I’ve been off and on this message board, but have been since the begining of the college season, before the points thing. The points really changes junk up, and I decided to see if people think in a good way.

I broke it down

The good

People are trying to write better because they want to get them up (we all do it), so less bs
We have a better way to see who is whack and kinda filter through good posters
Its easier to know when people agree with you

The Bad

I feel like its a little bit faker and more like high school, with everybody posting clingy threads wondering why everybody is giving them bad points.
Before points, the posts were alot more like scouting reports, which is kind of what Im more interested in.
Now It seems to me a little bit more about youtubes and Kobe.

So in my opinion, I decided I liked it better without the points, but still think the points are kind of fun. (so give me more haha) What does everybody else think?

just kidding. I think they are dumb. I don’t play the points game unless I really think someone said something dumb. How many points people have has nothing to do with what they know or contribute. I don’t read someone’s post and think about how many points they have. When I see people take my points, it doesn’t bother me, but i just wish they would argue with me and tell me why I’m wrong since debating basketball is why I come here.

But i agree that points do inspire people to be a little more respectful and articulate in their arguments instead of just spouting off at whatever.

I don’t like the points thing at all. There are too many teenagers on this site who are immature and can’t handle points. I just warn users about stupid comments, if they are irrelevant or offensive. Or I remove threads if they are really stupid. Works so much better.

i give good posts points, but i agree, i wish we didnt have the point system. People take too much offense if u give them a negative point, and a lot of times they aren’t desrved

It’s unpopular to say you like the points idea and that you care about points, but I actually like the idea. I put thought into the things I say and try to back up my arguments with good reasoning, so yea… I do care about points to a certain extent. However, do I post to get points? No. I also don’t bite my lip when it comes to posting my opinion about topics that could get me a few negative points. I’m not afraid to respectfully disagree with someone either. I don’t necesarily mind getting negatives… It’s when people don’t tell me why they disagree and debate it out with me. That’s part of the main reason I’m here. I’m here to keep up on basketball news, learn more basketball knowledge, hear other people’s opinions and debate.

I disagree. I think majority of the point leaders are people who have extensive basketball knowledge. Llperez22, Iguodala09, Gatorheels, Kacey4321, JoeWolf1 and a couple others. Now, does that mean a person who isn’t a point leader doesn’t have knowledge? No. However, it means that they need to continue posting about different topics and gain the respect of the other posters.

Of course the point system has it’s negatives, but I’m sticking to the positives. It makes people step their “posting” game up and I’m all for that.

i have mixed feeling. i used to have a hater who would give me a negative on every post but now hes gone i think, i feel that points are semi accurate the leaders are all top posters but still theres some people like qhaynes who should have more as for me i dont use them at all i dont give or take if its a good post i say i agree or say its a good post, and if i disagree i wont do it the wimpy way and take a point i tell them what i disagree about, and i dont give myself points. i dont think ive given or taken a point in like months so i dont care about the points much.

I feel like the point system is now misused because of the people who abused it early on. IMO, everyone should use the point system like mature adults. I distribute points in this fation because I feel it is how it should be done:

+1 for someone who makes an intelegent, informative, interesting topic
+1 for someone who makes a valid arguement even if it is the opposite of my views or beliefs
+1 for someone who is really there to contribute to the post in a serious way and shows it with a good post.
+1 for someone who makes a valid, comprehensive point

no points for people how drop post that really dont have any significant value
no points for someone who post someting like “I agree” or answers a question in less than 5 words
no points for myself by myself

-1 for someone who has noting to contribue to the post
-1 for someone using foul language in an attempt to argue
-1 for someone who insist on calling people out or putting them down
-1 for someone who makes an incomprehensive or invalid arguement or post.

Thats how I do it and thats how I feel it should be done.

Im still somewhat against them, but Do acknowledge that if everybody was more mature about them, it could be a cool thing. Its kind of like debate.

Im glad some of the more respected posters came out for this one and I feel like I got good input on my question.
When we first got the point thing I was afraid it would ruin this site to be honest, but Its something i can live with.
