When I look at the nba and what it takes to win a championship, and then I break it down to a few factors:

    * A coach with immense knowledge/experience of the game…a strategic coach who knows how to get players to get out of their funk in a game. I believe you can’t win a championship with a coach who doesn’t challenge his best players.

    * Chemistry. If your players get along and can communicate to each other. Being able to give constructive criticism and to receive it, and then offering to help. Teammates need to be able to rely on each other on offense and defense. This is not a 1 on 1 game, this is a 5 on 5 game. Along with chemisty, players need to set their ego aside to improve chances of winning, whether it means to come off the bench or get a cut in minutes, do what you must to win. Being able to let go of your ego can allow more players to play, which adds the DEPTH to your team. Anyway, to finish up about chemistry, being able to communicate, co-exist, and rely on each other on the court can take a team a long way…memphis this year is solid proof.

    * Desire/heart. You could have all the desire in the world to win and the desire to improve, yet lose games. Therefore, desire is not the absolute most important factor, but is one of the main factors. Kobe bryant has the most desire in the game today, followed by Lebron. Don’t hate, watch the two play. I also look at durant as probably the 3rd most in desire level. Look at his game and how he has improved at his age. Followed by anthony, and so on.

    * And finally, Experience. You don’t need the oldest players in the league to win a championship, but if you have an experienced A+ player with experienced B to B+ players around you ( kobe + pau + bynum + odom + artest), or 07-08(garnett, pierce, allen – honorable mentions of rondo and perkins), or 06-07 (duncan, parker, ginobli), you will go very far, if not all the way. San antonio, Orlando, and boston are teams with a great amount of depth/experience and great players along with good chemistry. even if they’re healthy, will they be enough to challenge Lakers, who are the best in each of these categories?

First off, I hope you remember me, my old name was lemons4life. Then to your subject:

    Coach: Erik Spolestra
    Chemistry: Oklahoma City or Charlotte
    Desire: Kevin Durant
    Experience: Dallas

A hall of famer too. I think every championship team in the last 20 years or so since I’ve been watching pro basketball has had a HOF player with the exception of maybe the Detroit Pistons of 2004 (I think Chauncey will be, but not possibly not 1st ballot) MJ, Pippin, Hakeem, Shaq, Kobe, Duncan, Garnett, all of the past championship teams have had at least 1 HOF player if not 2 or 3.

Those factors are all nice, but talent is by far the most important. It’s easy to talk about how important a good coach is and heart and chemistry and desire and whatever else, while forgetting that it takes good players to win a championship. I’m also not sure how much chemistry the 2000-2002 Lakers had, but one might argue the Kobe-Shaq breakdown occurred mostly after the championships were won.

i like billups but i dont think hes a hall of famer. he has a title and is clutch but hwe hasnt had a hall of fame career. hes had a good career. hes a career 15ppg 6 ast guy. and hasnt made a bunch of allstar teams. look at other career hall of famers and compare there careers

Goes to another 2 All-Star games (would make 7 for his career) and wins another Championship then I think he will be in the Hall of Fame. He would probably have to raise his averages to about 17 and 7 as well.

i doubt he goes to 2 more even if he does im still not sure. the best way to determine it is to compare him to the other hof pg and see how he stacks up with them. to raise his average from 16 -17 for a career do you know how many points he would have to average?..and hes not young

Yes, I know how old Billups is, but you never gave an explanation of where you would consider him if he won a 2nd championship??

I thought he had more career points than this, but Chauncey Billups has 13,471 career points for a 15.3 per game average with 5.6 per career assists. 5 all-star games, he is ranked 50th on the all-time assist list but the ring and the Finals MVP bump him up a bit. That doesn’t look like a very good hall of fame resume on paper. I am a fan of Chauncey, but no way first ballot guy, he could sneak in like knicksfan said, if he made a couple more all-star games, and if Denver won a title in the next couple years with him as a main player. I’d have to say out right now.

i still wouldnt consider him a hall of famer if he won 2 because he wouldnt be the one leading them,. melo would..he would be the worst hall of fame pg ever if he went. and thats not a bad thinng but that shows how good the hall of fame players are

off the top of my head hof pg

    magic
    isiah
    stockton
    nate archbald

kevin johnson looks better for a hof then billups even though he has one less title and id ont think he will be in it either

    17ppg 9ast 3 allstar

    he has 1 all-nba 2nd team and 2 all-nba 3rd teams and 2 all-nba 2nd team defensive awards.

