this year has been great except that left Wade free to tear it up.  His defense on Kobe Bryant was the main reason the Sixers came back and beat the Lakers after Iggy locked Kobe down in the 2nd half only letting him get 4 points.  He played great defense on Melo earlier in the year that still resulted in Melo hitting an impossible turnaround fadeaway to seal the game.

So if I had to pick one player to guard these guys with the exception of Howard it would be hands down Iggy.

^ I agree. Some people just look at his offensive stats and think he is having an off year. Yet, he is just becoming what he is, a shut down defender with a nice overall game. This is his best season as a pro, by far.

 Yeah this is hands down Iggy’s best year as a pro even better then the year he averaged 20 after the All Star break and him and Andre Miller lead the Sixers on an impossible run where they went from the 2nd worse record in the league to the 7th seed which resulted in a 1st round exit and destroyed every dream I had of Kevin Durant in a Sixers uniform.  

That year I was mad at Iggy’s excellence,  but last year while Turner sat on the bench as Iggy played is usual enigmatic ball I began to hate him.  While I still want Iggy traded it’s impossible to be mad at him still because this guy is playing as hard as anybody in the league, he really is.  He plays so hard hard everynight, but this year he’s playing smart too, really smart.  

He finally realized he’s not a number one option so he don’t play like it anymore, which has lead to a brilliant year by him and his first All Star selection.  Isn’t it funny how the year he stops playing like he’s a go to scorer is the year he get’s his first All Star birth.  It’s also the Sixers best year since the A.I. era which goes to show you how far team basketball and defense will take you.  And Iggy has mastered both this year.

Defense will keep you in the league longer than anything else. Unless you are the president of the NBPA, then you can play as long as you want.Or your last name is Scalabrine. Other than that, it’s defense.

The best i’ve seen on Kobe was the year the rockets through the combo of battier and artest at him.

tony allen is also proven against him.

and as for durant in the first round series they lost to their lakers artest did a great job on durant, denying him space and literally not allowing him to get to his spots, especially in the final seconds.

D Rose- Collison does really well against him INDY. I agree with the Lebron comment that was already mentioned.

Dirk- by far, the best defender on him is Nick Colison. This will suprise anyone who didn’t want the Western Conference Finals last year. Nick gives him fits and always has his hands in  a position to strip Dirk before he can get the ball up for his unblockable fadeaway.

I think Kenyon Martin has done a great job on Dirk in the past. He more or less thugged him rather then play good D, but it was effective.

Holiday/Wall/Westbrook on Rose/Paul/Williams and star Point Guards 

Iguadola,Nic Batum and Luc Ricard Mbah Moute on Kobe,Lebron,Melo and Durant

Bynum, Perkins and Tyson Chandler on Howard and other dominate Bigs…

I agree that Iguadola may be the best man to man defender in The NBA, if not the best then he’s no lower then 5th(If you hate him and think Batum,Mbah Moute,Tony Allen and Gerald Wallace is slightly better)…But If I’m picking a guy to slow down Kobe/Lebron/Melo/Durant than give me Iguadola All Day Every day, hell he’s the only great defender that can make his man work just as hard on Defense IMHO, all the other defender are Offensive Liabilties or role players(spot up shooters, strictly slashers) Iggy is complete as a passer, slasher, shooter(at times) and he his playing smarter as mentioned above…I think Iguadola should be one of the Most Valued players in the NBA as far as Championship Caliber Ball clubs are concerned, I would think Iguadola would fetch a fair amount in The Trade Market with making the All Star Team and Playing Elite level defense while being a Very good offensive player at the same time…

At the Point guard spot I’d want a long and athletic guard who can keep up with The Likes a Derrick Rose and Company, I think Wall has the lenght you would love for the job but lacks the overall focus to become an Elite defender, Westbrook and Holiday are at the Top of my list, although I feel Holiday is a better man to man defender and pure point guard, I think Westbrooks freakish athletism makes him an easy choice, having Rose guard Westbrook in return gives you a better shot…

As far as Howard goes, I think I’ve seen salty vets hold their own against him, It’s the new school(soft in the ass) generation that he kills, Perkins and Brand have also made life harder for D12 but they can be overwhelmed by Howards speed and quickness over time, Chandler and Bynum have the size and mobility to keep up better but even then you’d still Howard out quick and out jump them over the span of a game…Guys like Jordan in LA and McGee in Washington have the elite level speed and leaping ability to defend Howard in the future, but they are so far away from being great man to man defenders it’s ridiculous, Jordan is improving but he’s still a mile away the point of being a great defender…

 Pekovic locked up Dwight Howard last night. He might be the best post defender on Centers or PF’s that like to bang because you cannot move him, and he will push you off the spot you want to establish.
