If lebron would have played in the nfl he would been a WR. He would be the best WR ever because he is to strong for any CB and he might be faster then them to. He is 6’8 265 and CB are 6’0 215 they cant stop him He would have 15 td 2000 yd 105 catchs a year might even be better then that

A little quick to call a guy who has never played a down in the NFL or college ball for that matter, the Best WR ever.  Have you ever heard of Jerry Rice?  Route running is very important as well and LeBron’s legs would get destroyed being that tall of a skill player in the NFL.  Have you heard of Too Tall Jones?  I think he would be great as a WR dont get me wrong, but to proclaim him as being the best is a bit over the top IMO.

Not to mention this topic has come up atleast 5 times on this site.

He is NOT faster than a cornerback.. You obviously have not watched an NFL game before.. I mean, James had problems bringing the ball up with RONDO guarding him because he was nowhere near as quick as him.

He would be a tight end, not a WR.

Exactly, as athletic as LBJ is, his size prevents him from making the same cuts guys like DeSean Jackson, Steve Smith, Andre Johnson make.  TE makes much more sense, especially if he could block.

Tight end would be the best position for him and he would be excellent at it, probably an All-Star, and possibly one of the best, if not the best, ever. We wouldn’t really know until we saw how good he was at catching. Blocking is also important but his long arms would allow him to engage first with pass rushers. So I think we are pretty safe there. I also think it is safe to think that he would carry another 30 pounds if he were football player instead of a basketball player. So he would be just massive for his position and he would still have speed and hops.

However, tight ends really isn’t a very important a position on a football team (getting much more so under current schemes admittedly), so I think L J made the right decision playing basketball. 😉

No doubt he made the better decision.  The NFL is in lockout, the risk for conisderable injury is greater in the NFL, and he currently is dominant in the NBA.  Not to mention the marketability of NBA players is considerably greater than NFL players IMO.

I believe Lebron wouldn’t want any part of some of the hits that he would take in the NFL.  I know he played in HS, but i just don’t think he has it in him to take those sorts of hits.  Athletically, no question, but he doesn’t have the heart, mental, or physical toughness.

LeBron would be a hybrid TE like Vernon Davis or Jermichael Finley. Guys who pose matchup problems for linebackers (too fast, athletic), safeties (too big and strong) and corners (can’t guard TE’s because they need to be covering the outside unless you have that type of secondary depth). I think he would’ve been pretty good, but the NBA was the right choice.

Theres enough drama queens in the nfl they don’t need another, even though I think he be a pretty good player

The Jaguars had a guy a couple of years back, Matt Jones, who was 6’6" and had 4.37 speed and a 39 1/2 inch vertical.  He used to be a QB at Arkansas but they converted him to WR because of his athleticism.  He was a total bust, which isn’t to say that Lebron would be as well, but sheer athleticism doesn’t make a great wide receiver.

Matt Jones is a great example. Superb athlete that didn’t work out at the highest level. I’m actually not a huge fan of the big WR so I think it is silly to think that LJ would have been a WR. I think the ability to change direction is more important than huge top end speed. And the extra few inches of reach (and in the case of Matt Jones, a huge receiving box when you couple is height with his hops) is not nearly as important as the ability to lose your man on a juke or a hard cut. I will take little Steve Smith cutting hard and creating five feet of separation than Plaxico Burress having a little extra reach which the quarterback has to hit perfectly because the corner back is right on him. Give me a whole bunch of scrappy 5′ 8" WR and I will save money because they are cheaper and still win ball games.

I never really saw LeBron as a Gridiron player but the thought is interesting, can anyone else suggest any other NBA players who they think would be good American Football players. Someone like Dejuan Blair sprang to mind as he isn’t as tall as other NBA players and is fairly solid built but where he’d play I don’t know.

There were guys who played both MLB and NFL like Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders spring to mind although Deion was a far better American Football player than Baseball player and went into their HOF recently I believe. Bo was drafted number one in an NFL draft but turned it down and made MLB All Star games before his hip injury which curtailed his career.

Also loads of sprint based athletes used to go to the NFL when athletics was much more amateur based over the years.

LeBron probably could play tight end, but even then I have no reason to believe he is tough enough to play tight end at a NFL level. Unlike basketball, the guys that he will be playing with him are just as big as him (though not as tall) and just as, if not stronger than him.

You are Completely wrong my man. Rondo gave him no problem whatsoever in that game, at all! And if he did have "trouble" handling he ball with Rondo on him that was because he has huge arms and is low to he ground for a 6-8 guy this guy is a plain on ball pest and he was reaching, smacking and bullying on the ball. And if Rondo was so much quicker than James as you claim then how does James continually chase down Rondo from way behind him…if he wa that quick that would be an easy dunk/layup

Believe it or not, Lebron would be too slow at WR. That’s how fast WRs in the NFL are.

He would be a tight end actually alot of the greatest tight ends in the nfl were basketball players: Antonio Gates, Tony Gonzalez and many others
