gregoden08ParticipantStill don’t understand how Davis is overrated. He’s putting up good stats on a team that can’t shoot the ball and can’t give the ball to him. Averaging 15, 10 and 2.5 blocks. Pretty good to me…Especially with a deep front line.
Also, how is Whtieside underrated? He is talked about quite a bit and this site has him as the number 1 pick next year. He is a great shot blocker, but he is already 2 years older than most freshmen. Also look at the competition. When he played UNC (against Davis I might add) he was helped to single digits and only had a couple rebounds. He has had some great games though. Not taking anything away from the guy. Just saying you might want to lower expectations with Whiteside if you people think he’s going to be the next great big man…He’s not.

JNixonParticipantCraig Brackins is underrated as well. He should be able to provide a relatively high level of offensive production for whichever team drafts him. I see him having a rookie year similar to the one Charlie Villanueva had in 05-06. He’s a very good offensive talent, and even though he returned to school for no reason at all he will make his presence felt on the offensive side of the ball in the NBA

butidonthavemoneyI’m not a huge fan of Brackins, but he is a great passer for a big man. Villanueva is a good comparison. He is would make a GM look smart at a pick between 20-30.

TRC1991Participantpatrick patterson over-rated? im not sure if you’ve ever seen him play but he’s a complete beast…hes reliable in the paint, can score from all over the court, is a winner, and plays hard all game long
yeah so he may be 6’8” but he’s got a solid build and i think he can be the next david west if he works a little bit on his mid-range jumpshot
0 - Posted on: Mon, 02/08/2010 - 12:34am #253833
BiggysmallsParticipantI like that list for the most part. Though I also do question why Whiteside is looked at as underrated when he’s been the topic of mostly any NBA draft talker for the past few weeks. Even more than Wall…I’m not saying he’s gonna take number 1 but he’s been talked about more. I actually think he might be a tad overrated what with the Dwight Howard and Marcus Camby comparisons…lets remember that he 1 plays at Marshal 2 is a freshmen and 3 really isn’t putting up huge numbers. They are good numbers, but 12 ppg 9 rpg and like 4 bpg? Is that jaw dropping? I think the kid is gonna be decent, but how many times does an athletic 7 footer hit the college scene and everybody says he’s the next great big guy…it happens alot. He’s a boom or bust type guy.
I also agree with the Brackins one. He has a nice scoring ability from anywhere on the floor and looks like he could be a solid pick and pop guy in the league. Villanueva was a good comparison.
I don’t think alot of people realize that 6’8 isn’t really undersized anymore at the PF position in the NBA. PF’s don’t have to be 6’10 6’11 anymore. gone are the days of duel bruising post players. The NBA is alot more guard oriented now and is alot of 4 out perimeter play (as much as that pains me cuz I am a post player). I don’t think Patterson will struggle with size as much as people think. Plus his wingspan is like 7’4 and he’s really explosive which neutralizes the height disadvantage.
A couple names I’d like to throw out there for each are Gani Lawal, James Anderson, Kevin Jones and Terrico White for the underrated. And Al Farouq Aminu, Stanley Robinson, Larry Sanders, and Xavier Henry for the overrated. Thoughts??
0 - Posted on: Mon, 02/08/2010 - 5:30am #253839

JNixonParticipantTerrico White entered the season with too much hype. He’s a 1st rounder if he declares because he’s got good upside and offensive skills, but he has to show he can play without the ball in his hands. He’s been slowed down this season because of Ole Miss’s ball-dominant PG Chris Warren. He’s got the tools to be an instant impact player in the NBA, but he’d have to be a spot-up shooter and transition player.
I think Hassan Whiteside is overrated honestly. He’s physically gifted, but he’s also very weak and unpolished. He would get killed down low in the NBA with his lack of strength. He has to polish his skills and get sstronger before he plays in the L…

BiggysmallsParticipantI’ve seen Terrico White comparisons to OJ Mayo, which I actually think is pretty solid. He has been going through a transition with Warren always having the ball in his hands (which i think is a mistake by the Ole Miss coaching staff), but he has shown an improvement in his outside shot and he’s got good offensive skills. I think if he comes out this year, he’ll go top 20 but if he comes out next year I don’t think top 10 would be out of the question.
I agree that Whiteside is overrated. It seems like every athletic 7 footer is compared to Dwight Howard nowadays…Dwight Howard is arguably the best C in the NBA…thats alot to live up to for a 19 or 20 year old kid. It just seems like people jump on the bandwagon hardcore with this kid after a solid half of a season of college basketball in the conference USA.
Apparently people didn’t like what I said…was it the thing on Whiteside? the Overrated Underrated? Feedback would be cool.

