RUN TMCParticipantDoes this lose tonight take away their #1 seed? I personally believe the Pac 12 winner should be getting a bit more consideration for a #1 now that UNC and Kansas have been knocked out of their conference tourny.

BasterdInABasketParticipantKansas, Nova, Gonzaga would be the ones for sure I’d think. Last spot going to the PAC 12 winner, Arizona, UCLA or Oregon. UNC would maybe have a shot at a 1 if Cal won it somehow.

TarHeelRavenParticipantIt’s going to be close in my opinion if Carolina will get a 1 seed. Justin Jackson was pretty horrific shooting the ball in Brooklyn and Luke Kennard showed why he should’ve won player of the year in the ACC over him. Joel Berry picking up his 4th foul with 15 left absolutely destoyed Carolina. Duke owned Carolina at that point and even as Duke made their run, Roy contiuned to keep Berry on the bench and have Nate Britt, who isn’t a D1 player in my opinion on the court. That decision alone could cost Carolina a 1 seed.

Memphis MadnessParticipantIf UCLA wins the tournament then I think they get a 1 seed.
Messes with the brackets though, since I bet they would have liked to have gone with Gonzaga as a 1 seed out west with UCLA, Arizona, or Oregon as a 2 seed out West. So, the top 3 seeds out West would be Gonzaga plus 2 Pac-10 teams. I think the 3rd best Pac-10 team would be in the Midwest or something — I don’t think they like Sweet 16 matchups being from the same conference.
Gonzaga is still a one seed even though they didn’t go undefeated. UCLA would be a really strong 2 seed if they win out.
I will bet that Gonzaga will be the fourth overall 1 seed out West, UCLA as the top overall 2 seed. Arizona or Oregon will be the third seed. So, Gonzaga plays the winner of the top Pac-10 teams in the Elite 8 with a chance to go to the Final Four.
I would have the 3rd Pac-10 team as a 2 or a 3 in the Midwest (Kansas bracket?). Villanova gets the East #1 seed. Gonzaga gets the West #1. UNC, Duke, or Kentucky get the 1 and 2 seeds in the South. May have to drive back to Memphis for the South Regionals…
Even though I would LOVE to see a Duke vs. Kentucky championship game at some point, I hope they put ‘Nova, Duke, UNC, and Kentucky on one side of the bracket with Gonzaga, Kansas, UCLA, Oregon, Arizona, and SMU on the other side of the bracket.
Midwest: Kansas 1, SMU 2, 3rd place Pac-10 team 3, runner-up big 12 team 4, with Baylor and Arkansas between 5 and 8. Maybe Baylor-Arkansas in the 7-10 game with a Big 12 team at 8 and a strong Cinderalla team at 9. Wichita State at 6 against the winner of a play-in game. What about the winner of an underachieving super power game between Michigan State and Syracuse.
Out West, what about that LOADED top part of the bracket with a potential dynamite team in the 8 spot? Like Florida Gulf Coast or something against, say, Georgia Tech or some other blah Power Conference school? FGC vs. Gonzaga would be an interesting 2nd round matchup…
I think that is where I would put the potential sleeper teams. In the 8 seeds. Get them against a strong team in the first round and turn them into potential giant killers in the 2nd round. You could also put the sleeper candidates in the 7-10 games.
You know what? Give me Michigan State vs. Syracuse in an 8-9 matchup. Two HEAVY HITTERS. Make the winner play Villanova. If ‘Nova wants to repeat then they gotta run the gauntlet!
