    Tyreke Evans sued in Delco

    By Mari A. Schaefer
    INQUIRER STAFF WRITER

Tyreke Evans, the Sacramento Kings’ rookie point guard, and his cousin are among four men who have been named in a wrongful-death civil suit filed in Delaware County.

The family of Marcus Reason, who was killed by Jamar Evans, Tyreke’s cousin, in November 2007 in a drive-by shooting, is asking for a judgment in excess of $50,000.

In January 2009, Jamar Evans pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and weapons offenses. He was sentenced to nine to 20 years for murder and other weapons charges. He also received eight years of probation.

Jamar Evans was 16 when he pulled a gun and fired from the passenger side of a Ford Expedition driven by Tyreke Evans. Reason, a Chester Township resident, died after being shot in the chest. A month later, Jamar Evans turned himself in. Police suspect the incident might have been gang-related.

No gun was ever found with Reason. There was no evidence he ever fired a gun, according to prosecutors.

At the time of the shooting, the two Evans cousins and two friends, Rasheen Blackwell and Dwayne Davis, had just finished watching a football game and were leaving a house in the 1500 block of Rainer Road in Chester Township. They were headed to eat fresh-baked pie at Tyreke Evans’ home.

Tyreke Evans drove off immediately after the gunfire. He was not charged in the crime, and police said he cooperated in their investigation.

Reason was working two jobs – as a cook and for a limousine company – and had plans to go to school, his family said.

Are you kidding?? Most lawsuits are settled out of court…I think he has a lot more money and a lot more desire to settle now than he ever has…
Everyone is just trying to get theirs. It may have merit, but he cooperated in the investigation and he was never charged with any wrongdoing.
They are only seeking 50k from what I hear. My guess is this gets handled quickly

I remembered when this happened..He was either a junior or senior in HS. I thought he’d have to serve jail time, but he hasn’t. I completely forgot about this whole incident. $50,000 isn’t bad at all for what they could be asking for, so I think Tyreke should just pay and move on with life. Tough situation..and I agree, his life has pretty much done a 180 since then. I’m sure he’s grown up..

this is sad that a young man lost his life because of a stupid-decision…i dont know tyreke so i cant judge him but him not getting in trouble for this incident can be solely blamed on his stardom he’s achieved as a basketball player…if that were me driving that car, id be lookin at 5 years in the pen

Nope, he loses a TON of respect from me. I never heard of this until now and, WOW. He was an accomplist to a murderer…Probably gang-related they said and I believe it…He was driving with a guy with a gun, 1st dumb mistake. He was hanging out with a gang banger, 2nd dumb mistake…He was probably part of the gang…3rd dumb mistake….He was a part of the murder, because Im sure he knew what was gonna happen and he was fine with it and he went through with it…Horrible

from what i read, tyreke didn’t know his cousin had a gun but he heard the gun shot and drove away because he was scared. I think it is pretty clear that regardless of the circumstances, if you are driving the get away car in a drive by, then you should just pay up. He did something wrong, and 50k is not a lot of money for him.

I’m with you on this one Mikenike. I’m not a fan of Evans so to speak, but I do think he’s a great player. With that said it seems like he knew exactly what happened and still involved himself in the situation….He loses respect from me

I happen to know a lot of people that let someone ride with them and did not know what their intentions were until too late. This happens a lot and Evans was blessed that he did not get jail time but to be sued for 50 k for no reason and this late. That is weak. That should not get nothing. They need to sue his cuz not Tyreke.

The Plaintiff is probably on a come-up, they saw Tyreke ballin and went to work in order to get paid. This lawsuit shouldn’t hurt Reke but this is just another casualty, in my communities, that must stop.
