…why don’t teams practice with an NBA three point line?  If opposing teams played as if there was an NBA three point line as opposed to the college three point line, then they would have much better spacing against Syracuse’s 2-3 zone.  It would be easier to drive the ball and negate their length to a certain extent.  When Michigan played Syracuse in the Final Four last year, they were making NBA distance threes, and they tore apart Syracuse’s 2-3 zone.

I agree that that would be a solid idea, but Michigan did NOT tear the zone apart last year.  They shot under 40% from the field and 33% from 3 point range.  That was a game where neither team could score, and Syracuse’s inability to knock down 3 pointers finally came back to bite them.

For Michigan, the 3 guys that you would expect to stretch out the zone (Burke, Stauskas, and Hardaway) shot a combined 5/29 from the field and 4/18 from 3.  The defense worked very well against Michigan.  The offense is what failed them.

They scored 36 points in the first half.  Jim Boehim was starting to panic at the start of the game because Michigan was making NBA three pointers.

Lol, yeah, I don’t think Boeheim was panicking at all.  Teams often make a few long 3’s at the beginning of the game and then think that’s their shot the rest of the game.  That’s part of what makes the zone work.

what I was going to say. Its not a bad idea, but for it to work you would have to have players on your team who’re threats from NBA 3 range

I think it’s more important to attack the creases against a zone, along with Getting the ball to the free throw line. If you get the ball into the middle of a zone, its basically beaten. It amazes me that Syracuse has had so much success with it.

I feel like it would be easier to attack creases if they were bigger.
