ghettosermonParticipantMight as well start a thread for this. Game starts in 10 minutes on ESPN 2.
Rosters:
Blue Team:
PG: Chauncey Billups/Rajon Rondo/Russell Westbrook
SG: OJ Mayo
SF: Rudy Gay
PF: Kevin Love/Jeff Green
C: Brook Lopez/Javale McGeeWhite Team:
PG: Derrick Rose/Stephen Curry
SG: Andre Iguodala/Eric Gordon
SF: Kevin Durant/Gerald Wallace/Danny Granger
PF: Lamar Odom
C: Tyson Chandler0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 4:03pm #362109
ghettosermonParticipantFor the record IMO all 9 players on the white team will make the roster. The 3 from the Blue team I believe will be Billups, Love, and either Westbrook or Brook Lopez. IMO they are fine with just 1 center making the squad and from what I hear they like Chandler best.

kanyedabestParticipantI realize ppl are saying rondo is a liability cuz of his jumper, or lack there of but man the guy has 2 be on the roster
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 4:07pm #362115
BiggysmallsParticipantIt all depends on who can dictate tempo in this game. It would seem to me that the Blue team is going to want to slow things down a bit and pound it inside with Lopez and Love, but at the same time they do have Rondo, Westbrook and Gay who all excell in transition.
If the Blue team can defend, I think they will win, cuz the White team is going to shoot alot of jump shots. They basically have no inside presence to speak of, so if Blue can dictate tempo and force guys into contested jump shots I like their chances.

ghettosermonParticipantAlready we can see how lost Rondo is when he’s not handling the ball, it’s tough to choose a guy who can only play 1 position especially when PG’s are so stacked. Guys like Billups and Curry allow you to add an extra big or wing because they can play either guard spot.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 4:24pm #362136
ghettosermonParticipantIt’s so fun to watch Chandler when he’s healthy, he’s a monster protecting the lane especially with all of these guards flying around. I hope he can stay healthy, he brings a lot more game changing ability than Haywood. I think a good WC’s will really boost him into the season.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 4:25pm #362137
huff09ParticipantI think Rondo is incredibly overrated. No jumper, lazy defense (has high steal stats because of gambling), and not versatile at all on offense. Deffensive strategies against him should be simple; stand 8 ft off him, dont let him get by you and you take him out of the game.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 4:28pm #362142
JNixonParticipant^Easier said than done lol.
Rondo is taking too many risks right now, but you have to defend him. That strategy has been played out for about 2 years now.

gregoden08Participant“Deffensive strategies against him should be simple; stand 8 ft off him, dont let him get by you and you take him out of the game.”
That’s what the Cavs did…How’d that work out?
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 4:39pm #362161
stanford hoopsgotta have billups and curry. rondo over rose because teams shut down all that driving and neither rose nor rondo are shooters but rondo can help on the boards and is a better defender. roses game overall isn’t fit for fiba basketball

ghettosermonParticipantHah I love Javale Mcgee. No one has told him that he doesn’t really belong with these players. I’m expecting a huge improvement for him this year.

stanford hoopshe belong in the scrimmage of course but i wouldnt take him in the game unless i really had to. hes not a half court factor and thats what other teams are gonna make the usa be just like they did on that tim duncan fiba team. dont get excited by a couple highlights

But really, this game is sloppppppppppppy!!!

stanford hoopsrose looks just as lost/oc on offense going to the rack.
one thing im not understanding is why they are playing man????..teams are gonna hit them with a zone all day every day
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 4:47pm #362177
stanford hoopseveryone knows playing off rondo is just as ineffective as playing up on him. play off him and he gets a couple of steps to head start to go past you
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 4:48pm #362178
gregoden08ParticipantFair enough, but you can’t say his defense is lazy…That’s just a stupid statement. He was on the first team all-nba defensive team.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 4:50pm #362180
dipt1982Participantit’s a scrimmage, none of them are giving it there all, look at how many three’s are being chucked up…
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 4:52pm #362181
SteroidParticipantOne of the commentators spoke about how coach K is going to focus more on defense closer to the tourney, but I agree, they should at least be playing a base 2-3 zone because of all the zone they are going to play against..
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 4:53pm #362184
stanford hoopsthis teami dont think they are gonna win the worlds. even before this game i thought that after seeing the roster.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 4:54pm #362185
huff09ParticipantOf course he was on the all nba defensive team, he puts up great defensive numbers. By gambling.

