usfballerParticipantKnowing the Bulls (or more specifically their owners the Reinsdorf family), I’m doubtful they will actually fire a coach who they still owe $15 mill. But if they did, who should they target as the next coach (let’s also assume Pax and Gar are gone cuz they’d just screw the search for a new coach up anyway)? My early shortlist:
Monty Williams- Should still be the coach in NO if you ask me. They should’ve fired Demps. Under Monty, the Hornets/Pelicans were one of the few teams that played hard EVERY night. Comes from the Spurs family tree (always a plus) but has been part of the Team USA staff as well.
Bill Self- Doubtful the Bulls go with another college guy with no NBA experience, but hear me out on this one. I have a theory/belief that the best type of coach for Jimmy Butler is one who will constantly ride Jimmy’s ass and keep him in line (ala Thibs and Buzz Williams). Hoiberg is the complete opposite of what he needs, hence the struggles between Jimmy and the staff the last two years. Bill Self seems to prefer coaching those types and has had some of his greatest success with those types (Chalmers, Sherron Collins, Julian Wright or anyone else from Chicago he’s had). Self has also rumored to have been intrigued by the NBA and tired of college life in general. Maybe not a perfect fit, but worth a look.
Also, Larry Brown, Brian Shaw and Kevin McHale to round out a sad top 5.

bballjunkie09ParticipantWhat about Mark Jackson or Jeff Van Gundy? So often these guys get lost in the conversation because they are doing the play-by-plays. With the exception of Larry Brown who is a legendary coach in his own atmosphere, I believe Jackson and Van Gundy are both as good if not better candidates than what is out there. I have this feeling they are itching to get back into coaching and I don’t know why they seem to be always overlooked.

usfballerParticipantAfter the ruckus Jeff Van Gundy kicked up about the Bulls front office regarding their treatment of Thibs, I believe that is one bridge that has been sufficiently burned down.
Mark Jackson’s reputation as having made a play for more front office power probably won’t fly with the Reinsdorfs either. Those are the main reasons I left them off.

HitsterParticipantLarry Brown is 76 years old now and gave up his college job last year, no way he’d return to an NBA bench at that age, he might do a consultant role.
Kevin McHale did a good job at Houston so could be in the running for any future NBA vacancy.
JVG hasn’t coached for a decade and whilst still only in his mid 50’s can he return from the booth to a bench and really understand how the modern game works right away. In time he would find his feet but would he want to risk it and give up a lucrative broadcasting position. Also he may well want full control over team affairs and would command a hefty salary which might put the Bulls off before you consider any compensation ESPN may want.
Mark Jackson like JVG has a nice job at ESPN but gave up a braodcasting role to go to GSW and may well feel he has unfinished business in the NBA.
One idea that occured to me is that JVG and Mark Jackson work together at ESPN, if Chicago did clear out the front office and head coach, could the two of them market themselves as a "Dream Team" maybe have JVG as Team President/Senior VP and GM and Mark as Head Coach with a VP role too. Mark has coached much more recently than Jeff so it would be logical he is the Head Coach whilst Jeff with many more years in a none playing role than Mark and out of the game longer might be better to run the FO.
Bill Self has doubtless had many NBA offers over the years and would likely want full control of team affairs if he ever jumped to the NBA. Bill is mid 50’s now, so if he is ever going to make the jump he’ll have to do it fairly soon. With Chicago being the windy city, would he be prepared to risk his rumoured hairpiece there I wonder.

OhCanada-ParticipantI dont any other experienced coach joining the Paxon and the Reindorf family let alone an NCAA coach. Seem luke control freaks and I question thier ability to manage the team. Team would still be above 500 if Thibs was there.
I would lile to see Hoiberg get another job. His offense at Iowa State wad marvelous and he never really got a fair job being handed an injury riddled Chicago team that eventually evolved into a premadonna star driven team with pieces that dont fit in todays NBA and really dont fit his style of play.

wonzi_bellsParticipantThe Bulls are in a rudderless position right now, even with a top 10 player in Butler. So if Hoiberg is gone, there next coach is probably going to be a young up-coming coach who isn’t established at in level of the game or maybe a veteran mid-tier established coach just look for a check.

Andv1 WaitingParticipantTo be fair I would fire Gar/pax and Hoiberg-They have failed miserably at everything for far to long..
Clean house and get as many young and hungry player(example-like what Dion waiters has done for the heat)+ as many picks as possible.
Butler will get you the picks(you make sure its Ball and Best available SF out of Taytum or Jackson) and maybe a young player and Rondo/Wade may get you the young hungry player off a team in need of some vets to suit their timeline..
Coach wise though Iwould wait and see who the best available Player development coach is at the end of the season and bring them all in for an interview..Then hire them on a 3 year deal and extend if the player development and record is progressing every year..
As the staying in the middle is painful as the bulls were meant to have taken that leap Thibs apparently couldn’t get done yet have regressed even worse under Hoiberg…So Clean house and rebuild is the smartest move Reinsdorf could make…

HitsterParticipantIt would be a big move for Jerry Reinsdorf to remove John Paxson who has been part of his franchise for 25 years as a player and front office person. Gar Forman has been there nearly 20 years too and is no doubt close to John and Jerry. Clearing out Gar and John plus the Head Coach would cost Reinsdorf a load of money, add on the cost of hiring replacements and you are probably talking between $30 and $50 million.
The Bulls are still a profitable team so would Jerry want to really rock the boat that much I wonder.
