gatorheelsParticipant4:00 PM ET ESPN Vanderbilt @ Kentucky
VANDY KENTUCKY
PG- Jermaine Beal 6-3 PG- John Wall 6-4
SG- Brad Tinsley 6-3 SG- Eric Bledsoe 6-1
SF- Jeffery Taylor 6-7 SF- Darius Miller 6-7
PF- Andre Walker 6-7 PF- Patrick Patteson 6-9
C- Andrew Ogilvy 6-11 C- DeMarcus Cousins 6-11
Vandy Bench: Jenkins 6-4, Goulbourne 6-8, Tchiengang 6-9, Ezeli 6-11
Kentucky Bench: Liggins 6-6, Dodson 6-7, Harris 6-7, Stevenson 6-9, Orton 6-10
Matchup to watch: Without a doubt the best matchup to watch this game is Ogilvy vs. Cousins. Personally I feel Ogilvy is overrated as a prospect but I have to give him credit for being a very phsycially imposing player. This will be the biggest physical test Cousins will face in the regular season. It will be interesting to see how Cousins fairs against a player his own weight…& height. Vandy can also bring Ezeli off the bench to matchup with Cousins at times. Ezeli is also the same height & weight as Cousins.
Keep an eye on: Jeffery Taylor. Not a lot of people talk about Taylor but he is a top notch athlete. He just might dunk on somebody this game haha. If he could develop a consistent jumpshot he could be scary good.
Who steps up for Kentucky today: Patrick Patterson. I look for him to bounce back from his relatively poor performance against South Carolina. I think Patterson is going to have a huge game.
Prediction: I think this will be a very competitive game. Kentucky by 11.

JNixonParticipantMy interesting matchup is Wall and Beal. Beal is a solid all-around player from what I’ve seen from him, and shows the ability to be a good defender. I think he could give Wall some trouble at times with his strength, and he’s the same height as Wall just about..

Cousisns has already thrown an elbow. He is constant drama. I got to give it to him, he is pretty entertaining. Pretty sure he looked at Ezeli while heading to the bench & said "I’ll beat your a$$". He was abusing Ogilvy early on, scoring at will.

JNixonParticipantGatorheels, I kid you not. I thought he said the same thing! I knew I wasn’t crazy. And he kept going at him when he was on the sideline.

gatorheelsParticipant^ lol, yeah Cousins likes to run his mouth.
Cousins is absolutely destroying Ogilvy. Now people are finally seeing why I have said for a long time that Ogivly doesn’t even need to be drafted. Ogilvy can’t play in the NBA. Cousisn meanwhile keeps looking better & better as a prospect everytime I watch him play.

hotshotschampParticipantCousins is an absolute terror out there.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 01/30/2010 - 11:44am #251808

JNixonParticipantOgilvy is wayyyy too slow. He reminds me of Luke Nevill from Utah last year, except he’s bigger .

gatorheelsParticipantLeBron James is at this game. It just showed him on TV. Must be scouting to see how him & John Wall would play together if he went to the Nets haha.

JNixonParticipantCousins is looking like Al Jefferson this game…He has very sweet feet and touch.

lalailaParticipantCousins is a beast, he is showing he can play against same sized guys !!!

chrislebronParticipantCOUSINS CAN GO AS HIGH AS NUMBER 2 AFTER WALL
I THINK THE SECOND SPOT IN THE DRAFT IS UP FOR GRABS BETWEEN WHITESIDE,COUSINS AND TURNER0 - Posted on: Sat, 01/30/2010 - 12:24pm #251835
chrislebronParticipantFAVORS WAS SO AND SO TONIGHT AGAINST A BAD TEAM
HE DEFINITELY SHOULD RETURN TO SCHOOL0 - Posted on: Sat, 01/30/2010 - 12:52pm #251845

LeroyJenkinsParticipantwait until they play miss st. to get on the cousins bandwagon people
0 - Posted on: Sat, 01/30/2010 - 12:54pm #251846

JNixonParticipantCousins can’t defend at all though, also a characteristic of Jefferson. He has no fundamentals on that end

Prospect21ParticipantI believe this was a good game. I expected UK to win.
Cousins can be a top 5 pick but not #2 IMO.
Whiteside will and should be a top 5 pick this year

gatorheelsParticipantGatHator- Cousins won’t have a problem with Varnado I promise you. Varnado may block one of his shots, maybe two but Cousins will definitely get the better of that matchup. Varnado can’t guard physical players. JaMychal Green abused Varnado a couple games ago. Cousins is bigger, taller, & better than Green. Expect Cousins to dominate Varnado.
RoseLupe1- Cousins would absolutely destroy Whiteside right now.
Well I was close with my prediction. I picked UK to win by 11, they ended up winning by 13.