WrecklessParticipantDurant is doing what he does best out there
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 4:58pm #362187
gregoden08ParticipantIverson got a lot of steals…He was never on the all nba defensive team…
Please stop…You honestly are saying a first team nba defender is lazy and was only on it because he got steals? Jeez…
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 4:58pm #362188
stanford hoopshe wa son it becaue hes a good defender. on the ball and getting into the lane
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 5:02pm #362190
gregoden08ParticipantRondo is a terrific defender…No debate at all.

dipt1982ParticipantGay and Mayo loo pretty good tonight…Iggy too…
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 5:06pm #362195
IndianaBasketballParticipantEric Gordon looks great.
Like I’ve been saying all week, I’ll be surprised if he doesn’t make the team.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 5:07pm #362196
stanford hoopsnot impressed by this game not because of some of the sloppy mistakes but because teams arent gonna play us man to man. its gonna be zone and thats the defense the teams should be playing. maybe its because they arent good at it and dont know how to get back into it on transition defense.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 5:08pm #362197
llperezi thought billups might have been the worst looking player out there. Bad shots, bad passes, blown lay up. He just seems to have the body language of a guy who thinks his spot is secure so he dont have to bring it.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 5:09pm #362199
llperezagreed stanfordhoops, this game wont represent fiba much at all. All these break outs and one on one plays against man to man doesnt translate to international comp.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 5:18pm #362205
dipt1982ParticipantNo, it’s nothing like what we’ll see in the FIBA’s. I’ve really been unimpressed with Lopez, Billups and Rondo, J. Green, none of them seem to have a clue what’s going on, except Billups who just isn’t trying very hard. I mean, way too many three pointers from everybody, surprised Lopez hasn’t chucked one yet.
Rondo is so lost when Billups is controlling the ball, it’s a wonder if he will make the cut or not, I think it would be suited better if they go with Rose and Billups.
The defense has to go to zone at some point, I would think!?! Because this scrimmage is helping no one at this point…
Gordon has looked really good, Granger’s nice, and Durant’s just being Durant, a Monster.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 5:18pm #362207
stanford hoopsim not gonna be too hard on them now that i heard the said this game is more for the fans
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 5:21pm #362208
SteroidParticipantWhat’s up with players losing the ball handle too much? I know the game is a bunch of fastbreaking but damn..
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 5:21pm #362210
dipt1982ParticipantThis game has no bearing on what the teams will look or play like in the actual FIBA, but it is a good berometer to see how they mesh together. And so far, the chemistry is non-exsistent, I guess time and practice will change that. Let’s hope at least. I don’t think they will win it though either way.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 5:42pm #362228
stanford hoopsi didnt expect to be impressed by lopez because this is a open gym game.. big men wont get much touch’s unless they rebound.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 5:52pm #362230
ghettosermonParticipantI think they should pick one of Rondo or Westbrook. And one of Mayo and Gordon. IMO Gordon should make it because of his shooting. Mayo is a better defender but if you take a Westbrook it’s not that important. Mayo is the weakest shooting guard on the roster in front of Rondo and his style of driving won’t work in international play.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 6:07pm #362241
dipt1982ParticipantMayo can shoot though…he doesn’t rely on driving to the basket all the time, I think he would fit in fine…
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 6:08pm #362242
llperezi think both mayo and gordon should probably make it, they bring shooting which is important. Is rose a lock in your guys mind?
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 6:12pm #362246
marcusfizer21ParticipantRose is incredible… Hope he stays healthy… I will be surprised if he won’t be able to join the team… Derrick is damn fast!
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 6:15pm #362249
JNixonParticipantRose is too good not to make it. They need him. He’s a pure PG and his speed is crazy, which makes him a big factor in the drive and dish.
0 - Posted on: Sat, 07/24/2010 - 6:28pm #362256
marcusfizer21ParticipantKevin LOve is a warrior… I think he should get a shot at the team… He rebounds like a beast!

BiggysmallsParticipantI agree that Rondo is overrated- he was awesome against Cleveland in a couple of games, but outside of that he wasnt and isnt a top 5 pg in the NBA. He is overrated on defense, being on an all defensive team means absolutley nothing. For goodness sakes look at the All defensive team…its a popularity thing. He’s a decent defender and a good PG, but he’s been overrated…again Rondo lovers, its not a knock on him, just a statement.
I was disapointed with Westbrook and Billups tonight, from what I saw which was the whole 1st half and about half of the 3rd, westbrooks J looked like Shaqs free throws…and on a team with so much athletic guard personel, he doesnt stand out all that much and I think there are alot of guys who can do more along with being solid athletically. Billups looked like he didnt really give a damn, and maybe he doesnt. I would be suprised if he didnt make the team though, because he’s been a really good player for a long time and is a really good floor general that would excell in euro play.
Kevin Love played very nicely, I think he’s been overlooked big time by just about everybody, because I havent seen anybody on TV say “oh yeah I think Kevin Love will be this teams big guy” Its always been Tyson Chandler or Brook Lopez or even Javale Freaking Mcgee…I mean cmon, the guy did great in summer league play, but lets get serious here. What does he do besides throw down alot of dunks? He’s big athletic and can dunk, which isnt really all that valuable on a team stacked with athletic run and jump guys who also bring other things to the table. Love is a good fit for this team, because he can rebound and his outlet passing could ignite some easy scoring oppurtunities that could swing favor in a game. He also can spread the floor with his mid range game, and he isnt a guy who needs plays run for him to be effective. He will do the dirty work.
