So the Knicks are imploding…again. Rose didnt show up to tonights game for unknown reasons. Half the team looks disinterested or like they have an attitude problem. Melo is getting negative headlines right left and center and got ejected from tonights game. This just doesnt seem like it will work.

The Knicks have some bright spots here. Porzingis looks like he could be amongst the leagues most dominant two way players but the Knicks really have to nurture that. Too many times I see Kristaps shoot off balanced jumpers or ignore his teammates and run his own iso play. Sound like Melo? For them to get the most out of this incredibly rare talent they should rebuild around Kristaps. He seems to be a perfect match for Hornacek. Baker and Oquinn are great finds and decent role players to build around along with Noah, Lee, Kusminskas, Hernangomez and Thomas. They have a team here without the premadonna players.

This years draft is deep! A top 7 pick could potentially give you a franchise changing talent and it seems as though Fultz, Ball, Smith,Fox and Nkilita (still cant spell his name thats worse then Anetekoumpo?) will all be very good PGs while Tatum and Jackson will be good players as well. Whether they blow it up or keep limping through 82 games it is getting more and more clear that this team will not be making the playoffs. Do you risk pairing a top tier talent with Porzingis and even if you get that talent do you want to have Melo, Rose egos around that? I say trade him for whatever you can get and rebuild.

With that being said who would want him and what could they acquire? Would the Celtics be in the mix? How about the Macs? Trailblazers, Wizards, Kings? What is he worth? Do you see him being moved?

you take the Brooklyn picks and scream for joy! You’re not winning with melo period! The future us with porzingus, and melo is only hindering that! A rebuild is what they need, they need to build a team around porzingus. This also allows your team to grow together.  Shoot even if you can only get this year’s take it! You have more money on the books, you get young and build a real winning team!

Melo is probably not worth any single of the BKN picks, let alone both right now. He is old and with injury history and losing track record. If Boston traded for him you would probably get a weird package of youngs, possibly including Jaylen Brown at best.

The money being a concern with Melo’s contract it’s possible you need to satisfy a third team also so it seems to me like an unsolvable problem.

Honestly right now I don’t think any team think they will become contenders by adding Melo to their core. He is staying in NY because his value over other SFs is too marginal and he is highly paid and aging fast.

Honestly if I was NY front office I would trade Melo for a 5-10 pick in the upcoming draft in a heartbeat if I could get such an offer from a team like the Nuggets or Magic. You could get two decent young (with own pick) to start fresh with Porzingis, and get rid of unnecessary salary to be able to invest soon.

he’ll get traded though, melo has to lift his no trade clause which he won’t because he loves New York

Honestly, I’m trying to think about a team that would have a legitimate interest in trading for melo right now and I’m kind of drawing a blank. Given the length of his contract, his age, what teams would have to give up to get him, and his no-trade clause, I’m not sure if he is even really tradeable at this point. Celtics are about the only situation I could maybe see working, but I think they have their sights set on other players over melo on the market.

How do you see it working with the Celtics exactly?

Guy is earning 24+M$, you would have to tear up your team to acquire him and pretty much blank any chance to land any good free agent.

Even if you get him at about a fair price (imo: Jaylen Brown and the Knicks are the ones to make sacrifices to make the money work for you like giving you Hernangomez for tyler Zeller etc…), I am not sure it’s a good thing for the Celtics because he is an old guy that has almost always disappointed in the playoffs even in his prime. I don’t think Boston would be enough better with Melo to compete with Cleveland at all, and they would be worse as early as next season given his age and the development curve of the assets you are giving for him, plus the negative impact an aging star could have on the younger guys.

You are poisonning your roster at this point.Carmelo would only be good for a contender/outsider if he is waived and his salary becomes low right now. Guy simply does not deserve the lion’s share of the cap.

Just a hypothetical. Celtics are the only team with a legitimate reason for adding Melo that would have the assets to pull off a deal. They have been trying to acquire a superstar for awhile now to put them over the top and maybe they bite if they think Melo is the best player they can get. However, I don’t see it happening. Ainge is smarter than that.

I can’t really think of any other team that Melo might agree to be traded to where it would make any sense to acquire him. Knicks are probably just going to be stuck with him for the duration of his contract.

Every team has the assets to acquire Melo. He is not worth much. He is a superstar by name but no longer by level and production.

Melo back to the Nuggets is at least as plausible to me. A team that could be ready to welcome back their guy and could give a way better package than Boston (because Boston is neither giving any of their starters neither any of their BKN picks anyway) with the veteran he would replace (Gallinari or Chandler) and a young promising guy (Garry Harris or Jamal Murray possibly, or maybe their first rounder with protection). That’s as good as any offer you could reasonably expect for Melo.

The Knicks are probably never going to trade him anyway because too many fans would be angry for what they get in return. They all think he is still a legit superstar and should command top 5 pick+ at the very least.

Melo has a no-trade clause in his contract. I couldn’t see him waiving it in order to go back to Denver, particularly when they are in a rebuilding state. Not sure why Denver would be interested in bringing him back either to be honest with you.

