armchairgmParticipantSo what prospects are you pretty comfortable making NBA comparisons (game resembles not that they will be as good) for in this draft class. So far there are 6 guys I am pretty comfortable with. I will end up making a comparison for every prospect in the draft as I start compiling my big board and mock draft as we get closer to lottery and draft, but need to watch more or read up more on the rest of the guys.
Cade Cunningham- Ben Simmons
Evan Mobley- Chris Bosh (If you look I posted about him and made this comparison/Lamarcus Aldridge one after I spent a month with him in China with a USA team back in summer of 2017 and told you guys to watch out for him he was a future stud going into his sophomore year in high school before he was nationally ranked.)
Jalen Suggs- Chauncey Billups
Scottie Barnes- Draymond Green
Ayo Dosunmu- Jrue Holiday2+ - Posted on: Sun, 03/21/2021 - 11:53pm #1247849

NorrinRaddParticipantHere are a few
Cade Cunningham – young point version of Grant Hill
Evan Mobley – Myles Turner but taller
Jonathan Kuminga – Shaun Marion
Jalen Green – a mix of Zach LaVine and Victor Oladipo.
Jalen Suggs – Top shape Baron Davis with better consistent shooting and more heart.
Scottie Barnes – Young version of Lamar Odom before he turned into a knucklehead.
Franz Wagner – Andrei Kirilenko/Luol Deng blend.
Isaiah Jackson – ambidextrous version of John Henson
Luka Garza – strange cross between Tyler Hansborough/Ryan Anderson
Corey Kispert – Wallly Szczerbiak1+- Posted on: Tue, 03/23/2021 - 9:23pm #1247884

OhCanada-ParticipantMore heart than Baron Davis? What does that even mean?

armchairgmParticipantTo me that means he thinks Baron Davis was lazy and just coasted.

NorrinRaddParticipantDon’t know if you remember this, but there was a couple years where Baron came to camp out of shape. I liked Baron as a player since he battled Kenny Brunner in HS at Santa Monica and when him and Mashburn actually got to team up in the NBA they bested the best version of McGrady. I liked him that year on the Warriors when they upset the Mavericks in the playoffs back when too. But yes, there were actually times where he was getting called out for being out of shape. At one point he was listed somewhere around 260lbs. I’m sure injuries had to do with it, but that’s still no excuse for a PG in the league. When Baron was on he was an All-Star which is how most of us remember his game. Not the part of him that “coasted”.
Anyways, what’s that supposed to mean…? I was comparing Jalen Suggs to in shape prime Baron, but with a more consistent jump shot. He is around as athletic with a game similar to Baron imo.0

BothTeamsPlayedHard-ParticipantJonathan Kuminga- Josh Smith. Similar bodies, athleticism, and lack of polish and shot coming out. As long as Smith was an elite athlete, he was good. He just never really had a shot or improved awareness, which kept him from really hitting his peak.
Jalen Green- Anthony Edwards. It feels like the same good and bad. Neither can really shoot and both make some really questionable decisions, but both are great athletes with potential. Early on, both are guys whose highlights can mask their flaws in the eyes of fans. This is also a warning in case Minnesota keeps its pick, because four straight 1st round picks of Okogie, Culver, Edwards, and Green might be the final straw in Minnesota having any reason to keep its NBA team.
Filip Petrusev- Nik Vucevic. I think he is probably the prospect where the gap is the largest in what I see and cw. I was in on him last year while at Gonzaga, but had to largely project his skillset in a pro style. He has now showed it. While the Adriatic League is not the most moneyed league around, he is showing he is too good for it. He is now up to 42 percent from three while taking more than 2.5 per game. I’m not one who typically is loose with comparisons, but I think he is the next Nikola Vucevic. If I think that, then how can he not be a lottery pick?
Keon Johnson- Ayo Dosunmu. The gap in where Dosunmu and Keon Johnson is actually funny, because Johnson is kind of having the same season Dosunmu had as a freshman. They are about the same size (though Johnson always looks smaller than other guys listed at 6’5″), both very good athletes, and play hard on both ends. If a team drafts Johnson, they are hoping he develops the same way Dosunmu has. I don’t think there is a difference in upside or potential, just that Dosunmu is further along and a safer bet because you have already seen the important step of year-over-year improvement.
With the three top guys in college (Cade, Mobley, and Suggs), it is interesting that analysts haven’t really driven home the “coaches kid” with them, but it really shows with them in the true sense even though Cade was coached by his older brother not father. Still, they play with a more advanced feel, communicate and lead vocally, and come off as being in control during games. Even for no doubt one-and-dones, this is not all that normal. Then again, none of those three are the overwhelming athletes or unique physical beings. Mobley is tall, but very lean and not a pogo stick. Cade is listed at 6’8″ but spent the year eye to eye with guys listed at 6’5″. They play like Luka, Pau, and Rubio who already had multiple years of pro ball under their belt by their draft year. It makes it tough to come up with a comparison.

