Of any NBA player averaging 22 minutes per game, Roberson averages the least amount of points at 4.8. He’s shooting 27% from deep and 63% from the free throw line. Players don’t guard him, they can collapse the paint and stop the drive from Westbrook and/or Durant.

Sefolosha could at least spread the floor, and I get that Roberson’s on the court for defensive purposes, but there has to be a guy out there that OKC can target who can be the 3+D guy. Morrow is strictly a 3 guy, Waiters is neither, but what happened to the concept of giving Huestis a shot?

Haha maybe it is an FU to Harden not only did they trade him but now they are going to try to win a title with the worst SGs possible.

+100. My friend and I were talking about it the other day. Our consensus belief was he is used as a versatile defender to provide relief to Durant or Westbrook so they can have focus and energy on the offensive end to an extent. The idea is Roberson should be able to gaurd multiple positions to create a interchangeable lineup. I’m not a wizard on defensive efficiency stats like some of the people using this forum but from the naked eye he doesn’t strike me as a great enough defender to a point where it compensates for his lack of offense.

I’m still mad they didn’t trade for Courtney Lee…Charlotte got him for nothing & he’s exactly the kind of player OKC needs at the 2. I get that they want a good defender who doesn’t need the ball to fill that spot on offense, but if that guy can’t make the WIDE OPEN looks Russ & KD create it’s pointless.

That $18mill Enes Kancer contract is a crippler for OKC.

Pau Gasol has come out and said he wants to play for a contender and not fussed about money. He would of been perfect for the Thunder.

Yes smoovekrypt Court Lee would have been good for Thunder. McGary also needs more minutes

They see Roberson as an elite defender but when he switches to PGs, he alwaaaaayss gets beaten. I watch a ton of Thunder games and he’s the liability of all liabilities. His shot… man he makes MKG look like Klay Thompson out there.

I don’t want to say it’s purely him, but I feel he is the main reason the Thunder are underperforming this season. Everytime Durant or Westbrook goes on their isolations, Roberson’s defender will stay on their side of the floor rather than follow him. That’s why it seems like KD is always triple/double teamed. When he does pass out Roberson obviously shoots bricks.

Agree, I was never a fan of Roberson, his offensive game is not even good for the Icelandic Division III. His defensive is good, but overrated.
Giving Huestis a shot? Brrrrr…  He’s one of the worst starters in the D-League… There’s a good chance he’ll never hit an NBA court despite his two year guaranteed contract.
Was a huge mistake overdrafting him just for the agreement to ‘develop’ a year with the Blue. Selecting an overseas player or trading back a complete round to take him would have been better.

I seem to be one of the only OKC fans on the site, and I’ve been griping about Roberson and Thunder SG’s in general for years. Even my friends who know almost nothing about basketball know Roberson is quite possibly the worst starter in the entire league.

He’s a decent defender but he’s not great, he does rebound above average for a two-guard but still not enough to give him significant minutes. Waiters is a joke, as much hate as Kanter gets from you guys I never hear you guys dogging Waiters much, he is in my opinion OKC’s worst player since he does significantly more harm than good. Kanter is at least a good scorer and rebounder, sure he’s not amazing on defense but that’s what Adams is for. Foye is also a joke, almost as bad of a chucker as Waiters. The only guy I kind of like that plays occasional SG for the Thunder is Morrow, and he’s extremely one dimensional.

I’ve been saying for a long time we needed a post scorer and a half decent SG before we will be a championship team. Kanter has filled the post scoring role nicely, but still waiting to see OKC get someone like Wesley Matthews. I was really hoping with the extra roster slot from the Foye trade they’d go after Ray Allen, sure he’s old but he can actually make his shots, alas they got Nazr Mohammed.

    Sigh…

I thought for sure when Billy Donovan was hired that Andre Roberson would be benched. His game has too many limitations go warrant the minutes he’s receiving. As a user mentioned Courtney Lee would be an ideal replacement and it’s crazy the Thunder didn’t go for him. With the cap raising the Thunder would be crazy not to look for an upgrade at that position…assuming they are able to retain Kevin Durant.
