What it could have been if the Cavs drafted in this order.

    2011
    1st Pick- Kyrie Irving
4th Pick- Jonas Valančiūnas / (Tristan Thompson)

    2012
4th Pick- Harrison Barnes / (Dion Waiters)
17th Pick- Terrence Jones / (Tyler Zeller)

    2013
1st Pick- Victor Oladipo / (Anthony Bennett)

    Their starting five could be:
    PG- Kyrie Irving
    SG- Victor Oladipo
    SF- Harrison Barnes
    PF- Terrence Jones
    C- Jonas Valančiūnas

But then again if we knew how players will turn out to be we be somewhere up there.

I can’t say I’ve ever seen a team waste so many top 5 picks in a row. The last few drafts haven’t been the best but Waiters at 4 and Bennett at 1 were definitely reaches. It’s like they don’t even look at their roster. Knowing them they’ll probably pick a PG even if Hood or Randle is still on the board.

Forget JVal and Barnes, I’d want Drummond in a redraft.

     Stoooop with this crap!

This thread is up once a week, if the Cavs drafted all the best possible players they might’ve still been awful right now.

Look at them, they have two walking double-doubles and 2 all-stars in their starting line-up; they have one of the most talented benches in the league!

Their problem is NOT a lack of talent. They are getting beat by the Bulls not because the Bulls are more talented, but because the coaching sucks and the chemistry is garbage

How do you NOT take Drummond on a re-draft?

I’d have taken Ben Mac this year so hard to say what they’d be like there.

I tool would’ve taken JV and probably traded him once 2 idiots passed on Drummond and probably gotten back another lottery pick for him. But that’s so freaking speculative that it’s hard to say what it would’ve been.

This is pretty much worthless, only in the sense that Cleveland would have had completely different picks, but ill add to the comparison, I’m going by current production not future "projections".

Per 36 minutes Jonas V is the same player as Tristan T for the first 2 years of their careers.

Dion Waiters is more effective than Harrison Barnes in less minutes per game, you could say that Waiters is the 2nd option, I would say Barnes has less attention because of Curry, K Thompson, Lee

Not going to compare Zeller and T Jones, both are out of the lottery.

And you can’t compare this years draft picks, the jury is still out, Bennett has been horrible but too small of sample size.

—– While I think Grant has done a horrible job as GM apart from trades, besides Anthony Davis was there a sure thing in any of those 3 drafts? 2011 Irving Williams, Kanter were all top pick considerations, 2012 Anthony Davis sure fire top pick, 2013 Mclemore, Oladipo, Len, Porter, Noel

Oh and Mike Brown is probably the worst thing that could have happened, not that Byron Scott was any better.

    Just my 2 cents

Do we really need a "How good the Cavs could’ve been?" thread every week? I mean, just look back I can remember at least 5 of them.

Anyone who didn’t take Drummond at 2 was a complete moron IMO. I said it at the draft time.

Drummond always had the absolute highest ceiling but had a lower floor than AD and had more risk.

But they easily had the 2 highest upsides in the entire draft. Passing on him for anyone else was making an inferior pick.

As a cavs fan, I use to do this for fun. When you analyze all these selections, you can see why he passed on a certain prospect. The 2012 draft is a controversial one for Cleveland fans because we passed on guys like Barnes and Drummond. He could’ve settled for Harrison Barnes, a wing with average athleticism and little upside. He decided to wait because he wanted something better for the position. One year later, that paid dividends as we ended up trading for a top 5 SF in Luol Deng.

I’ll admit Drummond has potential but man, he has ZERO basketball IQ and no post moves. He doesn’t have great size but makes up for it with his athleticism. I don’t really mind that we passed on him because there are better options. I didn’t know much about Waiters at the time but now, I’d take him over anyone in that draft and I’m not being biased. That’s how much I love Waiters as a basketball player and I think he’s way better than Victor Oladipo.

Last but not least, I still believe in Anthony Bennett. He has all the tools to be a great player. I think next year he will be our full time backup 4 and will get plenty of minutes. I can tell you flaws from every other prospect: Porter lacks athleticism, Zeller is soft, Len is raw, Noel is thin as stick and his knees won’t hold up, McLemore is undersized. I’m glad we took a risk with Bennett.

Barns has average athleticism? Didn’t he have one of the highest vertical leaps in his draft? And I wouldn’t say he has little upside at all, I think he’s just dying to break out in a situation where he can.

Drummond is only 19 or 20 and big men take longer to develop…  he is already a top 5 center in the league at his age…  Waiters is not worth taking over THAT.  Barnes has the potential to be a very good scorer and more importantly a great defender for his position.  Waiters will always be a below average defender…  and all of that isn’t even taking into account the terrible teamate he has been.

I also think Bennett has talent…  the thing I really don’t like about him is his attitude.  He is lazy, immature, and has a low basketball IQ.  I’m hoping this season will be a wake up call for him and he will come back next season in great shape and ready to compete.

Either way a Kyrie/Oladipo/Barnes/T.Jones/Jo Val team would still suck. The higher Barnes usage the worse his numbers and both Kyrie and Jo Val are injury prone.

Oladipo’s numbers are eerily similar to Waiters.

    .414 FG, .295 3%, 76% FT, 13.3 ppg PER 13

    .405 FG, .346 3%, 69% FT, 14,4 ppg PER 12

Drafting great or near perfect in bad drafts would turn terrible to less terrible at best.

A shot blocker turns this team to a .500 team and that’s the only hope.

Cavs fans need to get over it. Cavs have been taking the best player available as they see it. All this is is monday morning quaterbacking. IMO cavs have done a good job in collecting talent, all they need is to do a better job of meshing it…why would you ever hire mike brown is waaay beyond me. Anthony bennett will be a very good player in this league, karasev and felix will be rotation worthy, karasev might turn into the steal of the draft. Bennett should be in the dleague, not because he sucks, but because he is one year removed from high school and he needs minutes. did I say Mike Brown sucks? Dion is not a shooting guard!! He is being misused, he is a combo guard he is better with ball in his hands. Kyrie IS a shooting guard, he needs to play off the ball more, All the cavs need is a coach theat can mesh the talent.

If they picked differently in 2011, chances are they wouldn’t of had the exact same draft picks in 2012. If they drafted different in 2012, chances are they wouldn’t of ended up with the No. 1 pick and they may have been in the playoffs too. Therfore, your argument is invalid.