Prospect21ParticipantI have to disagree with Whiteside being overrated. He’s putting up decent numbers. I believe he should come out this year because he’s already 20 years old…
Yea, he’s somewhat raw but you put him in a system to grow for 2 seasons- you wont be sorry.
Also- not for nothing, who did Greg Oden play in college that was a surpreme big man? He got killed by Noah the 1st time around and even when he had a 25-12 game for the title, he still got played by Horford and Noah.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 02/08/2010 - 10:14am #253904

lalailaParticipantUnderrated: Damion James-even in the NCAA, not just in mocks
Henry and Cousins were super underrated before the season(late 1st round) but now they get their love
and I think Stephenson should be 1st rounder.
oh yeah Greg Monroe should be here alsoOverrated: Wesley I like him in Espn and DX.com as top5-10 pick but #2 or #3 looks to high for almost 23yrs old guy who still looks a little raw.
Derrick Favors he could be good but there is big question, too big to be top3 pick imo0 - Posted on: Mon, 02/08/2010 - 11:27am #253930
quinceyhodgesim not sure how cole is overrated. no one expects him to come in the nba and dominate or be very very good from day one
0 - Posted on: Mon, 02/08/2010 - 11:50am #253936

JNixonParticipantI do expect Aldrich to be good as soon as he steps in the NBA..He is the most NBA-ready big man in this draft IMO.

Prospect21ParticipantMikenike- You know Paul George wont be in the 2010 NBA draft right? He needs another season. Terrico White as well IMO
Alabi is underrated. He’s still a lottery projection by many sites

Michael.S.ParticipantYou know Paul George wont be in the 2010 NBA draft right?
Haha, what, did he tell you?
0 - Posted on: Mon, 02/08/2010 - 1:02pm #253966

Evan_MilbergParticipantOverrated:
Larry Sanders – I’m not just saying this because I’m a George Mason student, but because I just don’t see the hype. He plays in the CAA against inferior competition (VCU is currently 4th in CAA), and the one tough game VCU had (against Oklahoma), he was average. He’s still really thin, and in order to play in the NBA he would need to add at least 20 pounds of muscle. Don’t let the numbers fool you. He is NOT a lottery pick. Is he worthy of a first round pick? Perhaps, but 12th overall? C’mon!
Michael Washington – First round pick? Really? The guy puts up 13 and 6 on an average-at-best Arkansas team that probably won’t make the tournament.
Underrated:
Jarvis Varnado – 5 blocks per game to go along with averaging a double double. This guy is a defensive stalwart that teams desperately need at the next level. How someone like Michael Washington is projected in the first round and this guy isn’t shocks me.
Scottie Reynolds – NBADraft.net has this guy LAST overall in their last mock. Wow. The leader of the one of the best teams in the country is only worth a late second round pick? Now I understand his APG doesn’t jump out at you and he’s a tad undersized, but he’s very fundamentally sound and an experienced leader. I think he’s worth at least a late first-round pick.

willie wise fanParticipantyeah i think devan downey is underrated he might be a good player in the future
0 - Posted on: Mon, 02/08/2010 - 1:36pm #253973

JoeWolf1I don’t know there are a lot of people on this guy’s bandwagon, but I think Hassan Whiteside is overrated. I really think he is a cross between Larry Sanders ( with his length and unpolished, but not completely terrible face up game ) and Jarvis Varanado’s shot blocking. People have talked about this guy being a top 5 pick in this years draft, but truth of the matter he got in foul trouble and really got outplayed by Jerome Jordan who is a decent late 1st to early 2nd round pick, but far from a lottery pick. He still has a lot of potential, and could be the next great defensive center, but as of now, I don’t think he has proved enough to deserve the hype he has been getting lately.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 02/08/2010 - 1:38pm #253974
Prospect21ParticipantI love how a lottery pick cannot be outplayed. Come on now.
He’s a potential good C. The word potential can move a player from the mid 1st to lotto easily. We seen it before…
0 - Posted on: Mon, 02/08/2010 - 1:47pm #253976