OKC is reportedly looking for another wing scorer to pair with Westbrook, and they will do anything possible to keep him happy. They have expressed interest in Rudy gay (a much cheaper option) but maybe they could be persuaded to go after melo if it becomes clear he is available. New York would probably have to take back enes kanter and his contract along with some combination of picks/young players (Payne/sabonis?)

Again this is just a hypothetical scenario. Realistically, I’m not expecting melo to go anywhere, at least for another year or 2.

It’s about time people are seeing this… They should have traded him 3 years ago when his value was higher, but now they should take what they can get.

Melo turns 33 this year and whilst still playing to a very good level isn’t quite the player he was a few years back and he is unlikely to regain that spark due to the miles he has on the clock. Plus there is the issue of him being a bit of a ball hog so a team who would happily splash out big money for the older and less productive D-Wade for example would not probably do so on Melo.

His contract has 2 years after this season and last one is a player option, add in his no trade clause plus him liking it in NY, I don’t really see any teams coming calling. It will be interesting to see if Melo does opt in next summer or if he looks to get on a legit contender as the Knicks may not be in the mix then and his title window could be closing. I could see him opting in personally as he likes being a highly paid player, being the main man on his team and if he moved he would have to accept a lesser role.

But I could also see him come 2018 looking to get on a contender on his own terms with something to offer, not waiting another year and then trying to jump onto a contender. Also would a player like Melo be prepared to possibly be a bench guy even on a contender when he was 35/36. I’d figure with his ego, he’d like to get onto a team and get a good spot whilst he still had something to offer.

Melo could be a great 6th man in a few years time if he wanted to be, the right coach could set up the 2nd unit around him and using him in short bursts.

I’d like Melo to have the chance to get to the finals in his career given that he has been such a prolific scorer over the years, numerous All Star appearances, All NBA Teams, NCAA Champion, likely HOF guy etc.

One concern is that after 10 successive years on a play off team, Melo hasn’t been in the play offs since 2013 and this year isn’t looking great for the Knicks as things stand.

Melo’s trade value is extremely low due to:

    1. the no-trade clause

    2. age/contract

Money wise, anyone that acquires him would have to move a lot of money back to New York/a 3rd team in the process to make room for him, which leaves you with two possibilities:

    1. gutting your team, which nobody will do for Melo at this point

    2. moving a bad contract, which I’m sure teams would do, but the Knicks would not accept.

Correct, his trade value is virtually nil. As he has the no trade clause, in the unlikely event he waives it, everyone knows New York are moving him and they will get offered no more than expiring contracts. They really can’t manage a roster, they try and band aid every problem. The only thing the have going for them is the unicorn, so if they stay true to form they’ll probably trade him instead ..!

I agree with many of the posters in that if they were going to trade Melo, it should have been years ago, right after they got handled by the Pacers in the 2nd round. That series proved that Melo wasn’t even close to the impact player that Paul George was, and at that time it was evident that he just didn’t play a style of basketball that was conducive to winning. The team also seriously imploded the next year, as it had Chandler, Amare, KMart, Prigioni, and J.Kidd.

The only players on that team under 30 were Melo, Smith, Felton, and Shumpert…That team needed to rebuild, bot try and reload. They could have gotten a nice haul for Melo that offseason, because imo that was the first, and probably only year that Melo "got it." He hustled, rebounded, played the best D of his career, and started to actually act like a leader. That was short lived though.

Now? They would be lucky to even get a 1st round pick for Melo in my honest opinion. With his huge contract, poor attitude, and declining game, its evident to me that if Melo ever wants to win a ring its going to be off the bench as a go to scorer for the second unit. He can play all the hero ball he wants then. I just don’t see many teams, especially with the influx of scoring guards in the new nba, matching saleries, and throwing 1/4 of their team in a deal to get a player who is clearly not even in the first 2 tiers of stars in this league.

I also think its worth mentioning that what team would actually need Melo? The Grizz could use him I guess, but I don’t see the Knicks taking on Parsons. The Celtics maybe, but again, do the Knicks really want Amir Johnson, Tyler Zeller, and Crowder? (Notice how I didn’t add the BRK picks? No way in **** is melo worth a high lottery pick in the new cap era) The Kings would be interesting, but really…do you trust a team led by Boogie and Melo? Because I don’t. No, he Knicks are stuck with Melo until they trade him in a salery dump, or he does whats best for him and goes to the bench for a contender, or be fine taking the back seat to players better than he is/was.

Personally I would like to see Melo on the Rockets, Jazz, or Pelicans…

I think a trade of Heild, Asik, and Tyreke would be a good trade for both teams

Asik gives Kristaps time to grow into his body and is a decent stop gap at C. Heild obviously is what gets this trade done as hes been very promising, and Tyreke would thrive in the triangle.

Davis-Melo-Jrue is a nice trio, and adding a scorer like Melo next to Davis would open up his game even more, and the Pelicans would actually have something interesting on the offensive end
