BasketballGuru24ParticipantLakers lose and this is the 2nd straight season they lose in the 2nd round. Mitch kupchak clearly didn’t look happy when the game ended.
Things i learned this season :
1) Mike brown is a horrible offensive coach. he can not give the lakers a decent play to run. They seem like they are playing off kobe every play.
2) lakers do not have shooters. Ron artest seemed like the best 3pt shooter, but hesitates on 3pt shot most of the time, steve blake was streaky and matt barnes posssibly played the worst season of his career.
3) Bynum seems to only be playing when he feels like it. When everything is going his way he is engaged, and well involved in the game. When he is not having a good offensive game he just defers from the defensive end and becomes a 7 foot pylon
Headed to the off season i see the roster about to change. I think either bynum or gasol will be gone by start of the season or be traded mid season if things aren’t going great. The PG position is still a major question mark. it would be a far fetched idea, but i would love for shannon brown and lamar odom to return as lakers.

bobbybParticipantAgreed,
Mike Brown is a bad coach. He line-ups and rotations i totally disagree with.
1) He works Bynum and Gasol to the bone. Gasol played 44 minutes today!! You can tell they are tired when they dont put their hands up and defense. Bynum is always guilty of that. He should have used Josh McRoberts in the rotation, he brings a lot more energy off the bench.
2) Blake should start and Sessions comes in as a 6th man. He is much better at creating his own offense than Blake. Blake would have gotten a lot more open looks in the starting rotation. They should have gone back to more of a triangle offense.
3) Barnes should have played more/ Yes, he had a bad season but only because his playing time was erratic. He is a decent outside shooter, good defender.

The Scare Crow RisesParticipantA million Dwight Howard rumors of course…

For_Never_EverParticipantAgreed on most of everything you and bobbyb have said. I have also been saying on this site that Mike Brown since Cleveland is a CLOWN of a coach. I really was shocked when the Lakers gave him a head coaching job.

omphalosParticipantKobe looks very frustrated out there, his effort was clearly lacking. Anyone think he might follow MJ in retiring early and possibly coming back later?

PulseGlazerParticipantKobe wants Kareem’s All-Time scoring crown. He’s going nowhere.

phila9012Participantkobe can be part of the problem too, he is a volume scorer and he isnt really a creater on offense, which LA doesnt have. They need a creater on offense and shooters to help kobe. Kobe can be fine some days, but he needs help, and he has to accept the help too.

JoeWolf1I think Gasol is going to be traded. They need to acquire another asset and they’re probably not going to move the younger Bynum. Gasol is their most valuable trading piece.
From a Free Agent standpoint
They could probably get Goran Dragic or Jeremy Lin for a pretty good price because both just recently broke out. I feel both would help make that team better now, are young enough to sign to a longer deal aimed at their future, and again…won’t break the bank

PulseGlazerParticipantSigh, they only have the mid-level which is getting neither Dragic or Lin. Lin can and will also be matched by NY and is capped a $5million. Hard to imagine anyone going nuts backloading his deal too hard after such a small sample – he could be crippling long-term. I get that the Lakers get great moves, but it feels like fans expect the rules to not apply to them and them just get anyone they want.

JoeWolf1I didn’t take the time to do the logistics of the deal, but It was just an idea. I think maybe having a PG that can score a bit would be a good thing for Kobe. Dragic has given a larger sample, he’s been waiting to break out since his days in Pheonix. Even when Nash missed a few games 2 years ago Dragic looked a lot like he did this season. You make a good point about Lin, but Dragic is the real deal.

PulseGlazerParticipantDragic is the real deal and the Lakers top out at $5 mill a year. Do you really think a team with space wouldn’t offer more given how many need 1s?
0 - Posted on: Tue, 05/22/2012 - 5:38am #672497

JoeWolf1The new amnesty rule gives them a little more wiggle room when trying to find cap space. They could also use the draft to free up space. Often a team will trade a draft pick and an end of the bench player (mainly to free cap space) to a team for another draft pick. It’s not impossible, I think the Lakers will do something crafty to make their team better. Maybe not with Dragic, but they’re not a contender and they want to be and they know the mid-level exception isn’t going to get them there.

