WinterSoldierParticipantSo here is my idea for the Jazz. It’s not likely we end up getting Jabari or Wiggins. We want a chance at a star player so the next best chance of being a star is Dante Exum (Other than Embiid). He will likely be picked #3 he doesn’t really fit with Sixers. So this is my trade proposal. It is multiple moves obviously the other teams will decide their interest. I’m not speaking on behalf of any other fan base these only ideas on why it could make sense for both teams.
Move #1
Jazz give 5th(Embiid, Vonleh), 23rd, Alec Burks.
Sixers give 3rd(Dante Exum)
For Jazz it makes sense as we get the guy with a big upside.
For the Sixers they still get Embiid or Vonleh, Alec Burks has gotten better every year and very likely could lead the sixers in scoring.
Move #2
Jazz give Trey Burke.
Bulls give 16th, 19th, Carlos Boozer bad contract.
For the Jazz it makes sense for further asset accumulation for either trades or if they happen to like a player in that area.
For the Bulls they get a back up PG in Burke who can help a team if Rose gets injured. They also get rid of Boozers bad contract so they can sign a big free agent this offseason.
Move #3 This one is contigent on the Bucks drafting Parker.
Jazz give Derrick Favors.
Bucks give Giannis Antetokounmpo.
For the Jazz they get a big need a young developing SF with possible star potential.
For the Bucks they get a young PF/C that would be a good compliment to Jabari. They may decide Jabari/ Greek Freak would be better together.

burgessfourParticipantNot a bad deal for the Sixers, could possibly still get Embiid, but I still think they’ll end up with Wiggins.

SwatLakeCityParticipantJazz should not deal Alec Burks/and or Derrick Favors. END OF DISCUSSION. I don’t care if they get Exum or Parker because of it. Those two players are too valuable to this team. They’ve been in the lottery long enough now. Its time they make the playoffs with this young roster as a 7th or 8th seed. Burks is becoming a bonafide scorer and the Jazz need that. You can’t depend on Hayward to light it up every night. He proved that this year when the Jazz asked him to be their leading scorer. Favors is becoming a rock solid defender in the post. You are going to need that kind of player to make the playoffs especially in the West. And lastly I really don’t like Burke being included a deal either. He’s young, just a rookie and got 3rd place in the ROY race this year. He looks like a young Mike Conley. You don’t see the Grizzlies looking to trade him do you? No, of course not. Burke’s value to this young team can not be measured by what you see on the box score, but by the # of wins he accumulates for the Jazz. Ultimately wins and defense get you to the playoffs not some scrap team built with Exum, Hayward, and Kanter.
I think the Jazz should just stand pat with the 5th, 23rd and 35th picks. They can try and offer up Kanter to move up but if no team bites(which I expect) then just stand pat and get Vonleh, Gordon, Randle or Embiid if he slips. Even Exum could still be available at 5. This draft is gonna be crazy. Not even the top 3 is solidified now that Embiid is injured. The Jazz are almost ready to make the playoffs, they just need some defense. And they can get the players that will provide a ton of defense in this draft without moving up.

WinterSoldierParticipantThe Jazz will not make the playoffs next year no matter who they draft. The west is too competitive and with the Kings, Pelicans, Suns and Mavs all getting better there is almost no chance.

jtthebrickParticipantI think it’s short-sighted to say that Favors and Burks are untouchable. Neither of them has proven themselves to be more than just a good rotational player. I like both of them, but they are exactly the type of players that you should consider in draft day trades.
I don’t like the idea of a core of Hayward, Exum, Burke, and Kanter either. But you have to admit that Exum, his upside, and rookie scale contract for the next 4 years makes him worth more than any player currently on the Jazz roster.
If we were to get Ennis, Napier, or Elfrid Payton at #23, I’d be totally fine with trading away Burke. No one on this roster is untouchable, nor should they be. We have no stars. No one that I think will be more than a 1 or 2 time all-star, if that. And when trading for the most valuable player in any deal, you have to give up a lot.

SwatLakeCityParticipantTrue, I do see the enormous potential in Exum. I wouldn’t say Favors and Burks are untouchable, but the Jazz should consider keeping those two. In the end we got Exum over Vonleh, Gordon and Randle. (I was surprised Gordon went 4th to the Magic. No doubt this pick influenced the Jazz’s pick. Burks and Favors are still valuable players and I would like to keep them both going forward. For now I consider them untouchable unless we get some bonafide offer for one of those two (or both). That could happen somewhere down the line. But for now Burks and Favors are untouchable until a bonafide offer comes up. I still believe in Favors and I think he will be a major anchor for our defense this year. Hopefully some of his defense will latch onto Kanter as well. (who knows defense can be contagious too just like shooting is.) Burks is already a dynamite scorer. We will need that in the future whether those points come off the bench (if he is the Jazz’s 6th man in the future) or in the starting lineup along with Exum, Hayward, Favors, and Kanter. (I think in the end Exum will prove to be better than both Trey and Alec. Therefore Jazz will eventually start Exum. Burke will most likely go to the bench and Exum’s backup in the future. The Jazz can always reinsert Burke into the lineup in the fourth quarter and take out Burks. Burke can still provide that clutch shooting that the Jazz will need in the 4th quarter of close games.) I think a big backcourt of Exum and Burks going forward is lethal, and will frustrate opposing teams for a long time. Burke is still a good player and he was a great pickup via trade last year, but Exum is the better player in the end. Now the Jazz have a lot of depth that is young too in Burke, Burks, Exum, and Hood. (Hood was another great pick by the Jazz at 23.) I love that all year long the Jazz wanted Jabari and in the end we got his college teammate instead! How’s that for suspense?
