goldenshotsParticipantBoth are similar in build (and kinda style)….Both are having breakout seasons……similar positions…..
My 2 questions are:
Who would u rather want on ur team (in college)?who will be the better pro?
This is a tough one….But i might have to go with Turner on both, but barely….(the only reason is becuz Turner has shown progress/improvement….Wes might be a one hit wonder)
Also lets assume they play like they r playin (or at least close) for the rest of the year………

bigballa3jjParticipantEvan Turner, 10 times out of 10

Cusemen727ParticipantIm not sure what player I would take, because they are both having great starts to the season, but to say wesley hasnt progressed and might be a one hit wonder is stupid, this is a guy that as a frosh at Iowa St. averaged 12.3pts and 8reb, had a down year as a soph.(12.4 and 4) but that was playing on a bum ankle the majority of the season, had to sit out the next year because of the transfer, but as you can see now hes become the best player(17.3pts, 7.5reb, 2.5blks, 2.8stls) on a top 10 team. and as you can tell by my username im a big cuse fan, and im not downing turner in anyway, a guy that already has 2 trip doub is a stud in my book, im just pointing out this wes is also a bonified stud and possible big east player of the year candidate.

Adi JosephI would say Turner, undoubtedly, is the better college player. But I think Johnson is te better NBA prospect. I like them both as late-lottery picks.
The thing is, Johnson is a significantly better shooter than Turner. Turner is a significantly better passer than Johnson. In most other regards, they are fairly similar. Sure, Turner’s a bit stronger, but Johnson’s athleticism helps make up for that on the boards.
Now, if each were to reach their full potential as pros, a very good argument could be made that Turner would be more of a game changer, involving his teammates more and less prone to streaky performances. Johnson, then, would be a very productive scorer but probably not a better overall player.
But the realistic outcome is that neither emerges enough to be a team’s first option. They both come across as very good secondary pieces — when I say that, I don’t mean role players and bit parts, I’m referring to a team’s second option or complimentary weapon next to a star big man, ideally.
With that said, I believe Turner is more ball-reliant than Johnson. One of my biggest beliefs has always been you want to limit the number of players on a team who are heavily ball-reliant. Johnson’s ability in catch-and-shoot situations and his low turnover rate make him more attractive when viewed from an efficiency perspective.
Johnson is more likely to make the most out of a side role, while Turner might be more equip to run the show. I’m just not sure either is really an All-Star type at the NBA level.

JNixonParticipantEvan Turner. Easily. He brings more to the table than Johnson does.

cheesepillowParticipantAt first, it was pretty close. But after reading the article, I think Turner’s maturity and humbleness will lead him to be a more successful player over the course of this season, as well as in the pros. I look forward to following both players as they quickly became some of my favorite players outside of my team (Zags)

FastAndFuriousParticipantPeople Need To Get Off Both Band-Wagons Seriously.
Johnson Is Good But Top 5 Pick Not Happening,6-7 Really Cant Handle The Ball,He Is Athletic But By No Means Is He A Freak Athlete(Rudy Gay) So Unless He Improves Heavily On The Ball Handling He Will Be A 10-15.
Turner Good, 2 Triple Doubles. But Those Were Against Weak Competition.
He’s 1-2 In Actual High level Comp IMO.
Cal: He Looked Legit
UNC: 10 Turnovers, 23 Points But More Than Half Was Scored When They Were Getting Blew Out.

RalwarezParticipantNo doubt about that. In my team he´d play combo guard, mostly point, too. PG That height can shoot, pass and defende without putting out maximum effort – look at the Tyreke. But Evans is an inch taller and has a bigger wingspan. He can do everything the team needs – score, rebound, pass, defend, take over games etc. Who would turn down such a player.

