Right now the Rocets are in a strange position, they just lost and excellent coach and have logjams at the PG and PF spot.

The PF spot is just completely jammed, they’ve got Louis Scola, Patrick Patterson, Jordan Hill, Donatas Motejunas and Marcus Morris, who are all IMO better suited playing PF. They do have an option to not use the team option on Patterson and Hill in 2012-2013, but IMO, that would just be a waste of draft picks/trades.

They also have 3 decent PGs in Lowry, Dragic and Flynn. Dragic’s contact does expire after this season and if Johnny Flynn doesn’t pan out they can just not pick up his team option.

Right now the roster looks like this:

    PG Lowry (Flynn, Dragic)

SG Martin (Courtney Lee, T. Williams)

SF Chase Budinger (T. Williams, M. Morris)

PF Scola (Hill, Patterson, Motejunas, Morris)

    C Thabeet (Hill)

Now they obviously need an upgrade at the C position and could use an upgrade at the SF.

What do you see them doing? Sign a free agent (which)? Make a trade (for who)?

They might try to go for Chandler or Nene, but I don’t really see that happening. They may try to trade for Kaman. What are your thoughts?

i would even say that Hill is more of a power forward then a center…they biggest need right now i would say is  another center

I think for some odd reason Kevin McHale is gonna put Marcus Morris so they can have more of a height advantage (because we all know how his celtics were with there size) but besides that Motejunas though he is very skiny and doesnt have that much strength he is still 7 foot tall and he is still capable of playing center but out of those power forwards I think the only keepers are the rookies because they’re in they’re  rebuilding stage so I would play Scola alot of minutes and get his trade value up till the trade dead line and trade him and maybe Martin for somethines good like a draft pick or a young star

I think they’ll make a trade with Hill, Flynn, Terrance Williams, and Lee for wither Deron Williams, Chris Paul, or Dwight Howard.

They will forsure make a trade this season or next off-season that will get them a young/good level player to move forward with a core of Lowry, Martin, Motiejunas, and Patterson.

You may have a point. Houston has some tradable piecies over there. Deron Williams could be a possibility, after all he is from Texas. Houston has Jonny Flynn, T-Will,, Gordon Dragic and even Lowry if they wanted to make a push for Deron Williams. The would probably have to surrender Patrick Patterson as well as some picks, but could work.

And not just Williams. The Rockets have enough assests to go after somebody. I dont know if they would be able to land Howard without giving up a good big man in return and they dont have that.

Lol Minnesota take 2…. just logjams at pg and pf… I think houston is in a better position though because almost all of the players they have are worthy of playing time and can definitely help out a team given the opportunity.. i was extremely disappointed in my wolves when they traded you motiejunas, 7 footers with his skill level don’t come around often… you can take flynn though.. They are in a great position in terms of trading for whatever they want.. overdealing for a star wouldn’t even hurt them that much either, they have talent and youth at every position (except center)..

would never trade deron for a package of average players, 2 of which they gave away (williams and lee)…the magic wouldnt take that deal for dwight, and the hornets could get much more than 4 role players for cp3

Houston have been around .500 for the last two years with several personal changes – Brooks, Battier and Ariza who were all key players in 2009/10 have now left and with a new Head Coach they have to find a way forward. Luckily McHale will not be near the front office making trades and in Daryl Morey they have a good young GM. Even with a 2013 first rounder going to the T-Wolves, Houston do have the pick due from NY, one due from Memphis and various young pieces who teams looking to rebuild might be interested in.

I agree that Scola and Martin alone will not be enough to entice a top FA perhaps next summer but adding someone before then could make the FA search a lot easier.

Taking a look at this roster as is: This is a really bad basketball team! They definitely need to make a splash and hopefully get one of the centers. If not, they may not win 30 games.

MJbrown you are right…this team is pretty bad. I think what they should do is trade their older players and get rid of all the bad contracts and hope for a top pick in 2012.

They need to do whatever they can to get one of the centres available right now, whethers through free agency, sign and trade or trade.

Marc Gasol, Nene, Tyson Chandler, Chris Kaman, DeAndre Jordan.

Their only players worth trading for are Kyle Lowry, Luis Scola, and Kevin Martin.
The rest of their guys are average at best. Not sure what the team is doing. It looks like
a team stuck in Mediocrity Hell.

Martin, Scola, and Lowry is not exactly a Big Three. A few weeks ago I commented on an article
I saw which said that Darryl Morey is overrated. I think he is overrated. His players are overrated and the Rockets
are trying to build a contender around 2nd and 3rd tier guys along with a bunch of redundant role players.
Doesn’t sound too smart to me.

I have this gut feeling that Patrick Patterson is going to end up being a pretty good player. I’m not saying I’d build my team around him or anything crazy like that, but I’d look to trade pretty much anyone else on that roster.
