Hopefully this makes people realize that when preseason hype comes from the same campus that the kid plays on then take it with a grain of salt. Apparently reports were that they were both much better. Doubted it before the season and doubt it 2 games in. Not sure what people were thinking when they said UCLA has one of the best collection of bigs in the nation. Also Josh Smith doesn’t look slimmer than last year he actually looks bigger (but he’s still a beast when he isn’t fouling). They just lost to Tenn St by 20. I actually thought they would be better than this but knew they wouldn’t be as good as the polls said but this surprises me. Could this be Baylor of last year or worst?

The worst part is Shabazz Muhammad is probably watching this and thinking " Maybe i should just cut down my list to UK and Duke.

The answer is worse, much worse… Under Howland UCLAs glory days came along side a great crop of guards.  Farmar, Afflalo, Collison, Westbrook, Holiday etc…  Their guards are below average this year and the Ware twins have always been overrated.  Smith has great hands and a huge frame and that’s it, he can barely make it up and down the floor. Howland has been doing a subpar job of recruiting latley and going after overrated players who haven’t panned out or transfered.  Also, can we put Arizona on Muhammad’s short list please????

It’s a good frontline. One of the best cores in the nation, but they don’t have the guard play or perimeter shooting to pose a threat. Guard play matters. Having good frontline players can be somewhat nullified if your guard play is lacking AND you don’t have a single shooter on the roster.

The frontline is not the problem. The gaurd play is beyond awful. And they can’t buy a jumper. Plus Nelson didn’t play in the second game. It might be a long season for ucla, but it won’t be because their bigs. Plus damn if these 2 opponents won’t miss a jumper. Lmu and mtenn combined to shoot about 75% from 3. And ko way is smith bigger then he was lat year. Bruins just look really discombobulated and passionless. Maybe instead of suspending Nelson for being angry they should have let Him get on them more because they looked lazier without him.
