Who for you guys are the players that impressed you the most this SL but have not gotten much attention? Either because they are not those high-profile rookies/sophomores or people simply don’t know them? Here are some of mine:

Dwight Powell- Man this guy can BALL. He was always that player in college who we know had the talent but really couldn’t put it all together. This SL, he has shown immense improvement in his game and in his confidence as a player. Maybe that’s just playing with Dirk and Chandler all year. He plays a bit like Draymond Green and I think he could excel at that role going forward. Great shot, handle, vision and strength. Watch out for this guy.

Sean Kilpatrick- He and Rashad Vaugh have ben the only scorers of the Bucks SL team and they have been impressive. Sean for one has a veeeery sweet and quick stroke that every time he puts it up you think its going in. A bit undersized but he’s not a bad defender at all. Could be that Gary Neal type of player for teams, coming off the bench and running through screens to get some extra points. I will not be surprised if he gets an invite let alone make a team this season.

James Mcadoo- What ever happened to this guy? He was like a top 3 prospect coming out of high school, was projected a lottery pick sometime during his college tenure and now he’s undrafted? It may be a blessing in disguise for him though with him being part of a championship team and ganing valuable experience. He has been nice this SL. Finishes around the hoop well with either hand, rebounding well and showing a nice stroke. HOpe he sticks with the Warriors next season and gets some burn at least with D. Lee out of the rotation.

 Other than Jahlil Okafor, Scottie has been the best player on the court for the Sixer’s summer league team. I hope he gets a few invites, 

Despite being a little undersized, he plays good on ball defense and his outside jumpshot singlehandedly spaced the floor so that Jahlil Okafor could perform at a high level.

Kyle Anderson played great as well. I think the Summer League sort of helped, but hurt him as well.

During KA’s first season at UCLA and also during his first season with the Spurs, he wasn’t a major player. Meaning that he wasn’t ball domaint. During both his sophomore year at UCLA and this Summer League, he became ball-domaint and looked great. Will he ever get the chance to be ball domaint with the Spurs’ second unit?

Yea, didn’t know Wilbekin was such a knockdown shooter from 3 though. AND he plays tough defense. Could be a solid backup for a playoff team if given a chance.

 Powell is no where near the defender Draymond Green is, which is what Green’s calling card is. As a Mavs fan, I love Powell’s improvements over this summer, but he has played nothing like Draymond, and apart from being versatile on offense, I don’t think there are similarities to be drawn between the two.

Well then saying that, you give similarties between the two: that they are both versatile on offense. Of course I’m not saying he’s better than Draymond, and I compared the 2’s offensive game, not their defensive. I said Powell could play a role similar to Draymond’s being, as you said, that they are both versatile on offense.

 Powell could handle the ball and shoot threes as well as pass, and would be very effective in handoff situations with guards like what Draymond does with Curry. Defensively, sure, they are not alike, with Draymond having more edge and strength to his game. But Powell can improve on that since he’s no toothpick either, and has decent quickness, I’m saying Powel’s versatility could be valuable for some teams searching for a Draymond Green on offense, someone who could strecth the floor and pass the ball.

But Powell hasn’t been shooting well from deep, he had one good night of 3-7, and a 4-12 night, but apart from that he’s been shooting a lot of them, and they haven’t been falling. I’m encouraged by his confidence and his form looks good, but he’s a whiles away from even being at Draymond Green capability of shooting, who is average at best in his own right. Dwight has been unspectacular passing the ball, the 4 games I watched(I missed the Lakers game) the ball wasn’t getting stuck with him, but he didn’t seem to have a great feel for moving the ball either. He hasn;t been great in handoffs, which can be contributed to the fact Summer League is a guard dominated league and Kevin Pangos is the only Mav guard that made an effort to move the ball, and the few handoff situations that he’s been placed in. Yes, he is capable of taking bigger guys off the dribble somewhat(not to the same degree Green can), and he can stretch the floor some(though he’s yet to show he can consistently hit the 3), he has not shown any where near the same IQ that Green has, which is the biggest attribute Green, his intangible toughness and IQ, and those missing intangibles were what stopped Dwight from really breaking out at Stanford.

Just because they both share the attribute of being versatile doesn’t mean that they play similarly. They are versatile in different senses. Dwight is a competent shooter from mid range, and in a few years he will hopefully, as a Dallas fan, be at least a 30% shooter from deep, but he isn’t the ball handler or passer Green is and I don’t see him slicing up defenses and hitting shooters off drives the way in which Green does, he just doesn’t have the same foot speed.

On a lighter note, anyone else remember when this site had Dwight the number one projected pick in the 2010 mock draft? A funny time indeed

 He looked very good in the one mavs game I saw. He has a beautiful stroke, especially when he gets his feet set and has outstanding athleticism. He even made some plays off the dribble, which was his perceived weakness going into the draft. He looks like he might be able to contribute immediately, and I could see him getting mins right off the bat with the injuries to Parsons and Matthews.

 Maurice Ndour PF for the NY Knicks Summer League squad. Also, has a nice game. He impressed alot of people with his energy also that beautiful mid-range jumpshot he has. He destroyed the Sixers and won that game for the Knicks. He’ll definitely earn a spot somewhere.

kevon looney has played well in his last 3 games….after struggling in his sl debut….im still puzzled as to why he lasted until the 30th pick.. greg whittington the former georgetown hoyas who is on the heat sl team,has played better than expected..i wouldnt be surprise to see him on a nba roster this fall..

Every time I look up who did what a day in Summer League ,he has 20 something points, and scoring isn’t even supposed to be his main strength. I’m telling you, he’s a player…. Well, I saw every highlight I could find of Rashad Vaughn and he looks good. Getting shots up coming off screens, using the p/r, or in the break, he can shoot it however. Feels comfortable with his floaters.

He projects as the much needed shooter the Bucks need.
