WinterSoldierParticipantLavar Ball blames UCLA to not winning because of the white players. I find that funny because to me it seemed TJ Leaf was their most valuable player was white and Lonzo was the one guarding Fox who torched him.

llperezlonzo has always stayed out of these things when his dad talks but this is the second time lavar has called out specific ucla players(its obvious who he is talking about since they started 3 white guys and he also called out bryce and leaf by name earlier in the year saying how much better lonzo will be once you replace byrace alford and tj leaf for nba talent which is silly considering leaf is headed right along with lonzo to the nba and was fantastic this season) and it would be nice if lonzo stood up for his teammates this time.

I miss FlipParticipantI don’t get why Lavar would say this when Lonzo is half white himself.
0- Posted on: Fri, 04/07/2017 - 4:54am #1095214
ph90702He said more than half white. His father obviously has white ancestry, as do 99% of black people in this country.

OhCanada-ParticipantI need to hear what he said and how he said it before I jump to conclusions but from the looks of it this is bad. If he said "we couldnt win because of the three white guys" but if he said "nobody can win with threewhirte guys" its stereotyping and a racist generalization and quite frankly if the tabels were turned and a white father said his son lost because of the black guys on the team there would be blacklivesmatter protests and it would be a much bigger deal.
But for Lavar mission accomplished. Hes getting knee deep stirring up the sh!t dont expect it to stop until Lonzo gets settled into his rookie season.

vulture711ParticipantLonzo’s white half that can’t play D

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantIf lavar ball keeps making racist statements like this he just might become president some day.

MachettiParticipantImagine if this was the opposite and a white said that. I don’t mind what was said, but we sure would make a big deal if a white person said. Albeit even if LaVar was joking. I personally like LaVar’s outlandish personality we need more of that from other people. This world is sometimes too politically correct. This league has gotten to soft LaVar is stirring the pot. Plus it also proves LeBron is sensitive when LaVar said that about his kids. LBJ just ignore it, don’t stoop down to his level. Michael Jordan didn’t say anything when he said he could beat him because MJ knew LaVar is clown.

mtpandolfiParticipantGuess Lavar didn’t watch the 2010 Duke team cut down the nets.

“Realistically you can’t win no championship with three white guys because the foot speed is too slow” – Lavar ball, overweight guy in this video with the slowest foot speed you’ve ever seen.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantIf LaVar wants to treat his kids’ basketball careers as a family business, he ought to learn how to avoid saying things that will make people not like him or them. Lonzo is going to be a top 3-5-7 pick. What no one should want to happen is for a team GMs and coaches to sit down in the lead up to the draft, and have to give weight to having to deal with this guy in assessing Lonzo versus one of the other players they are considering with their top 3-5-7 pick. More so than the dumb comments about LeBron’s kid, Barkley, or Jordan, this one makes me think that is more than just hypothetical. He went after Lonzo’s teammates after a loss, and framed it racially. Both a huge. There is not a coach around who is going to meet the press after a game or practice and get hit with questions about what dumb thing a player’s dad said, not about his players, coaching, or strategy. Certainly not about the race of his players.

Sewok15ParticipantHe has been talking crazy for a while but people get really uncomfortable when you bring race into the discussion. I once got over 100 negs on this very website for making the claim that no White American player will ever be drafted #1 again when this site had Cody Zeller sitting atop an early draft board.
Zach Collins, TJ Leaf, Luke Kennard and Tyler Lydon are all first round prospects but none are in consideration for the top slot. Last year Henry Ellenson was the only White American player drafted in the first round. The year before only Kaminsky and Decker. McDermott and McGary the year before that. Zeller, Len and Plumlee in 2013. It has been ten drafts since a White American player was taken top 3 and that was Adam Morrison who probably set white guys back at least a decade with his career.
Overall black guys are better at basketball it is no secret. That doesn’t mean you can’t win a title with white guys on your squad but there is a reason a team of all white guys probably hasn’t won since they started letting black guys play…

EndlessknightParticipantThe reason there hasn’t been a white American drafted #1 has nothing to do with race and everything to do with the fact that no white American player has been good enough to go #1, simple as that. I could easily see Doncic going #1 next year and Andrea Bargnani was draft first overall back in 2006. And while neither is American they do show race is not an issue.

Sewok15ParticipantThere is a clear talent gap in this country. I am not saying it is impossible just very improbable judging from the recent past. I have seen Doncic projected #1 as well and European players have done well but in America basketball is primarily dominated by black people. It is just a fact. This doesn’t mean I agree with Lavar I am just saying this is no more crazy than anything else he said it will just get more attention due to the racial aspect.

joe2324ParticipantAs a white man, I’m ok with his statements. The man is entitled to his opinion. Truth is blacks are better atheletes than whites, but thats not to say white guys in the nba are not talented.

EndlessknightParticipantAnd the racism continues…
0- Posted on: Fri, 04/07/2017 - 4:23pm #1095258

Sewok15ParticipantStating facts isn’t racist. There is a reason that black people make up 17% of the US population and 75% of the NBA and 68% of NFL. As a whole black people are better athletes than white people. A white dude hasn’t won the 100 M in the Olympics since 1980 and I don’t see that happening again anytime soon.
0- Posted on: Fri, 04/07/2017 - 4:42pm #1095260
EndlessknightParticipantIf it’s a fact can you please point me to some peer review scientific studies that prive it?
And if blacks are athleticly superior to whites what are whites superior at relative to blacks?
0- Posted on: Sat, 04/08/2017 - 1:17pm #1095327

Sewok15ParticipantMaking money and not getting arrested….don’t tell me you need more stats.
0- Posted on: Sun, 04/09/2017 - 8:23am #1095353
EndlessknightParticipantLike I said the racism continues. Just because a statistical asymmetry exist doesn’t mean it’s caused by race. Correlation does not imply causality.

sheltwon3ParticipantOnly in the PC world is this racist and what not, we all know that white players tend to be less athletic and even the atheletic ones like David Lee and Parson laterally quickness is not great. I think what Lavar said was out of line because it hurts the perception of the kids he was talking about. Leaf is a pretty good player and has decent athleticism. In college you can win with white players. That doesn’t happen in NBA now though because athleticism is key to getting you shot off and guarding the other player.
There is no system set up by black people that are keeping white people out of the NBA, they have ample opportunity to prove they are more or just as athletic and that has not happened when their number pool in the US is greater. His remark shows bias but he does not have the power to deny entry. If he was an owner, general manager, or coach, you may be worried. A fan saying what we all know to be true to some degree is different. UCLA had more talent than UNC and UNC won the championship. They have more athletes though and played a grind it out style of play.

markfitz14ParticipantRadio stations etc. need to stop talking to this guy. He is getting to much air time right now. Shut him down. But the media loves a controversy so they prbly will talk to him more now for the rest of these kids careers.

BeastMode716ParticipantAnd Kentucky absolutely exploited that match up (as Any good coach should & would exploit a Match Up advantage)
but someone should clue in Lavar that his kid Lonzo WAS one of the white kids getting cooked at Both ends by the superior athletes wearing Kentucky jerseys
good Lord, coach Alford tried to protect Lonzo by putting Jru Holiday’s little brother on Fox & putting Lonzo on Malik Monk b/c Malik doesn’t handle the rock like Fox does & Monk lit Lonzo on Fire…..
