F_DA_POParticipantaran smith and the "other" draft site both have Dion waiters going #7. One site has Drummond at 8, the other has him at 9. Why the hell do the warriors like Waiters so much? They already have klay and I feel a Drummond/Bogut front court has a lot of potential.

Stojakovicfor3ParticipantApparently, the Warriors, if they draft a SG, would eventually move Klay Thompson to SF, and I guess use a 3 guard lineup.

burningfloodParticipantKlay can’t defend the 3. He’s already mediocre at the 2 on the defensive end, but at least he has a size advantage on his man at 6’7. He’d get eaten alive at the 3, which means either the Warriors are committed to losing with the Curry-Dion-Klay backcourt, or Dion would be the sixth man.
I see it! The Warriors are engaging in a tank job for next year’s draft right now! Top-6 protected, gotta start anointing a tank commander early.

JrbenzCuse23They want to win now and they view Drummond as a project right or wrong. Bogut is mediocre.
0- Posted on: Thu, 06/28/2012 - 8:55am #689651

burningfloodParticipantHealthy Bogut is elite defensively and average offensively. That’s not "mediocre" in a league that doesn’t have many good big men.
Dion is overrated to the extreme at this point. 24 mpg = Dwyane Wade-esque superstar? Sorry, not buying it. Maybe I’m wrong and will have to eat crow in a couple of years, but I see him as a shorter Corey Maggette with a better handle. Not too great of a jumpshooter, good at driving to the basket and getting fouled. Not a good passer; Stuckey, who he gets compared to a lot, is a much better passer. Calls his own number all the time. I really don’t want Bad Pron 2.0…lots of penetration and scoring, but do you really want to watch his lack of defense and watch your team losing?
Drummond has much more potential. Maybe he turns into Kwame Brown or Hasheem Thabeet, but he’s got more tools than they do. If he can learn the game of basketball, he could be scary good. And he’s got a lot of trade potential as well.
Apparently, though, working out once and then ignoring all the other teams is a surefire way of driving up your stock.

JrbenzCuse23I’m not trying to be a d*ck…but I mean his stock rising has been pretty unanimous across all teams…do you think that you know more than them collectively?
0- Posted on: Thu, 06/28/2012 - 9:15am #689663

burningfloodParticipantLots of teams are blowing smoke at this time of year. Waiters is an ok pick at 11-20. In the top 10? Don’t think so.
0- Posted on: Thu, 06/28/2012 - 9:26am #689665
JrbenzCuse23Well the fact that he is going to go top 10 and NBA teams pretty unanimously say he has one of the top 5 ceilings, don’t you think that your opinion might be wrong?
0- Posted on: Thu, 06/28/2012 - 10:22am #689708

burningfloodParticipantNBA teams also unanimously had Wes Johnson as a top 10 pick. So yes, they could be wrong. If GMs are infallible, why are there so many busts?
0- Posted on: Thu, 06/28/2012 - 10:54am #689719
JrbenzCuse23If you made as many picks as they did I’m sure you would have as many or more busts on your resume. I just asked you if you thought you knew more than them. Obviously you believe you do. thats fine. I just doubt, regardless of what you say, that you have seen much of Dion at all.

burningfloodParticipantMy roommate and best friend is a huge Syracuse fan. His dad runs the scoreboard at the Carrier Dome. I’ve seen quite a few Syracuse games, especially last year; I’ve seen Dion enough that I’m impressed with his scoring ability, but I’ve also noticed that he doesn’t do well at all without the ball.

KHAM83ParticipantYou mean Why the hell Aran Smith likes Waiters so much. There are more lies and smokescreens out there than truths. Put very little stock into many of these draft poitions between 5-10 slots.Theres a good chance MKG or Barnes falls to them at #7 who they will much rather have.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/28/2012 - 8:08am #689611
HotSnotParticipantMark my words… Lillard makes a better pro then Waiters. I’m pretty sure Waiters going in the top 10 will get some GM fired. If your a team in the market for the type of game Waiters brings to the table… draft Wroten at the end of the first and teach him to shoot.

F_DA_POParticipantwhy am i negged so much for thinking Drummond is a better prospect for the warriors? SMH bunch of aran smith fan boys…. Not that high on either prospect, but it makes no sense to go with a "3 guard lineup". Mark my words Curry, Waiters and Klay Thompson all starting is not going to be a winner.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/28/2012 - 8:17am #689617
mosdefParticipantas a GS fan the team wants people for now. Waiters would be a 6th man type, which is ironic cuz I think Curry should be a 6th man. There are rumors that Zeller might also be in play at 7 if no one falls
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/28/2012 - 8:19am #689619
aamir543ParticipantI’m sorry but if Drummond is there at 7 I will be screaming at the TV for us to take him. I don’t have a problem with Waiters, not many other options, so that’s fine, but if Drummond is there I want him.
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/28/2012 - 8:22am #689621
AfricanBallerHahhaha you are soooo right. Most people on here are just Aran Smith fanboys who think what he says is golden and to even question him at all makes you a horrible person who knows nothing about basketball. It is ridiculous, causing me to use the forum far less often.
But besides the Aran Smith fanboys, you are completely correct. Drummond would definitley fit their needs better. Marc Jackson needs to accept that the Warriors are not a contender yet.

JrbenzCuse23hence my negative 13000 points there a bunch of zombies on here. Half of my negatives came from talking about how good and high Waiters would go and everyone telling me how stupid I was. I just learn to ignore it they dunno what they speak of.

lalailaParticipantthis is getting out of control the guy who didn’t work out who was a bench player as a sophmore gets drafted higer than player who by far has the second(if not the most)biggest ceiling in the draft
0 - Posted on: Thu, 06/28/2012 - 8:28am #689625

F_DA_POParticipantwhy do they keep looking for win now? Havent they realized taking guys like Udoh isnt helping them get out of the 6th-7th draft spot every year? And GS obviously dont think Bogut is mediocre if they traded Monta ellis for him. If Bogut is healthy hes proven to be a top 5 centers. The health is a big IF though

cycloParticipantThe comments of Jerry West clearly indicate the Warriors will be drafting Dion Waiters if he’s available.
West mentioned drafting a player who has "toughness" and will be "a valuable asset moving forward."
That is Waiters.
Toughness (built like a tank and fearless driving to the hoop).
Valuable asset moving forward (even in a backup role to Klay Thompson).