JoeWolf1You have to question a player’s NBA readyness when a player not regarded as high a caliber player gets the best of him. Especially when he plays for a small conference team that doesn’t see NBA talent very often. It doesn’t negate his potential, I know that, but the past couple weeks people have been piling on his band wagon thus making him overrated in my opinion. He hasn’t proved to me atleast what I think it takes to be a top 5 pick aside from the infamous “potential” word.
0 - Posted on: Mon, 02/08/2010 - 3:24pm #253998
BiggysmallsParticipantThats the thing…Potential gets thrown around way to often. I haven’t seen alot of Whiteside’s game, but it seems like alot of 7 footers have potential. Just because they are 7 feet tall, long and athletic it automatically means they have potential? I just don’t get why. Its the same with Favors. I havent seen anything from Favors to warrent a top 3 pick.
This is exactly why bad teams in the NBA stay bad and good teams stay good. Teams waste top picks on players with loads of potential only to see them never live up to it, while good teams get players who can actually play.
The Greg Oden argument is laughable…Oden dominated college basketball in a better conference than Whiteside…But what has he done in the NBA to warrent the number 1 pick? I realize that injuries have played a part in it, but nonetheless, he hasn’t been very good when healthy.
POTENTIAL. its overrated big time. So few players ever actually reach their potential.

UKWildcat_11ParticipantGreg Oden led the league in blocked shots before he re-injured himself
0 - Posted on: Mon, 02/08/2010 - 4:24pm #254020
quinceyhodgesi think he eventually moved down to second in blocks and was surpassed by howard. as far as cole i agree iggy but i said super star, very good player from day one in nba.

powerguard97ParticipantGreg Monroe
Luke Harangody
Sherron Collins
Scottie ReynoldsAll underated and all good players…i dont understand why Greg Monroe isnt in the top 5 of this mock draft. Sherron Collins is a Ty Lawson type player. Scottie Reynolds is a high quality scoring point guard who is nothing but a winner. Luke Harangody is underated because he has had success but other then that he reminds me of Mark Madsen.

butidonthavemoneyThat last sentence is clearly the result of tranquilizers and moonshine. Congratulations on your fun night.

lalailaParticipantI told you about Damion James, he looks like typical SF with fast points guard’s athletic abilities BUT he was better big man than Cole Pittman and every other big guy last night!! if same age Wesley could be top3 then he should be not even lottery but top10 easily.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 02/09/2010 - 5:09am #254091

lalailaParticipantthis is because of my bad english or because of the fact about Wesley-James???
first of all i tried to say that i’m not high on Wes he should be somewhere between 7-10 pick then i would agree that James is late lottery pick(but still should be in the lottery he is just too good)
0 - Posted on: Tue, 02/09/2010 - 6:36am #254111

butidonthavemoneyApologies. It was directed toward your English I guess. I knew you said something about Wesley Johnson but I couldn’t make it out.
Anyway, Johnson should be around 5-10. I like Damion James too. I always have, I was a big fan last season. He has more potential than people give him credit for. I don’t see him becoming an all-star, but he is remarkably agile. He has a big, strong body, and is a grand leaper. He has everything teams would look for athletically. He is passionate and works hard on the court. He has improving range, a great mid-range game and is a tremendous finisher in transition.
In my opinion, James deserves to be drafted between 10 and 20. But he has some time to raise his stock, and it starts with his team’s play.
0 - Posted on: Tue, 02/09/2010 - 6:47am #254115

butidonthavemoneyWow, I have never heard anyone say that Evan Turner is overrated. I would like to hear your reasoning for this.
I don’t think it is fair to say Warren plays with zero heart and effort. I think of him as a play-breaker. It’s like if he touches the ball, the movement stops. He can create for others using his tight handle but I can’t see him becoming a cog in a machine. He wouldn’t even see the floor on a team like San Antonio or Utah. He has intriguing drive-and-dish ability, finishing ability and a beautiful (although inconsistant) shooting stroke. His sucess in the NBA will depend on several factors; the team that picks him, his teammates’ confidence in him, and the role his coach gives him.