RalwarezParticipantJohnson may be a bit better scorer though

RICO 1981ParticipantJohnson is the better scorer, but Turner is a jack of all trades type player he gets rebs, steals, dimes, and points, but johnson gets more buckets. I would take Turner over johnson, I think both we be soild pro’s.

trojans13ParticipantI think Turner is the safe pick if you want a solid 12 year pro, but I think with the athleticism and shooting ability that Johnson brings to the table he has the potential to be an All-Star. He’s just more of high risk/high reward option while Turner would be a safe pick

Champzilla21Participanti would take turner because he can get into the lane anytime he wants to, and his handling is allready at a nba level combine that with his 6’7 frame thats pretty deadly, and look he just got another triple double last game 16 pts 11 assists and 10 rebs. Also college rebound numbers usually transfer over to the nba and hes averages like 13 rebs a game. Not saying he will average that many in the league but theres no reason he wont rebound at a very high level

Dhamp2ParticipantIf this doesn’t pertain to you then don’t worry, but i hate when people started jumping on the Wesley Johnson bangwagon. I’ve been talking about him on this site for nine months….He was the best player on the team last year (in practice), which is the main reason Devo and especially Paul Harris declared for the draft. No disrespect if you aren’t jumping on the bandwagon. But for the people are who, please stick to one team or player.

tonyl33ParticipantI’m a big Cuse fan so I’m a bit more bias to Johnson but watching Turner play it’s hard to compare the two. I believe it really comes down what type of francise I have. If I’m looking for that Francise player I’ll pick Turner because he’ll be able to lead a team. If I’m looking to win right now, I’m going to pick Johnson becuase he’ll be a better score. It’s like a poor mans version of Lebron (play maker) and Melo (Offensive machine)? Who do you want? Can’t go wrong either way. Their both great but it really depends upon your team. I think Turner has the skill sets to become a super star with his well rounded abilities which can lead a team and Johnson an all star knocking down big shots and leading a team in scoring. I’ve kind of seen what Turner’s ability is and where his potential is, I’m just waiting to see where Johnson’s potential are as the coach said, “He’s still rusty and getting back into the flow of the game and we haven’t what he can do yet”.

Dhamp2ParticipantGood point Q…..Some people on this site should pay more attention when I say a player is good. Only kidding. Good point man. He did play at Iowa State though.

quincey hodgesyeah but you said he was good during the summer..no one had a chance to see him during the summer..and playing at iowa state doesnt get you much recognition either and he wasnt exactly killing it while out there you know….actually that kid brackins was/is a beast

Dhamp2ParticipantNow wait one min! It doesn’t get too much better than the Big 12 conference. It’s not like he was playing for Vermont. I don’t even live in New York and I knew about Johnson.

quincey hodgesyeah the big 12 is good but the casual fan only pays attention to the kansas and texas and oklahoma..how many tompics have been on any other team in the big 12 on here or other sites?..see what im saying…now the die hard fans probably know a lil about him

lalailaParticipantYou can’t compare someone who has Griffin like numbers in pts/rebs at sf position plus 7apg per game, it’s just unbelievable!!! I’m not a fan of juniors and seniors usually but however no matter he is 21yrs old, if he is 15/5/5 player in the NBA from year one he still has some upside up 20/6/6 guy…so that’s is still better potential than an avarage stats freshmen who won’t be a starter in the NBA next year and everyone loves him because of athleticism and “potential”

JNixonParticipantI agree that Johnson is the better scorer, but Evan Turner seems like a Brandon Roy level contributor. Meaning, I see him as the Rookie of the Year and I think he’ll develop into a 1st option NBA scorer and All-Star. Bold prediction? I think so. Early? I also think so. But barring a freak injuries or something ridiculous happening, that’s just how I see him. Johnson was a good little player at Iowa State Quincey, but as you said, I can see how the casual fan wouldn’t know who he is. Brackins wasn’t the prospect he is now when Johnson played for them and Iowa State hasn’t been a contender since Marcus Fizer and Jamaal Tinsley played for them and they rarely if ever got/get national exposure. But as a fan of a Big 12 team that plays ISU twice per season (Kansas State) I saw him and was familiar somewhat with him as a player. But he has gotten alot better since then honestly. I think he’ll be a great 2nd or 3rd option in the L, but if I had to choose the better prospect and future player, I’d go Turner.
