Now that the Suns have lost out on James Harden, what should they do now?

They still have that big need at the 2, should they throw $$$ at guys like Tyreke Evans, Monta Ellis or Demar Derozan?

Or like what I would do, just focus in on a 2 in the draft (guys I like include Archie Goodwin, Alex Abrines, KCP) and then sign a guy like Kevin Martin for a short term deal?

    What should they do now???

I remember a Sun executive saying they won’t just sign somebody and that the guy had to fit what they want to do. I think it was a veiled reference towards OJ Mayo. They like most GM offices have a metric analysis and want guys that fit into there system if a long term deal is arranged. They won’t sign a guy just because.

I have no idea what they do, but if Derozan were to somehow land on their team, provided they use the same run-n-gun Suns system as always, I wouldn’t be surprised if he made a couple of trips to the All-Star game.

I don’t think it was ever James Harden or bust. It was a long shot that he was ever going to play there anyway. Not saying he wouldn’t sign there, but OKC would have matched if it would have came to losing him for nothing. Houston will as match anything as well if they don’t get an deal done by tomorrow.

Right now the way I see it is they stand pat, make a deal if a good one comes along…if not hope to get lucky in the draft.

As a Suns fan, I’ll admit the team has gone into almost a stalemate situation trying to carry on after STAT left but now with Hill and Nash having moved on, we have had to try and rebuild. But we have done it by adding nice complimentary pieces rather than a star player which I feel the team really needs. Scola was a bargain pick up and Beasley will add nice scoring but neither are game changers.

The team has a lot of players on mid level type money and will not have cap room for another couple of years unless they can make trades. The team perhaps needs to get worse to get better if it wants to build via the draft but it is not that bad a team that unless the lottery balls come up, it will be a later lottery/borderline play off team.

Perhaps we need to hope we can rebuild like how the Pacers did with good late lottery draft picks as they were in a similar position a few years ago waiting to clear cap space and for younger players to come through.

Unless you have a super-star at a certain position, i wouldnt worry about position so much in drafting/signing…you take the best player available at all times if your a rebuilding team. Obviously the Wizards or Cavs wouldnt take a point guard, and to me, the Suns have no player that is untouchable or that promising…

The Suns need to rebuild, and that means not throwing money at a middling ball dominant guard. Rebuilding sucks to do, but if you it right and be patient it won’t last very long

Both Derozan and Toronto will be looking to make a deal for sure.  He’s not a max guy so there is a limit to what Toronto will pay.  But they will have money and may be willing to pay slightly above market to keep him.  In other words for him to leave TO the Suns would be overpaying for him.
