Afactor4ParticipantMan I’m sick of the D-Wade’s, and the KD’s, and CP3’s of todays NBA nickname world. Super un-original and don’t really mean much. What’s frustrating is a guy like Garnett goes from being the Big Ticket to being KG. What happened to those cool nicknames from back in the day?
My personal favorites:
The Plastic Man (Stacey Augman), The Mailman (Karl Malone), Stevie Franchise (Steve Francis), The Answer (Allen Iverson), and The Reignman (Shawn Kemp).

Steph & Klay- The Splash Brothers
Glen Davis- Big Baby
Chris Anderson- Birdman
Kenneth Faried- The Manimal
Bradley Beal- The Real Deal (Might not be on right now, but is sure to be fire later on. Sick nickname.)

220ParticipantI gave you a +1, but Vince Carter hasn’t been called Air Canada for about 10 years after being dealt from Toronto. I don’t know if anyone even calls him Vinsanity or Half Man Half Amazing anymore, but either of those would be more likely be his current nickname than Air Canada.

GrandmamaParticipantSomewhere along the line people began to think that players initials combined with their number was a nickname. It works with Chris Paul and Kirilenko, but beyond those two it’s just a lazy, cliche attempt at a nickname.
There are some decent ones as Taylor pointed out.

Lotto StudParticipantI created a thread on this topic a few months ago. As I chime in, I appreciate ’90s ball more and more by the day. Originality was at its best! Every star player had their own signature shoe. The NBA is a joke to me, everything is dramatized now and geared toward building a brand that will never go anywhere. The day that the logo is swapped, that’s when the people should worry. We cannot have a decent league, if they are always looking to change everything that shouldn’t be changed year in and out.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantI think C Webb was the first guy I remember to cross over to the new weak nicknames.
One of the local Cleveland Plain Dealer writers was calling Anthony Bennett the "Fat Mamba". I was hoping he would embrace it.
I hope they come back in style.
Hopefully posters on the thread just make up some nicknames.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantPGU for the PHX backcourt. Point Guard University
Blake the Fake (flopper) or the Flake
These are so much harder than just doing first intial and last name. Thats probably why they fell off.
Why don’t they put up a players stat lines at the free throw line on TV anymore? That would be a great way to introduce the public at large to metrics in a subtle way. Maybe start with traditional stats and throw in efg and others little by little.

ChoppyParticipantDougie McBuckets is a cool nickname for the next gen.
There are some out there. Greg ‘Moose’ Monroe is another. Can’t think of any more but I’m sure I have missed some.

Jr. ROXASParticipantMan, it sucks that the league’s primetime stars do not have their appropriate nicknames right now. It helps tremendously the marketability of the player, which translates to more publicity and hype to that certain player, which I think is always good.
If you are a budding star in the NBA and you inherit a nickname somewhere along your career, you know you are up there with the most talented and talked about players. Guys like K-Love, Lillard or John Wall need one right now.

HitsterParticipantLance Stephenson – Born Ready is fairly original.
I do like Noel and Joel for Philly’s twin tower combo.
Great nicknames like The Human Highlight Reel are lacking in today’s game though.
