TarHeelRavenParticipantI think it’s the greatest rivalry in college basketball and all of sports and it’s not even close. (Perhaps I’m a little biased). Tomorrow night’s game should be another classic. I can’t remember there ever being a game with Duke and UNC having such contrasting styles of play. Duke strokes the three and I think they have like 5 guys around 40 percent from deep. UNC takes and makes the least amount of threes in the country, or close to it. UNC wants to pound the ball inside and dominate the interior. Duke is weak inside although Amile Jefferson has been playing well of late and even Marshall Plumlee has been giving them good minutes. UNC has been playing very well lately and has been playing with much more intensity and urgency. They don’t have the talent this year like they did in 05 and 09 to coast and be able to just out talent other teams. Duke is the strong favorite on paper because they have more talent. If Carolina can play with passion, limit Duke’s three point attack and grab lots of offensive rebounds, they have a chance to pull off the upset.

CameronCrazy11ParticipantI completely agree with you. I’m probably biased too, but I just don’t think there is a rivalry in college basketball that is more intense and has a better history of classic match-ups than Duke-UNC. This season will indeed be very interesting due to the contrasting styles. I think Jabari Parker will have another big game as it seems he has broken out of that midseason slump he was going through in January. The match-up I’m anxious to see is Quinn Cook vs. Marcus Paige.

TarHeelRavenParticipantI think Mcadoo will start on Parker. He has turned into a pretty good defender. I think he can slow Parker down some with his strength and athleticism. I think if Parker guards Mcadoo it would be a bad matchup for him. He’s not quick enough laterally to defend Mac off the bounce.

samosasParticipantGreatest rivalry in all of sports? It takes real fans to make a great rivalary. Not students who need a committee to write obnoxious chants for them (Dook) and not a fan base that the coach has to call out for leaving games early/selling their tickets (UNC). Historically you can’t argue they’re both great teams, but there’s more to rivalry than two old hunky dory 65 year old white guys aww shuckings-ing after a game. UNC and Dook like each other too much.

M-EazyParticipantThis game doesn’t have the hype that it did in the 90’s – early 2000’s. Most people in ACC country are anticipating Syracuse vs Duke round 2 more than this game.

ncballerAgree to a certain extent. If UNC had PJ Hairston and Reggie Bullock back this would be another clash of top 10 teams.
Next years game though everyone should tune in. I see two top 5 teams.
Berry vs. Jones
Paige vs. Cook
Jackson vs. Sulamon
McAdoo vs. Jefferson
Meeks vs. Okafor
Benches:
Britt
Pinson
Tokoto
Johnson
Jamesvs.
Jones
Allen
Winslow
Olejeye

LindseyParticipantAll of sports? The families of those killed during the Rangers-Celtic rivalries in Scotland would PROBABLY agree with you. Probably.

Sewok15ParticipantI’ll take the team with more than one guy who can shoot the ball. I would love to see UNC win but I just don’t see it happening…they really miss those wings.

4ngetnmoreDUKEParticipantWhen it comes to Duke and North Carolina everyone from both sides and involved can throw records rankings talent out the window, thats what makes this game between these two teams great. For one game the players play for the name on the front of there jerseys. Even into there pro careers this is every players favorite game ever. Everyone shows max amount of passion desire and heart. On several occasions one team has has more talent a better record and top ranking and went down. The year Capel hit the buzzer beater it went to OT and really nobody on Duke did much and UNC was stacked. And ppl who say its the greatest rivalry ever are mistaken. Every sport every level men or woman have a rivalry that brings out the best. For this level in mens bball its the greatest ine by far. And ppl who say we like eachother lol well…..your wrong. I hate UNC more than anyone but college hoops are better and the game is better when UNC is good. For the most part they run the programs right graduate guys and improve them as players and men. And its about class tradition and then its about winning which is why theyre successful. Tomorrows game has contrasting styles Duke has two guys in Hood and Parker who will dominate cause of lack of perimter size and lack of spped with big guys and UNC has size and strength. For Duke i think Parker has a huge game, for UNC I think Meeks plays very well. The X factors are Amile Jefferson containing the rebound advantage UNC will have and for UNC its JP Tokoto being able to handle bigger perimeter offensively dynamite guys like Hood and Parker cause he will be on one of them. Either way its another great chapter and another example of why sports are great…..especially this rivalry its what brings the best out of each guy. Go Dukies!!!