Raef LaFrentzParticipantShould have kept Adam Morrison…

The Scare Crow RisesParticipantIsn’t he a free agent this year, or does he become a free Agent next summer??? I think Pau should join Marc in Memphis, I’d like to see a Pau and Picks for Zac Randolph trade…that or Pau could just sign with Memphis when he’s a Free Agent…

fliptonnParticipantsessions was a huge let down if you ask me. should have just kept fisher who could at least slow down westbrook a little and hit an open jumper.

surveParticipant"Things i learned this season :

I am not trying to mock you but if you go back on this board, I think most of us knew that before Brown was hired, which is why it was a shock that he got the job over Adelman and Shaw. While I wont go as far as saying Brown is bad, you are certainly within limits to say so if you do feel. The one thing that should not have been a surprise to anyone is Brown’s offensive tutelege. You say he played off Kobe every play…..well, he did the same thing with Lebron didnt he?
The question is, what do they do with him now? Do they fire him? I dont know if they will do that immediately.
As far as player personnel, they need some moves of major proportions, none of this minor stuff. I dont know where to begin, but they need a lot more than Dragic or Lin.

apb540ParticipantWhat, Ramon Sessions wasn’t the answer? Lol, Lakers fans you better pray some team has a hard on for Pau Gasol.

The Scare Crow RisesParticipantThey should start dumping contracts because this Team isn’t going to win a Title in Kobe’s last few seasons built the way they are now…Maybe Nash signs there and They can make a run but I think they should look to blow it up this summer
Gasol has got to be traded, his confidence was crushed by the failed Cp3 trade and pressure from Kobe to step up
Bynum may have to be traded as well, he has shown 0 maturity and he’s not going to resign there when his contract is due unless Kobe retires and he assume control of LA(scary right), he is the best trade chip on the team and he’s played his way out of The City of Angels by allowing Perk and Ibaka shut him down in round 2…he may be the future in lil Buss’s eyes but he’s not right upstairs if you know what I mean, they could get a nice return for Bynum IMO, not Howard though please LOL…
Artest/Metta World Peace must be Amnestied, the only coach I think may want him is Rich Adelman in Sota, at this point in his career Ron has become more trouble than he’s worth, if Iverson couldn’t find a spot after a while, why should Ron continue too???although i would like to see him toughen up The Timberwolves young guns in his final season, it could help them out greatly if Ron/Rick can make it work for 82 games…
Barnes has to go, Blake may have to go too, The rookies should be given one last look before training camp, if they aren’t impressive by then , cut them before the start of the season…
Jordan Hill is a keeper, he should be a rotational big for a long time, if they keep Bynum he’ll play well off Drew by hustling and playing defense
Session is a keeper as a 6th man/spot starter, they have to resign him and Hill for cheap, they are playing in LA, they’ll be awarded other luxaries playing there
Josh McRoberts should not be brought back unless they can’t get another big Via Draft/FA or Trade, he played well in spot minutes but they need to take another look else where IMO…
That really only leaves Kobe/Bynum(unless you can get a great trade)Sessions/Hill and maybe Ebanks and the 2011 rookies to fill the 12 man roster, they’ll have to get very creative with their cap numbers…Gasol for a Lottery pick(Houston) could be a huge cap saving and they add a young player to the Mix…Cutting Artest helps out too, that’s almost a 20 million dollar cap saving between 2 players being let go…With The Rockets pick the Lakers could draft Arnett Moultrie/Terrence Jones/Kendall Marshall or Insert Dark Horse Pick Here_______

PulseGlazerParticipantCheck the cap. They’re so far over that unless they amnesty Pau, they aren’t getting a damn thing back of value… and obviously Pau has far more trade value than that. If the Lakers want to improve, trading is the way to do so.
