delfamParticipantBack when he was in Utah he was one of my favorite players, he and CP3 were both in discussion for the best PG in the league, and nobody else was close.
I haven’t paid attention to him much since he has been in Brooklyn, but it just seems like he has lost his swagger or something. I know he has been hurt, but where did DWill, second best PG in the league go?

Moon RiverParticipantShould have never gotten Jerry Sloan removed as coach in Utah.

SiggyParticipantHis body is breaking down and he appears to be a slow healer. On top of that his body does not respond well to being inactive. IOW, he puts on weight and has to work to get back in peak condition.
Also, Avery Johnson is a known PG killer who likes to micromanage everything so there were definitely chemistry issues with he and Deron.
Last yr he got off to a slow start due to playing through foot problems that required surgery. He was still the Deron of old after the All-Star break though putting up a line of 23/3/8 on 48/42/87 from the field.

Moon RiverParticipantLots of miles on him so inevitably his physical ability will decline. When the last time he has been with a consistent line up around him? It was probably in Utah. It is either a bunch of new players or a new coach every year, or both.

Sewok15ParticipantHe was always a good but not great athlete…now that he is just average in that department we are seeing a near mediocre point guard…especially having to deal with the young lighting quick athletes that are coming into the league at that position lately. He will pick it up as the year goes on but we will never see the greatness that he had in Utah again.

CodySLCParticipantSorry D-will, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. The Jazz definitely won that trade. They ended up with Derrick Favors, the 3rd pick which they turned into Enes Kanter, and used there and Golden States pick to get Trey Burke. A really good young core of players.

RObin PadillaParticipantSo I guess the discussion DWill vs CP3 is now over… There were a lot of people saying DWill was the better player because hes stronger and taller. case closed!

delfamParticipantHe was the better player IMO, but obviously now it isn’t even close.

bloodthis thing called DECLINE. Every player hits it sooner or later, but he declined too early,he will still proly aveirage aroune 16 and 7,8 but I said it before maybe he just isnt that good as he looked in Jerry Sloans system.I’m shure we can all forget about days of 20 10 D-Will,he’s going to be 30 soon.

thricethefunParticipantD-Will was the best point guard in the league for a couple seasons there. He even carried his team to the WCF something that Chris Paul has never done in his career.

MalcolmxParticipantDoes anyone think the nets will regret giving him that big deal?

r377ParticipantI remember in his first few seasons in the league he played virtually every game. This is when the d-will vs cp3 comparisons started. But since then I know he has had some ankle problems over the years. I am not sure what his ankles are like these days but yeh the wear and tear he is on the decline now.

TallmanNYCParticipantWhen healthy and not trying to do too much, he is still a good PG. The post All Star break last season proves that. DWill was scoring and assisting like a top ten player in the league.
This year his ankles have not yet been healthy.
But he is also starting to get a little old and he is slowing down a bit. He has always carried a good chunk of weight, so maitaining elite speed is quite hard. Now with those fragile ankles I don’t know if he even wants to be too physical on the court. But I’m not counting him out yet. He is and will be overpaid, but who cares? As long as he can get healthy, he will be a good PG and that is all the Nets need him to be.

machu46ParticipantThis. We’re literally a few months removed from him playing like one of the top 5 PGs in the NBA. He’s hurt right now. If he can get healthy again, I’m confident that he can at least get back to being a top 10 PG. He’s no longer in the discussion with CP3, but he’s still a very good player.

apb540ParticipantBilly King regret handing out a huge contract to a non-elite athlete who is on the back-end of his career?? That’s his goal!

surveParticipantI think he is just not in peak condition and its harder for him than it is others to get that way. if you remember when he was in college, he wasnt as lean. when he got to the league and got in peak condition, people were surprised at how athletic and quick he was. when he gets out of shape it takes a lot for him to get it back. thats the difference in him being a decent PG at times and an Elite one others.
