With Klay Thompson hurting his ankle at the end of the Pacers game tonight, and Harrison Barnes apparently out for the Friday Celtics game as well, and Bogut dealing with back spasms, I just have a hunch that the Warriors’ winning streak might just come to an end on Friday. There’s definitely an opening, if the Celtics don’t suffer any more injuries Weds vs the Bulls.

Recall how the Patriots were unbeaten and looking unstoppable until a slow trickle of injuries became a flood with the injury to Gronkowski. The Warriors still have their Tom Brady in Steph Curry, but there’s a real opportunity here for the Celtics to make a little bit more history.

Recall the Celtics only losing by 2 or 3 in San Antonio the other day, and the Celtics nearly beating the Warriors the last time they played last season.

The teams actually have a lot in common, and many people have been calling the Celtics the (young) Warriors of the East.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in being an objective and casual basketball fan, it’s

    NEVER BET AGAINST BRAD STEVENS.

Good eye OP,  I actually was all over this game as well..

The Celtics will give the Warriors a game, nobody seems to mention or notice the Celtics are playing extremely well of recent, look at some of the last 5 games stats.. you’ll notice the Celtics are playing some pretty solid basketball. They rank as one of the best defenses in the league and could be poised for a run. I believe the Celtics give the Warriors a run for their money. They’re currently playing as well as anyone in the league right now, Don’t let their record fool you in their last 5 games statistically they’re one of the strongest teams in the league.

Defensive rating: Celtics 3rd, Warriors 5th

Net rating: Warriors 1st, Celtics 5th

Offensive rating: Warriors 1st, Celtics 11th.

Celtics’ offense is starting to click on all cylinders, great ball movement.

Warriors’ defense suffering with Barnes out, Klay questionable for Friday, and Bogut dealing with back spasms.

Olynyk’s probably the X factor, and Olynyk’s first shot is a big predictor of what kind of game he’ll have.

Celtics are the best in the league at forcing turnovers, and Warriors have a lot of those, so that’s the only way the Celtics can keep this one close. The two teams actually play a very similar style of basketball, so it will be a fun game to watch, but as a die hard Celtic fan I just can’t bring myself to thinking we can beat the Warriors.

They literally do everything we do, except better. Without Smart to check either Steph or Klay either, I just don’t see them having enough defensive push to beat them. I do think it will be a good game though, and the final score will be something like 100-112 Warriors.

It’s hard to imagine any team beating the Warriors right now.  Although realistically some teams will do it, as I don’t see GSW going 82-0.  It’s just that the Ws have to be favorites right now for any game home, or away.  Whoever beats them, and it could be the Cs this Friday, will be considered a big upset.  Even though I would bet heavily that GSW does not go 82-0 for the season, I would absolutely not bet against them for any one game.  It’s too hard to predict who will beat a healthy GSW team.

Celtics are my pick to be runner up in the East.

Depth and a squad with heart and versatility.

Brad Stevens is a top 5 coach.

The fact that celts are better than expected…same as NY so far will likely prove incapable of lasting all season.

I am not buying into boston being a 2nd seed just yet with cavs, heat, and raptors in their way even though they are playing like it early. i wouldn’t be surprised if NY still barely makes the 8th seed ,or likely misses the post season.& Boston should level off around 4-6 range

Just like gsw playing the way they have been as sweet as a story for the nba that it is;is already catching up with them a little bit/ when curry goes down and he will at this pace everything will change on a dime

Celtics played at a 51 game pace the 2nd half of last season.

They’re actually just getting warmed up, record-wise.

Meanwhile, anybody who paid attention to the Bucks awful 2nd half last year knew they were way overrated.

You can go ahead and focus on a totally different Celtics roster one full year ago, and point to their record as a reason why the Celtics are likely to fall off/not get any better, but that doesn’t mean you know what you’re talking about.

Point blank, the key to GSWs success has been the flamethrower 3pt% theyve been shooting in the last 5 games, Golden State last time I checked was shooting 49% from the 3!! GSW is shooting the 3ball better than actual teams FG percentage.. Its ridiculous when you think about it.. The Celtics have been playing extremely well lately and actually do shoot the 3 ball well too, The Celtics just arent nearly as efficient as the Dubs, which means inorder for the Celtics to win this game they will have to force some turnovers to make up for the extra miscues on offense

I think with the Celtics at home, this game will be fun to watch.. Celtics definitely cover the spread here

     This better be on TNT.

The C’s have a great coach who is also young, a looming MEGA PICK in the upcoming draft, and a bunch of young, hungry, relatively cheap players who at the very least are either core guys or rotation guys.

Is Red Aurbach’s ghost running this team?

They are setting up well for the future.

They still need their center piece.  Either through the draft or free agency.  I can actually see them turning it around in the free agency market.  I think New York will be the flashy place to go.  The Warriors are a great landing spot.  The Spurs are good.  The Lakers will ALWAYS be the Lakers but there are no easy answers, even for the Team formerly known as Showtime.  Do guys wanna play with LeBron in Cleveland?  Where is the money, where are the shots?  So those are the top destinations along with Miami since South Beach will always be South Beach.

Boston competes VERY FAVORABLY with everybody else.  Big market, but not HUGE.  Boston loves basketball and the Celtics (when things are going well).  Great FO and coach.  Good town if you have money, and I assume they have plenty of book stores.  Kind of a blue collar town still, even though they got lots of rich people running around and ruining the place for everybody else.  Great spots town.  The Celtics play in a division you can compete in.  Basically a moneyball version of Chicago.

ESPN has a Pelton article up about the Celtics having the best point differential in the East. Given all the "better predictor of future performance than record" and "a 20 game sample" and "ESPN SCHOENE loves them" talk… I don’t know. It’s a game I’d certainly love to see.

after reading your posts, beating the Dubs, sure anybody in the league can beat the Dubs.  But the C"s being East runner ups…having a good core?  No.  Infact they have drafted pretty poor over the past seasons.  I cant name a young player I would dig to see on the Dubs.  Considering the number of lottery picks they"ve had, its not good.

It makes sense. Barbosa and Thompson being game time decisions. Barnes out. GSW is also on the 6th straight road game and already had some close calls. Boston is playing great led by Thomas and Crowder.

Yet my money is still on the Warriors.

Avery Bradley with 12 points in the first 6 minutes. Celtics up 15-10.

If the starters can just stay with Golden State, our bench has a chance to win the game with GSW’s injuries.

James Young looking like the bench x factor we will need with 5 straight points.

    26-25 Warriors after 1.

The OE has probably prevented Boston from taking a lead.

    -7 in 8 mins

    Or

    -30 (per 36min adjusted)

Pretty epic. Game of the year that I’ve seen.

Olynyk Effect on display. Lost by a $liver.
