Ever since Utah traded for the Knicks pick this year I have been thinking about who might fit into their system. I know it depends of what Boozer does, but at the moment I think Wes Johnson or Derrick Favors might be the best options. Anyone have other ideas for their pick?

Personally, I think Cousins.. He would be a physical C that can be a change of pace as opposed to Okur.. Then you wouldnt have to have a 6’9 C in Boozer.. However, they have drafted a C in the past couple drafts and maybe they think one of them is going to pan out.. Other than Cousins, I gotta say Turner or Johnson.

i think favors would make a nice back up behind millsap for the jazz. ..i rather got with wesley though

I think Wes Matthews is not the answer at shooting guard in the future for them. They have stockpiled center prospects in Koufos and Fesenko (sp?), and Millsap would be able to step in with AK47 if Boozer left. I think they should go for Evan Turner if their lottery pick is in the top 5, but I think James Anderson would be another solid pick for that team, I really don’t know why they traded Maynor because a backup pg is another one of their weaknesses, but I don’t think this need can be met in the lottery of this draft.

I’ve been a Jazz fan forever and watch every game. Their biggest, most glaring weakness is the lack of size and athleticism down low, the reason they don’t stand a chance against the likes of LA and Denver. Okur is 6-11, big enough, but he’s incredibly slow and a subpar defender. Boozer has decent size, and is sufficiently athletic, but is a bottom tier defender as far as power forwards are concerned, and next year, they’ll be even smaller with Millsap in Boozer’s stead. The Nuggets are not huge, but Nene, Birdman, and K-Mart are all very athletic and extremely mobile on the defensive end of the floor. Reserves Kosta Koufos and Kyrylo Fesenko, while big and agile, aren’t going to elevate the Jazz to the uppermost echelon.

Cousins would be ideal, but if they’re mired in the 5-8 range, they’ll strongly consider Whiteside (assuming he leaves), Favors, and even Greg Monroe, though any of those guys could slip into the top 4 (except Monroe I guess).

Utah relies on DWill and Boozer for most of their offensive, and lack a reliable scorer. I personally love James Anderson, I think he’s ready to contribute 16-20 points to an NBA team right now, but the Jazz won’t go for him that high. They would love to get their hands on Evan Turner, but he’ll be off the board. I wouldn’t count out Utah going for a home run pick like Xavier Henry.

The Jazz have too many system players, which is why Ronnie Brewer was considered expendable. That’s why they’ll pass on guys like Wes Johnson and Patrick Patterson. They need someone who can fill the role of low post force or dynamic scorer.

whiteside wouldnt be a bad pick. he would be coming of the bench though and he is forsure not a banger so hopefully you dont expect that out of him. and he is kinda raw so you would have to be willing to wait at least 2 years before expecting much out of him offensively

Cousins will not come to the Jazz, he is a head case, and Sloan would have problems coaching him. He will hinder the team’s success. If he was not such a head case I would have different ideas. The best option is Wes Matthews, they can use him as a Small forward. Right now there back up to AK is CJ Miles. 6’5 is too short for a small forward, and besides his potential or lack therof is very small, and almost unnoticeable at times. They seriously need to trade him for a center or power forward. Sloan will love Johnson. Great versatility, and an excellent back up. The jazz have a logjam at guard not forward, like many people seem to think. Other then Johnson I would go with Favors, Monroe, Patterson, Aldrich, Whiteside, or Aminu. If none are available then trade the pick, unless out of some sheer luck, Turner or Wall are still available bu this would be very rare case. Johnson is the bast pick by far, he is their person that they should be coveting.

Can you imagine if the Jazz played Johnson at the 2? Imagine that size…

Johnson’s main weakness is his lack of ball-handling ability, but Kirilenko and D-Will can both create shots for him. Johnson is the shooter/scorer on the wing that the Jazz have been missing over the years. He brings defense, efficiency and character.

BONUS – If the Jazz draft a wing player, we would be more likely to keep Booze.