If he scores 1,500 points each year over the next two, he be pushing 18,000 career points, that would make his resume look better too

that proves my point..only 1 2nd team and 2 third and 2 all nba 2nd team defense out of a 11 year career. thats not hall of fame

theres around 7-10 pg in the hall in 60 years…i havent seen most of the older guys in it play before but the ones i have seen billups couldnt hold a candle too

    stockton
    zeke
    magic

do you think hes even near as good as those guys for a career?

yeah, I think he’s out, he is 9th on the all-time 3 pointers made list which looks good, but Dale Ellis is #2 and he has 19,000 career points. There are a ton of guys with equal credentials to Chauncey that are out, the only thing that would help his cause significantly is his Finals MVP and ring.

But look at Dennis Johnson who is up this year, he has made the final ballot a hand ful of times and in my opinion, has a better hall of fame resume than Billups. I initially thought Billups was better, but after laying it out on paper, he is out in my opinion.

yeah most people think he is at first thought untill they really think about it. older people dont even really have to think about it since they have seen billups and past great pg. thats another thing. he is good, very good infact but i cant say he is great or has had a great career

When detroit defeated the lakers in 04, it wasn’t because of tremendous talent.

They had a brilliant coach who knew what he was doing.

They (were) experienced players who played together as a team.

They relied on each other on both ends of the floor.

They were a team of depth.

They could communicate to each other and give and receive criticism.

It’s your opinion and I respect that. Although, I believe talent will form when all of these factors are met first. Lebron makes mo williams that much better, dwyane wade makes beasely and haslem so much better, kobe brought gasol to a superior level of play (even further than when he was a part of memphis).

Talent can be produced through a great coach, chemistry, depth, desire, and experience.

good point but i cant agree about lebron making mo that much better when mo was putting up the same numbers before he went to cleveland. gasol was putting up similar numbers as well the only defference with both is now they are on winning teams. the had already showed what they can do before hand but whn youre doing the same thing but on a winning team then people give you more praise like he hadnt already been doing that before hand. hell look at zach randolph. hes not doing much different now then what he’s a;ways done but the key factoer is that hes now doing it and winning so now hes a allstar…i bealive beasley would put up the same to better numbers on another team and the same with haslem

and in gasol’s case he has actually had better years in memphis putting up better numbers then he has in l.a

good point. I meant to emphasize that because Lebron/wade/kobe are the center pieces of their franchise. They also provide the chemistry and experience to make young or experienced players around them develop even further. Since gasol was traded, he has improved his defense. After watching gasol for years, and watching him play on the lakers, his defense has improved. Other than that, you are right, he’s playing the same on a winning team and people will notice.

lebron provides experience and great chemistry, allowing mo to develop even further and adding skills to his game. I’m not taking anything away from mo before he landed in cleveland, but he is much better now than before.

I’m sure if beasely was the #1 option on another team, he could put the numbers up. Because he’s playing with wade, he gets the opportunity of less attenion to himself when he has the ball, allowing him to develop. Wade’s experience and chemistry allows beasely to become so much better for the future.

what i’m emphasizing is, chemistry and experience will pass to other players and make them better.

i dont see mo being better because of lebron. he does get more open looks because of lebrons presence but not because lebron has made him better. his game really hasnt changed except he doesnt have to try to take over games. as far as gasol’s defense that can be more related to having more talent around him while not having to expend a bunch of energy having to do so much on offense to keep his teams in games. and recently him being able to check pf instead of center which so he doesnt have to bang up against 280-300lb guys which really take there toll. with beasley i think he would be good where ever he would have played because hes that talented. like if bron went to the lakers and had to play with kobe. some players are just gonna be good where ever they go. i honestly think he would score more as a number 2 option on other teams liek if he went to the bulls instead of rose last year