Prospect21ParticipantOn offensive? Yes.
Defense? No chance.
Never said Whiteside was the better player anyway. Whiteside probably has ” the upside” predicted by Scouts. I like Cousins but if Whiteside can be “Andrew Bynum” ” Patrick Ewing ( I’m just throwing a name out there)” good…..I’ll take Whiteside.

doubledribblerParticipantThe guy is a beast. I don’t think that Ogilvy is much of a test, but supposedly the guy is one of the better big men in the country. If I was a GM I would be scared of Cousins. The guy has all the talent. He moves well, has nice hands and uses his body well. He doesn’t play defense, but not every team is going to care about that just because there are hardly any decent bigs in the NBA and all low true post scorers are almost extinct. The guy has brawl potential written all over him though. He’s been throwing elbows left and right this year and not the kind that get thrown when someone is protecting the ball. If a coach has to take you out of the game to calm you down that worries me. I’m surprised he didn’t get T’ed up when he was going to the bench mouthing off. They are usually really big on that stuff in the college game.

rtbtParticipantLast year I complained when I saw another over hyped white guy, Andrew Ogilvy, in the first round of the mock NBA draft. The guy is a stiff and I just couldn’t believe he was rated so highly.
I just finished watching the Kentucky-Vanderbilt game where Ogilvy was a complete non-factor with only 2 fields goals and 4 rebounds. He stood around and watched as Kentucky grabbed more than 20 offensive rebounds.
He was outplayed all game by a freshman who repeatedly got position on Ogilvy both offensively and on the boards. It looked as if Ogilvy never learned how to box out or assert himself in terms of fighting for rebounds.
On defense, Ogilvy allowed his man to go to his strong hand with no resistance. A smart player will force his opponent to his weak hand, but Ogilvy apparently never heard of that strategy.
The announcers tried to make it appear as if this was an off game for Ogilvy, but I don’t buy that. Every time I’ve seen him the results were identical, he’s almost always a non-factor in big games. In addition, he doesn’t show any of the attributes a less than athletic player should demonstrate to help make up for a lack of athleticism. Now I’m beginning to think that even late in the 2nd round might be too high for him.

SlimParticipanti thought ogilvy was a shooter last year I couldnt understand why he was rated so high either

quinceyhodgesOgilvy is a case of a player who should have cashed in when he had the chance. he looked much better as a freshman but when you come back to school youre flaws start to show each year in many cases and thats whats happening to him. he was never know as a defense of stopper so him checking cousins wasant a real test. the test were against uconn and unc. kentucky prob wont see any other front line like that and although cousins has improved since then and i think would do much better against either of those the second time around. and dont forget ogilvy was in foul trouble and only played a half and finished with 12 and 4 which isnt bad for a half against kentucky front line so hes not the bum some of ya’ll make him out to be. he did have 24 and 10,11,or 12 against florida. hes not great but he will prob be a second round pick

gatorheelsParticipant^ Quincey- I was at that Florida vs. Vandy game. I can tell you first hand that the stats for that game are misleading. Ogivly scored a lot of points & grabbed a bunch of rebounds but there was a reason for that. Florida’s only defensive big man (Macklin 6-10 240) only played 14 minutes. So..the majority of the game Ogivly 6-11 250 was being guarded by Erik Murphy 6-9 217 & Alex Tyus 6-8 220 & Chandler Parson 6-9 215. It was a total mismatch. I can tell you Ogivly got the majority of his points that game off wide open dunks & easy layups right under the basket. Ogivly didn’t look impressive at all. LIke I said earlier I’ve seen him play in person a bunch of times & he just isn’t nba material.
He shouldn’t be drafted. He would have zero impact in the nba.

quinceyhodgesi didnt say it was a greta game but it was pretty good and i watched as well/ you cant help whos checking you. cousins isnt being guarded bu men his size basiclly ever but i dont hold it against him because hes still going against college big men.