NorrinRaddParticipantI really like the Petrusev/Vucevic comparison.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantCade- luka doncic. I can see the hill comparison too but Cade is a much better perimeter shooter than hill was.
Kuminga- gerald Wallace
Green- Zach lavine/
Garza- Caleb Swanigan
Wagner- Deni avdjia
Suggs- Stephon Marbury?2+ - Posted on: Mon, 03/22/2021 - 8:45am #1247865
sniperParticipantI feel comfortable comparing this guy from Abilene Christian to a combination between Bill Walton and Adam Morrison.
Or a redheaded Larry Bird.https://acusports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/jameson-richardson/8393

ZouldiersParticipantCade- Grant Hill
Mobley- Bam Adebayo
Jalen Green- Zach Lavine
Luka Garza- Enes Kanter
Ayo Dosunmu- Jrue Holiday
Jeremiah Robinson-Earl- Tyler Hansbrough
Jalen Johnson- Lamar Odom3+ - Posted on: Tue, 03/23/2021 - 9:26am #1247881

HeroescantdieParticipantCade – Grant Hill / Taller Brandon Roy – to me he is a cross between hill and roy, because he is an all around player, and hill jumpshot wasn’t as polish as cade so i put in broy. Cade is not that kind of a great athlete as ghill but an above average athlete like roy with basketball iq of a veteran player and clutch gene. He could play the point and take over games and shoot the 3 like roy, i put in ghill beacuse of cade’s measurables, but ghill was a different athlete than cade and ghill was dunking on people. Roy was a stud in his prime years, but Roy was more of a slow paced player due to portland’s system that time, cade can play fast and slow like ghill.
Mobley – right handed and 7 foot Bosh with better defense – He is similar to bosh, in terms of all around skill set, he can shoot the perimeter shot and bang inside, shoot the hook, attack closeouts and attack straight line drives, he can also handle it a little bit, but the main knock of him is his strength much like bosh coming out, but imo mobley is a better defender than bosh coming out and he was a stud in toronto, people forget he was a franchise altering player before miami. Mobley is also as skilled as bosh, I wouldn’t compare him to turner since turner only shoot 3 and defend.
Green – Zach Lavine chicago version but a little bit thinner – green is an absolute stud, he has a thin body and that is the only weakness i can think of right now, he has a killer instinct and you can see how he approach the game with intensity, he attacks the rim ferociously and I hold my breath always praying for him not to be injured. he has all the moves in isolation and can humiliate defenders with his stepbacks and dunks, his iq will improve i think and he showed the outside shoot and off the dribble moves that can be compared to a scorer like lavine and athletecism like lavine. he can attack and shoot and attack closeouts, he is a terrific athlete.
Suggs – better athlete and passing jrue holiday or better passing billups, i would not compare him to jkidd, since jkidd is a pure point guard, suggs is a combo guard who can takeover games and can pass it really, he is a qb in highschool and even he was offered a d1 scholarship by a great cfb program and i won’t mention what college. He has all the intangibles, heart of a lion, and he dives for looseballs and make winning plays, he can defend really and can take over games when needed. great locker room guy, teammates love him, great leader and the heart and soul of gonzaga team in the locker room
Kuminga – 6’8 more athletic Pascal Siakam with more wiggle – I mention better upside since siakam comes out old when he entere the draft, but im comparing him to the siakam of now who is a mismatch problem and he is a better athlete than siakam, he can also defend like siakam and his footwork really reminds me siakam in the post who can spin of angles, can step back and shoot and blow by defender, he can also be a handful in the post since he has a great footwork like siakam who can beat his man off the post with up and under, hook shots and shots with opposite foot. but he is much more better dribbler and playmaker than siakam.
Barnes – athletic draymond – he is a glue guy a superstar role player, i want to compare him to pippen wihtout the jumpshot since he can play the point and is athletic and lanky as pippen but wihtout the outside shot, he can defend 1-5 positions and make winning plays much like draymond but draymond is a little bit heavier as we all know, barnes has all the draymonds intagnibles but more athletic, but his jumpshot is a problem, he cannot score 1 on 1 and can only playmake for teammates as he average good assists number and much like darymond he has iq on the defensive end that is hard to teach. has the potential to win all defensive team
Bouknight – athletic 6’5 caris levert – like levert, bouknight thrives on midrange and iso plays with stepbacks, pullups, and can create seperation easily. his 3pt shoot inst that good but he can improve it. he is a great scorer and can take over games. he is more athletic than caris, he can improve his passing as he only look to score often.
Johnson – 6,9 ben simmons with less a little bit of vision and passing. Johnson is a playmaker but his outside shooting is worrisome, he has a hitch on his shot and you can see him rely on his orthodox scroing off tear drops, running hooks and cuts much like simmons, he shoots the 3 yes, but it is an ugly sight if you know what i mean. he is an terrific athlete much like simmons but he is a nocth below simmons passing and vision but he is a better shooter coming out, if he can improve his jump shot he can be a mismatch problem, he has a little bit of odom in him wiht better jumpshot than odom.
Robinson earl – dante cunningham / , idk, but he really remind me of dante cunningham who’s jumpshot is falwless
