Man, we talk about these draft grades, but has anyone really looked at what Utah done the past 12 months?

    • Two cheap first round picks for Al Jefferson
    • Turned D-Will to Favors, Kanter and cap space

Utah has Jefferson, Millsap, Kanter and Favors in the frontcourt and then they got Burks, Harris, Heyward and co in the backcourt. I think Utah has the potential to be a really good team in 2 seasons. Favors could be that post with the jumper while Kanter could be a low post body. Burks has Evan Turner like game, and I believe he will get all the chances to prove he’s a good player. If he isn’t Evan Turner, he can still attack the basket, as well as get to the FT line, which is huge. Utah should miss the playoffs next season then add a point guard in next year’s draft ( someone like Kendall Marshall)

Also, the Jazz can flip Millsap and/or Jefferson. Could you imagine Utah moving Jefferson for another piece and a 2013 1st round pick? Man, imagine this lineup (which is actually possible)

    • Kendall Marshall
    • Alec Burks
    • Gordon Hayward
    • Derrick Favors
    • Enes Kanter

With Millsap and a couple good role players around that? While I don’t want to jinx them, I will quietly watch Utah next season (if we have one) just to see how these young guys do.

I think Utah has did pretty well as far as what they have acquired. I really like the two bigs they have (Kanter & Favors), but now I think they probably need to move a big or two. Luckily for them they have guys that have real value in the league at that position. I think they should have went for a better shooter though or even just a better player than Burks. I’m not high on him and I think there were a lot of better options at the position, but I really think they need a shooter so when Kanter and Favors are in the game they can have some space to work with. I’m curious to see what they do going forward, but for them drafts and trades are the best ways for them to acquire talent.

Utah has went from over night how will we replace deron williams to oh my they actually could be very very good in the next couple of years. They no need a point guard to complete this team but they are solid in terms of potential.

I agree with everything accept the need for a new PG. It would be nice to get a younger franchise point, but Devin Harris has been really underrated A) as a result of carrying the burden of that disgraceful Nets team where he had to take a ton of horrible shots because nobody else could play and B) he was traded for Deron Williams.

I don’t see any rush in needing to replace him: He’s 28 (a prime year), a top defender due to his size/length/quickness, and averaged 18.2 points and 6.2 assists with the Jazz last year. Last year he had a better PER than Rondo (barely, look it up), Felton, Conley, Wall and Holiday — he’s not the stop gap some are making him out to be.

What this team needs is a shooter. C.J. Miles is the best shooter right now and he’s not even very good, and also a free agent (team option). Harris is an awful 3PT shooter for a PG, and Burks is a below average 3PT shooter for an elite SG prospect. If I’m looking to move Al or Millsap to loosen up the frontcourt for Favors and Kanter, I’m probably targeting shooting/combo guards.

Utah is one of the premier organisations in the league. Whenever they make a move, you can be sure they will get plenty and more in return.

G-Man is Utah’s best shooter.  CJ can light it up from time to time but he is way to inconsistent.  Hopefully Okur can come back healthy and stretch the defense even more with his shooting ability. Heck even Millsap can step out and knock down a couple of threes dont believe ask miami.  Plus he has a great mid range jumper. But i agree with the topic Utah can (and probably will) be very dangerous in a couple of years.  Something i look forward to very much.

I think that Burks and Harris can work well together.
Utah had a solid year anyway and it felt like they were within a game or two of the 8th
    seed for the whole year.

I say give Harris a chance as the starting point. Then go after some free agent point guards.
Make a run at JJ Barea. He would be great as a scorer/up-tempo guy off the bench plus he is a
giant killer. If that doesn’t work then Mario Chalmers would be a good piece. Jose Calderon might be
ok or Shannon Brown as more of a combo guard.

I don’t think Houston got better, and the Hornets are fragile, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the
    Jazz make the playoffs.

If the Jazz make the playoffs they will be a very tough team to beat.
I would hate to play them. They remind me of the Grizzlies some when Gay was out.
Some great interior players on offense, solid point guard play to go along with depth and toughness.

I think they need one elite player to really push their whole rebuilding project forward.  Right now they have a bunch of really good talent but they need one guy to rally around.

Do they trade for a Iggy or someone to sure up the SF? Gordon is a nice role player but Iggy can be that Elite player while letting Gordon come off the bench to knock down shots.

He doesn’t sound like he’d be a Utah player. seems like he has too much of an attitide problem.  You know what would have been really scary is if we had all this young talent we have know plus we still had Wesley Matthews? but apparently Raja Bell was a better deal what were they thinking.

The jazz will have anywhere between 0 and 2 1st rounders next year, but no more than that. They sent their own pick to the TWolves in the Jefferson trade, so if they do make the layoffs next season, they won’t have their own pick. Plus, the GS pick is top 6 or 7 protected, so if the Warriors and really bad and the Jazz are a playoff team, the team could have no picks.

im sorry guys. i strongly disagree with you. kanter and burks hasnt played one game yet. gordon haywood is good, but not great. a good role player. derrick favors didnt show me much last year, and i personally dont think he’s going to be as good as everyone thinks. devin harris is ok, but hes not taking a young team like that anywhere soon. however, i hope im wrong and all these players do pan out. but i just dont see it.

First of all props for turning this team around so quickly. People forget that the Jazz were talking about a deep run at the begining of last year with Earl Watson saying it was the best team hed ever played on. and Dwill stating he would make al an all star. But then the season and team went to sh!t for a little and in half a year their future is looking bright. Kanter and Favors are going to develop together and I hope turn into a nasty front court. Also I think this team is a Myck Kabango or Kendall Marshall(perfect Fit) away from completing the rebuilding process. Trade AL for anything that includes a 2012 first rounder. Itll be worth it in terms of getting the two young bigs minutes and in the fact that I would rather have them learn from millsap than from al imo. Also the 2012 draft is going to be sick.

As much as I like Harris he doesn’t seem like an Utah PG…. I do agree with Kendall Marshall being a perfect fit for this team…

But even then as much as I like Gordon Hayward and Alec Burks one of them has to be that scorer that they can depend on for them to take the next step I believe… But I’m not sure if they both possess that kind of attitude they both seem like a team player rather then one to carry a team

Okur’s expiring contract could net Utah something as well… along with CJ Miles, Millsap or Jefferson if they to decide to trade one or two of them … But I don’t see Jefferson wanting to come off the bench or Miles come off teh bench for either Burks or Hayward… Millsap though he was a starter last year I think is a perfect 6th man

@cpoint.jazz8 Speaking as a Piston(if you were Kevin O’Conner), any chance of doing a swap for one of our starting shooting gaurds(Hamilton or Gordon)? The only reason I suggest it is because I’m just seeing something of a logjam at your PF/C positions and a logjam at our gaurd positions. Anyways, there might be something we could do. I actually proposed a deal one time on this site of Okur/Millsap for Gordon/Daye/Maxiell/White. Just wondering.
