If you were already out of contention for a playoff spot and another team owned your draft pick even if you did make the playoffs, would you start tanking Asap or try to fight through to the end? Im asking as a 76ers fan who feels like we should start tanking for a Top 3 pick, even in this draft when most critics feel its a weaker class , I feel the best way to improve is through the draft and free agency, most teams hit big in the top 4, I don’t want to build with mediocre prospects in the late lottery…So should the 76ers and teams in their situation start tanking now, next year will be interesting with that great crop of Freshmen coming into college basketball

Next years freshman are legit! Seeing as its a lottery I never seriously thought about it but if I get any if the top 3 picks next year I would feel pretty lucky.

Now’s a good time to start for the Cavs now that Irving is hurt. The Bobcats look like they’re well on their way (IMO, having BJ Mullens in their starting lineup has been an all-season ploy to tank, lol), as are PHX and ORL. Sacto did a good job starting by trading T-Rob (I’m still SMH and WTFing over that deal, I truly feel sorry for any Kings fan on this forum), my Wolves should start tanking further (though the injury bug has more than done its job this year)…

The 6ers are in a really tough spot. They’d clearly benefit from a wing guy (SG/SF), but what would benefit them most is a scientist to grow new knee tissue for Bynum. That said, they’re prolly safe to start tanking now.

I think my all-time favorite/most shameful/shameless tank job was when last year, the Warriors basically started 5 D-Leaguers so they’d be able to keep their pick (Barnes).

Alot of teams tank this time of year. In fact tanking is getting worse and worse it seems each year.

The Warriors should not have been allowed to keep that pick lol…But it happened and Im happy them and Barnes, it was a great fit and the Jazz clearly didnt need another top 7 prospect after getting Favors, Kanter, Burks and Hayward in consecutive drafts, The Sixers need a Top 5 pick this year, they certainly need a talent infusion and soon…Cavs should pair the Zeller brothers up if possible, The Jazz should attempt to trade up for a Pg, the Kings and Bobcats are doomed unless they relocate to Seattle and Kansas City in the next 2 years…

I wouldn’t even want to tank for this years draft. I don’t see any of the prospects this year that could go #1 as franchise changing players.

The Sixers have done well with mid range picks lately. Thad Young, Speights, Vucevic and Harkless were all after 12. I don’t know if tanking is worth it because you lose money in ticket sales for next year and create hopelessness. Philly is one of those northeast talk radio towns that will kill you for tanking. I’m all for tanking if you choose to sit a beat up player or two but not noncompetitive tanking. Like if Thad Young, who is priced right at what he should as a core contributor for 4 years, then if he is beat up some let him sit.

Like in football its best to lose your first eight than your last eight. It creates a culture of losing and low expectations. Nobody could play 25 minutes a night for Philly except McLemore or Porter anyway.

Almost never worth it to tank. In most drafts only the first pick is a lock to be a franchise changing talent. After that pick, most teams can only identify legit NBA starters with the first four picks and have little beyond random chance in picking a star. After the top five picks, most teams can’t even consistently find a guy who should start for them. So only worth tanking if you can get a legit chance at that first pick and at least get into the top three.

Better to win games, get fans to pay for tickets, take that money and spend it wisely. Take the money and buy draft picks in the second round. Get three or four there and someone will pan out.

The moment you realize your team is not a playoff team. I would shift from playing to win to playing to develop talent on the team for next season. In a mild manner, it seems to be what the Trail Blazers are doing.
