What’s more likely to happen, Lonzo Ball becomes a top 3 pick in next year’s NBA Draft? Or Jason Tatum falls out of lottery consideration?

I know it’s way too early, but I have been a huge fan of Lonzo Ball for awhile. His size at the PG position, his innate passing ability, and his ability to make others around him better will really show at UCLA this season(despite the coaching from Alford). I definitely think he has the ability to surpass Fultz and Smith Jr. (and that’s not a knock on them)

Jason Tatum, on the other hand, does not impress me. Pretty average athleticism coupled with no killer instinct would make me think twice on a draft loaded with talent. I also see guys like Grayson Allen, Harry Giles, and even Frank Jackson getting up more shots than Tatum. Tatum seems like someone I could see fall in the 17-20 spot in next year’s draft.

Let me know what you guys think…

I could easily see ball going top 3 he’s def got the size. That duke team is going to be scary next year but Tatum has good size for a small forward in the nba I don’t see him falling out the lottery. One guy I think will shoot into the top 10 is Bam Adebayo he is a boy in a Giants body. He’s 6’10 and he’s ripped looks like a young Dwight Howard to me.

Lonzo could easily end up being one of the best players in next years draft. Even as a Duke fan, he is by far my favorite player from his class. Something drastic would have to happen for Tatum to fall out of the lottery  He has good size, improving athleticism and shooting. He already has a really good skill set. from what I’ve seen from him so far, I think he can be a Paul George type of player

I agree with OP.  If those 3 players on Duke are all going to get more shots up than Tatum, which seems likely… what exactly is he going to contribute?  I am not a fan of his at all at this point in time.  One dimensional.

Tatum is a young Paul Pierce.  He is so smooth that he’s got you confused.  I think he rises in the draft like Ingram.  Harry Giles has an NBA game, he is going to get all clogged up playing zones.

On this website who are trying to predict how good high school players will be in the pros. No offense to OP, more to this obsession on the internet where everyone can voice their opinion and try to sound right. I don’t think anyone really knows who is going to be decent until all these guys play in college. This time last year Skal was the #1 or #2 pick and Malik Newman was a top 10 pick as well while Brandon Ingram wasn’t even top 5 on some sites. Two years ago, Cliff Alexander was a top 10 pick and Okafor was a better prospect than Towns. Three years ago, Embiid was in the 5-10 range but no where close to where he was by the end of college seasons, where injuries prevented him from being the consensus #1 pick in the draft. All this talk on the internet drives me crazy because its hard enough to predict these guys coming out of college let alone coming out of high school.

No no one knows for sure how good someone is gonna be but that’s the point of this and other forums. For people to share their opinions. Not even the guys that get paid to scout and examine these players can certainly say how someone is gonna turn out unless it’s obvious like with lebron James in high school

Can’t see Tatum falling out of the lottery, even though I’m not the biggest fan of his. This draft has talent but not that much where 14 other guys will jump him.

Tatum is sort of like Harrison Barnes to me. It’s hard to be a superstar wing in the league when you don’t have some combination of being a freak athlete with length, a nice three-point shot and point-foward skills. Like Barnes, he’s has a low assist-to-turnover ratio, he’s not a freak-level athlete, though he does have some nice length to him, and his three-point stroke is decent but not so where he’ll be an elite volume shooter from there.

Ball is cool but he’d have to incredible at UCLA for me to see him bump up to #3. His frame is just too skinny for me to see him be a good finisher around the rim and it’s not like he’s the most explosive guy too.

for a Small school in Chino & he played w/ Both his Brothers — & they played in a Crazy up tempo system that was fun to watch & Lonzo Ball certainly looks like a Can’t Miss PG prospect BUT scouts Are wondering how he will perform in a Traditional setting

Ball has Great size at nearly 6’6” – has a herky jerky Shooting MEchanics but he routinely Drains 30 ft 3 point shots! Still, a Lot of scouts Really want to see Ball play for UCLA in a more Traditional setting.

I think Most experts believe Lonzo Ball will be Just fine & that his High School setting is More like the Pro’s than college is —– but Jayson Tatum looks like a Can’t Miss prospect but so does Ball.

The 2017 NBA Draft has Experts Already Drooling — I believe Simmons & Ingram would be the ONLY 2 players from the 2016 Draft who could make the Top 10 of the 2017 Lottery — it is That Deep!
