TRC1991ParticipantWhat I don’t really get is how you can blame a guy who goes for 30 points and 13 boards, plays unbelievably hard every single play (offensively and defensively) and is averaging 27.1 ppg in the series for this team losing.
Kevin Durant goes 0-8 from deep and has missed 45 total shots through 3 games yet you somehow pick apart Westbrook. I can’t tell you how spoiled you all sound…He’s 25 years old, the most explosive point guard in the NBA, and averaged 22 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds a game….If you think he is the reason for your inability to get a ring, you’re badly mistaken.
The reason you guys won’t win a ring is because you have 2 players that can score the basketball. TWO. Scott Brooks is entranced by these defensive players who can’t put the ball in the basket (Fisher, Sefolosha, Roberson, Perkins). Ibaka is your #3 option offensively and he is extremely inconsistent. Don’t blame Westbrook. Blame management for holding on to Scott Brooks for so long.
Insanity is doing the same thing OVER and OVER and expecting different results. Scott Brooks plays the same rotations, the same players play the same minutes, his offensive set is as followed: "WESTBROOK ISO. DURANT ISO. REPEAT"
I’m a completely non-biased fan. I live in a part of the USA that has no pro bball. I watch as a true fan of basketball. Westbrook HAS To be aggressive, because the Thunder don’t have a whole lof of other options.

Kokayne_DawkinzParticipantFinally someone said it!!!! I agree with you 100% I’ve been arguing on forum and with my friends about this for 3 years now. Remember last year everyone was saying how the Thunder needs Westbrook because he takes pressure off of Durant and now everyone wants him out of town.

chaParticipantScorers in general are picked apart each and every time if they don’t have a ring see Kobe post Shaq and Melo. Moreover, I really like Westbrook, he is what he is which is a scorer. I think he actually added something to his game this season: a left handed on the move bullet pass which makes him that much more difficult to defend in transition and open court. Like many scorers, you need to have that ‘I’m not gonna miss’ mentality in order to remain effective.

TallmanNYCParticipantThe guys got 82 points in the series on 73 shots. Now that isn’t Rudy Gay territory. But it certainly isn’t great. The Nets could probably get that level of production from Marcus Thorton if we gave him the minutes and the green light.
He plays super hard and is really good (rebounding and hustle). But no he doesn’t have to take this many shots. We’ve see OKC play without Westbrook for long stretches and while they aren’t quite as good, it isn’t like their offense falls apart.
Agree though that Brooks is a bad coach who has been covered up by having the second best player in the game (KD) and a ton of other talent (of which Westbrook is one).

ChewyParticipantis money, as a small market team. Westbrook- Harden-Durant-Ibaka- Perkins could easily be serious contender to be the Heat!

mrhancocParticipantI agree wit ya Taylor, Westbrook is getting the job done , the issue with him is that he’s not necessary a prototype of PG that would be perfect for this Thunder team and its not his fault, as a coach u wouldn’t want to change him either b/c he’s great at what he does. Fact is, the OKC organization has been dropping the ball as of late…….they need to find that 3rd player that can help balance the dynamics of Westbrook and Durant, I suggest that they should go get a really good PG and move Westbrook to SG

Russell0WestbrookParticipantI would be lying if I said westbrook doesn’t take bad shot but come on his role is to score. I would live for the thunder to go after a Jeff Van Gundy or someone who actually makes adjustments with his roles for different match ups

TRC1991ParticipantIf you watched the playoffs last year, it was beyond recognizable that OKC NEEDS Russell Westbrook to be competitive.

Mad MaxParticipantFisher isn’t a defensive player lol, he’s there to shoot 3’s. He can’t stay in front of anyone but. I agree tho, Brooks is the problem. Add the fact the have no reall consistent offensive players outside of KD and Westbrook.
Okc needs to fire Brooks, and get a big that score some in the post

Ghost01ParticipantI’m not hating, but the fact is, Westbrook plays completely out of control and takes shots that defy logic.
He has such a low basketball IQ, you can say he has all the talent and all the stats in the world, it still doesn’t mean he shouldn’t get blamed for anything. If you have watched the last two games, he has taken a ton of shots in big spots where Durant needs a touch, and topped it off with a possession last night where he dribbled into double coverage as Durant was wide open, and proceeded to take a fadeaway 3 that hit the top of the backboard.
No one is doubting his talent. I would take him on my team. But his unbelievably reckless style doesn’t lend OKC any favors, and it makes it extremely difficult to root for OKC has a non-bias observer. Its bad basketball, and a lot of it Brooks’ fault without question, but Westbrook still could be so much better if he were smarter and understood situations better. Point blank, I think he needs his own team. It sounds silly, but I just think he is destined to be a No.1 guy.

llperezim a westbrook fan and supporter. But like others have said, he needs to play smarter. he is not entirely to blame, durant struggles are his won doing, but westbrook has too many questionable plays at this point. You have to love the confidence and aggressiveness, but he needs to learn to combine that aggressiveness with a higher IQ.
One of my favorite quotes from any nba player ever was larry bird who said (im paraphrasing as i dont remember the quote verbatim) " i dont play the game to stuff the stat sheet, i play for the moment when you know you are in control of the court". He was saying how stats and all that goes out the window in comparison to knowing that you are in complete control of not only yourself, but the entire court and your ability to read everything around you, and that, allows you to truly dictate the outcome.

Land of GrantParticipantReally great post. Guys in the NBA are so shallow now, just about getting theirs (his), and not playing for the real moments. The most compelling thing in the world is a player who is in complete control of the court, and it almost never happens. There was LeBron’s 45 in game 6 against Boston, Melo’s 61 (not Lebron’s 61, didn’t really get that vibe, just made a bunch of shots), Kobe’s 81, and not much more. I wanna watch players become masters of the court, but I think that neither Westbrook nor Durant can transcend to that level with the other one on the floor.
