PlatypusParticipantEvan Turner needs to play for a team where he can play the triangle offense because this is what he needs. He needs the ball in his hands to be who he can and reach his full potential. his coach even said that he is "not a shooting guard" "Jodie Meeks is the only shooting guard on the team". The wrong team drafted Turner and now he has to suffer. It sucks because he has talent but he needs to be in the right system.

Ralph_WiggumParticipantFor sure agreed, he needs to go to minny. Turner and Battie for Wes Johnson and maybe Pekovic if Minny would take that

llperezhe also just needs to get better. I dont see him having an impact on any team in the league the way hes playing right now. But style wise, for him to reach his potential, he pretty much has to have the freedom to be basically a pg. Not sure if the triangle offense is what he needs or not.

Sonny RedParticipantThere is nothing special about his skill set besides his ability to rebound from the guard position, and it is not one of the most important things you want from a guard, especiall one drafted 2nd. I don’t get why people are saying he needs the ball in his hands, have you actually seen his dribbling ablity? It might have been good in college, but in the NBA it is average at best for a guard, he doesn’t see the court good enoug either to be a play maker, because when he drives he dribbles with his head down. He actuallly looks like a nut when he drives to the basket, just like Iggy. They often get stuck under the basket and throw up a crazy shot, or pass to someone they shouldn’t be passing to. He doesn’t even have great the athletic ability guys like Pippen, Hill, and even Iggy have, the guys he wants to play like. Could just be one them guys who reached his max talent in college? I don’t know, to early to say, but right now he looks bad. The jump shot is a joke right now, he almost put a pull from the foul line through the back board tonight!

Meditated StatesParticipantHe should start preparing to be one or become a sniper jump shooter.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantYou need to be a good perimeter shooter to do well in the triangle offense. That’s why Odom struggled at first.

IndianaBasketballParticipantTurner isn’t a very good shooter and struggles playing off of the ball… That means he wouldn’t be a great fit in the triangle.
Turner just isn’t playing well and has lost confidence. He has to get better and put in work to improve his weaknesses.

sheltwon3ParticipantI think it is the system. A lot of players have looked terrible in a system and then look like All Stars in others. Miami system cripple both Dorell Wright and Mike Beasley. Larry Brown system crippled a lot of player’s game. Evan Turner is not as bad as his numbers show and unlike some past busts if Evan Turner becomes available, there will be mad team after him.
Also the situation down in Philly is not that great and Meeks is a great shooter something Turner is not and Philly needs a great shooter with Iggy being more of a slasher.

apb540ParticipantWith 3 mins left in the 3rd quarter, TV showed him yawning on the bench…..

yellowdunkerParticipantIMO I think if Washington or Minny wouldve took Evan turner he wouldve had a better chance than #1Philly who had the best chance I belive…John Wall wouldve been nice with A.I. that all bring me to the conclusion the NBA is rigged the draft is RIGGED!! just like the year my bulls got D.Rose and Blake Griffin to LAC was perfect in stead of OKCwhy???? cause they couldnt bring 2 hometown kids in 2yrs in a row it wouldve been too obvious so the thing is Davin Stern had to prove a point after that GUN situation with Arenas how perfect it will it be to bring a high potential PG (John Wall) in and play with super star already proven Arenas which play the same position…SO it all goes back to Turner and pretty much f*cked his chances up till either sum1 is traded or his rookie contract is over……

Cardinal_FanParticipantIf Evan Turner could knock down jumpshots consistently i dont think we would be having this conversation. Imo Turner needs to hit the gym this offseason and work on his shot, having a consistent jumpshot could open up alot more ballhandling oppurtunities 4 him. Turner is not overly quick or an explosive athlete so therefore i think his game will be based on skill level, craftiness and basketball IQ, sort of like a Paul Pierce. Not saying he could be Pierece but there physical and sthletic makeup is the same. My advice to Turner would be get in the gym and get a jumpshot.

mj23mj23besteverParticipantyes philly imo is a bad fit for him but when your getting beat out by jodie meeks come on man it is still early but ive been saying it sense the draft turner is gonna be the biggest bust out of the lottery heck in a redraft he wasnt even in the top ten

delfamParticipantyou have to give him another season, Turner a really hard worker so I think he knows what he needs to improve. He hasn’t even gone through his first offseason yet, I think he’ll improve alot during the offseason just cause his work ethic.

IndianaBasketballParticipantThe thing that’s surprised me even more than I thought it would about Turner is his lack of blow by speed/quickness. I mean, he wasn’t even able to turn the corner against defenders during the summer league. That’s when I knew he’d have problems. He’s playing like his knees hurt.
He needs more than just a jumpshot. He needs to learn how to move and play without the ball. He also needs to start going somewhere when he dribbles instead of just dribbling in the same spot. I feel like he’s not going anywhere.
He doesn’t really have a position right now. He’s not a point. Not a shooting guard. Not a small forward.

Meditated StatesParticipantHe needs to become a sniper with his jumpshot. Thats what I am saying. It will open up the rest of his game. I do not believe he is a superstar, but he could be a very good role player.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI don’t see Turner ever being more than just an average shooter with little to no three-point range. I don’t like his shooting mechanics.
Some users may not like it, but when I look at Turner, I see a player who has an average future. His upside is limited. Is he even an average athlete? He doesn’t cover a lot of ground and he has short arms.
He’ll get better, but I don’t see Brandon Roy at all. Well, let me change that… I do see Roy in Turner, except it’s the version of Roy we’re seeing now… The guy with no meniscus in either knee.

joecheck88Participanti think he would be good coming off screens ala rip hamilton if he works on that midrange game. rip is a good 3 point shooter, ball handler or very athletic. turner needs to learn to play off ball and get a jumper. if he gets a jumper he will gain some quickness because defender will have to be ready for that. i see a good starter in turner but never saw the grant hill or brandon roy comparison. i mean ive seen b roy get up and he is no average athlete. or atleast he wasnt an average athlete. the man could get up.

yellowdunkerParticipantThe kid needs the ball in his hand more of a pg than anything…..

Sonny RedParticipantThere are guys who never get the jump shot down, like Iggy. He was in the same position as Turner when it came to the jump shot when he came to the league, and he has never become a great jumper shooter. There has to be something to work with to make a guy a strong jump shooter, and Turner just doesn’t have the proper techniques, so it is probably too late in the game for him to learn how to shoot a J properly now after him playing 4 years in HighSchool, 3 in College, and 1 in the NBA. He doesn’t have a high ceiling, but he was the right pick for the Sixers, they need a two guard and go to player, but it seems he is not going to be the guy.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 12/10/2010 - 11:24am #455291

Meditated StatesParticipantAlways thought that. Will he be better than Iggy? I say no never. He could prove me wrong, but Turner does not have the quickness to blow past guys his size in the L more athletic.
