Counting StarsParticipantSave some money to extend Lopez?
About all I can think of.

sheltwon3ParticipantI think they need to be patient and maybe do some trades where they take bigger contracts and get picks. Like they could possibly take on Kirilenko, Peja. Kenyon Martin, and others on one year deal contracts and a draft pick to help teams get more financial freedom.

ilike.panochasParticipantWhat they can do is save that money for next year (instead of overpaying for someone this year because of desperation to spend money), and build your team thru the draft just like the Thunders did. They did a great job drafting Brook Lopez, Terrence Williams is looking like a good draft choice, and Derrick Favors has enormous potential, and if they become the worst team in the league again next season, they have a shot at Harrison Barnes.
Devin Harris
Terrence Williams
Derrick Favors
Brook Lopez
Harrison Barnes (potentially if they own the worst record again next season)
And with money to spend next year. They should go with this plan.

sammybuckeye13ParticipantThis is what they do:
After rookie contracts and Outlaw’s signing, they will likely be at around $32 million. They should NOT extend a qualifying offer to Josh Boone. I’m adamant about that. They should offer Mike Miller 5 years/$40 million to ensure they get a vet who can shoot; they DIRELY need a shooter. Then maybe add an experienced big man, like, say, Brad Miller, for around 3 years/$18 million. Then you have a lineup of:
Devin Harris
Terrence Williams (going to be great)
Mike Miller
Derrick Favors
Brook LopezBench: Travis Outlaw, Courtney Lee, Brad Miller, Damion James (who will be very good, dropped 30 yesterday), and a couple minimum pieces.
That;s not a bad team at all; they will have filled their biggest needs from last year (shooting and experience and another player over 6-5 who can score), and will still have around $7 million in cap room. Then in 2011 they don’t extend Courtney Lee (HUGE disappointment last year, very little upside and they have a lot of guys who can play the 2), and sign Jason Richardson with their cap space.
Devin Harris
Jason Richardson/Terrence Williams
Mike Miller/Travis Outlaw
Derrick Favors/Damion James (though more of a SF)
Brook Lopez/Brad MillerIf Lopez, Favors, Williams and Outlaw (still only 25) mature as expected, that’s a damn good team.

sheltwon3ParticipantTerrence Williams should be starting and I actually think he is more versatile than Richardson. That being said if they can do a lopsided trade and get a young player and Richardson cool and then they will make the Minimum and Williams can play the 3 and then next year they can add some more pieces. They could also sign scappy guys like barnes for cheap to fill out their roster. I thought they would sign Richard Jefferson but going the Outlaw route actually is cheaper and makes sense.

Hoops MaestroParticipantThe Nets will be fine — they’re only a year away from the playoffs. I expect 35-40 wins this year. Favors and Williams are going to be good, and I like the Outlaw signing — perfect for Avery Johnson’s defensive focus, and a good complement to Lopez and Favors. They still have plenty of cash left to split on two really good free agents, a big man and a shooter, or a shooter and a swing guard…
Go after Udonis Haslem and Anthony Morrow….

ronniemiller1kParticipantif they can get haslem cheap im all for it, if not trade courtney lee (dudes gonna complain like cdr i know it) and bring back kenyon and a draft pick and have him hold down the fort till favors can start, plus from what ive seen of favors he could use some nasty and no one better than kenyon to learn from….morrow would be nice to bring along too…we got a deep team just no bonafied studs, soon enough….melo

fastdanParticipantMiller for 3 years for 6 mil a year? Did you know he’s already 35? Wait for Jrich? That’s a great idea if they want to be like the Pacers or Raptors and settle for mediocrity year after year.
Tank next year and hope for Barnes or Melo to come, don’t squander your cape space on role players that arn’t going to bring your team anywhere but the late lottery.

Hoops MaestroParticipantFarmar and Petro are good depth additions, and they did go after Haslem and Morrow as I had hoped. Unfortunately Haslem wants to stay in Miami, but they landed a pure shooter in Morrow.
Still cash for one more guy, a veteran PF to tutor Favors and start for a year or two.

GodfatherParticipantIt’s simple. Who is their shooting guard/small forward?
I would have been LeBron, then even Nets fans realized that nobody truly wants to play in New Jersey.
I say trade for a Monta Ellis kind of guy. They are a great young team, I’d even throw Devin Harris into that trade. Monta is two years younger, and will no longer take bad shots if he is in New Jersey because he won’t be playing under Don Nelson who orgasms over bad shots almost as much as Al Harrington.
