I watched all the tape I could find (often more than once) on the top 80 players. I’m exhausted. Here’s my mock…
I included scouting comments along with my own. I hope I edited out all the cursing.
Let me know your thoughts.

paintingshadeParticipantOtto Porter won’t drop that far… and not too many teams are hot on Plumlee i don’t think.
I don’t see Zeller or Muhammed going that high either. Oladipo is DEFINITELY considered a better prospect than Shabazz.
I can’t see the Pels going for Carter-Williams over Burke.
Tony Mitchell, Giannis, and CJ Leslie are too high. Teams aren’t as hot on Adeto anymore cause he wants to come over now.
Shane Larkin too high.
Southerland probably too high.
AJ Matthews?
Nogueira 2nd round? nope.
Olynyk 47? absolutely not.
I think Eric Green will go higher.
If this is only based on your watching tape, then I get it, and probably not bad. But as a realistic mock, I don’t think it’s very accurate.

MopgrassParticipantI’m mostly impressed you read that fast.
This is a bit more of an idealist mock. I read, then pretended I didn’t read A LOT of reports about where who will go and went with what I thought smart GM’s would do.
I’m well aware Porter and Olynyk are slated to go way higher and they probably will. I just don’t think they should.
But yes, A.J. Matthews is awesome. I’d actually like to have him higher. He will be drafted.

paintingshadeParticipantyeah I totally get your POV. My mock is based on what I think will happen, not what I think should happen. But if I were to do what you did, my ideal mock might look similar.
I’m intrigued by the AJ Matthews pick, and not only because my team is the Rockets. I just don’t hear his name anywhere. Why do you think he’ll be so good?
I think Porter and Olynyk are super safe, NBA ready picks. They will both be solid role players. I think Porter can be a 3rd star, and I think when Cleveland fails to trade the pick, they will go with him because it makes the most sense. Olynyk is a serviceable starting C and an above average/solid backup C. I think he goes to the Jazz.

MopgrassParticipantThis article mentions how GM’s are talking about A.J. Matthews:

esperanzafleet69Participantwhat makes you believe that karasev is an upgrade over kyle singler for the pistons, and you have olidipo going the next pick to the timberwolves.
0- Posted on: Thu, 06/27/2013 - 8:09am #807200

MopgrassParticipantI think Oladipo is a tenacious player who can fit in with most any team and can score if they make plays for him.
I think Sergey Karesev is a rock star three point shooter who can score by the boatload while being an excellent team player.
For now, Singler is a very solid bench-type.

DolanCareParticipantIt’s clear you value athleticism. But Kelly Olynyk has no business being close to the second round.

MopgrassParticipantI have several guys who are not athletic going higher than most mocks: Serge Karasev, Mike Muscalla, etc.. Olynyk is the only guy in the draft who is so remarkably not athletic that I don’t think he’ll be able to compete at a basic level, despite excellent scoring skills.

jperk12ParticipantI watched a lot of film too and I say your talent eval is pretty spot on. I agree with the previous poster that Olynyk too low and Larkin too high. Check out my first round mock and tell me what you think: http://truetalentscouting.blogspot.com/2013/06/lottery.html?m=0

MopgrassParticipantI like that you didn’t just regurgitate every other mock draft and that you had Zeller that high. The guy is going to score.

SpacegrassParticipantIf you watched tape on 80 guys and you are not a scout or an NBA draft blogger you need to get a freaking life and a job!

0- Posted on: Thu, 06/27/2013 - 11:43am #807476
SpacegrassParticipantYea and it’s half ass , mostly inaccurate and doesn’t even have the full allotment of players in it. I have spent a grand total of 20 minutes on it. I come here to talk basketball when I can and stand by my initial post.

khoon24You say Dieng isn’t long enough to be a center but he had the second longest reach at the combine behind only Gobert. It was 9’3.5″, and his wingspan is 7’3.5″

rjb241Participantwow Trey Burke at 25????????? did ya watch the tournament?????
0- Posted on: Thu, 06/27/2013 - 1:24pm #807607

MopgrassParticipantYes and he was amazing. Every time he drives, the ball so nearly misses the defender. That type of player always mightily struggles to shoot a good percentage in pros.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantI don’t understand some of your scouting notes, for example:
Jamaal Franklin
Excellent jumper. Doesn’t shoot well enough to be a guard. Jumper is unorthodox and he barely leaves the ground for it. Blockable.
How do you include all of that with “Excellent jumper.”?
