AdamJCallejaParticipantWhat happend to this guy? I remember watching him shutting down his rookie season, but now there are times where I completely forget he’s in the league. I know the Pelicans weren’t too good last year so I didn’t get to see him play at all. Any Kings or Pelican fans that can tell me what this guy’s missing? After winning rookie of the year, I honestly thought he was going to be an all star or at least establish himself as one of the better guards in the league.

Lebron’s HairlineParticipantHis game is centered around him having the ball in his hands almost every possession. He has struggled to adjust playing more off the ball as his usage went down his stats also did. He’s still a very solid player IMO

festar35ParticipantHe was the 2nd best player in N.O this past season and I think this season will reveal a lot about the direction his game will go.
I 100% believe he could still be a great 2nd option next to Davis. If he and Holiday can share the ball without issues then I feel he could have close to an All-Star year. An outside shot would be useful, but ultimately I just think he needs to commit to the defensive end of the floor more and learn to let the offence come to him.
If N.O can move Gordon, they will have a great trio in Davis, Evans and Holiday to build around. He is still young and appeared to make strides last year the Pelicans just need to start winning.

IndianaBasketballParticipantTyreke Evans played well last season after Jrue Holiday was injured because he was able to dominate the ball and basically play point guard. Before that, he was really struggling and Monty Williams struggled using him.
Evans isn’t a point guard or shooting guard… He’s just a ball dominant guard with limited vision/passing skills. He has gaping holes in his game and provides zero spacing. I see a problem with him and Holiday co-existing. Holiday is a decent shooter, but he’s also best with the ball in his hands and is a better decision maker (which is saying something since I don’t think Holiday is a great decision maker). Evans can really get to the basket after he stops dancing with the ball and becomes decisive, but he’s an extremely poor man’s early Cleveland days LeBron James. Evans has a "hero ball" style of game, but isn’t good enough to be that type of player and his team win games.
A lot of people want Eric Gordon traded, but he’s the best shooter on the team now with Anthony Morrow’s departure and Ryan Anderson’s health in question, plus Gordon has no issues playing without the ball.

Pistol Pete. The PelicanParticipantI’m a Pelicans fan, last year was just like the rest of Tyreke’s career. "The Tale of Two Tyreke’s". You have the Tyreke Evans with the ball and Tyreke Evans without. The first half of the season he was horrible, couldn’t play off the ball, he was also coming off of the bench. when Jrue Holiday got injured and even more when Evan Gordon got injured again Tyreke Evans went crazy because he was starting and had the ball. As a starter (22 games), Tyreke Evans averaged 19.9 points, 6.3 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals while shooting 49.6% from the field.
Tyreke, The Brow, and Austin Rivers actually made a pretty good "little 3" when everyone was injured, around late March, they all started playing really well. Tyreke and AD on the 2 man game was amazing.
I have hope that Jrue can play off of the ball and let Tyreke do his thing, because Tyreke opened up so many threes with the ball in his hand, and he found AD a lot also. Tyreke is who he is. You give him the ball and he is a near all star, you take it away, he’s an inconsistent role player. He can be a great second option to AD though, and actually shot 33% from three as a starter, not great, but with his drive game it’s good enough.

UnbiasedObserverParticipantNot to mention he has a very shaky jump shot, and that’s being generous. His form is horrendous. When he was at his best in Sac he was clearly the number one option and always had the ball in his hands almost all the time.

Hector_Reyes_8ParticipantIt’s a problem with many young players that dominated the game before coming into the league. They’re great with the ball, but terrible without it. Tyreke was always big enough and quick enough to go through or by any defenders growing up, so much so that he was compared to LeBron in high school (saw it in a movie that featured him and other eventual NBA draftees such as B-Easy, Bayless, and Singler). The problem is, they were so good at getting to the rim that they never needed to take jumpshots. John Wall is a notable example, but he’s improved a lot since his rookie year. Wall’s form was never as bad as Tyreke’s, though.
I don’t think there has ever been a ROY winner that wasn’t given a contract extension by his team. I also think that him coming into a franchise that was a literal wasteland didn’t help him. The Kings of old were horrible at developing talent, and still sort-of are. I want Tyreke to come back and play well, but playing alongside Holiday and Gordon makes that difficult because they’re all such great ball-heavy players.0 - Posted on: Tue, 08/19/2014 - 3:42pm #945661

gbmantisParticipantWould it make sense to play Evans at the point and trade Jrue for a 3 and D SF? Let Evans thrive running the offense and surround him with shooters at the 2 and 3 spots? The Pelicans have a lot of talent but the talent doesn’t mesh well and they have serious floor spacing issues.
Better lineup (??)
Evans
Gordon
Small Forward
Davis
Asik6th man Anderson
Not sure what the market for Holiday is, lots of teams have good starting point guards already. Maybe Kings would trade Rudy Gay for him?

benny15Participanti wouldnt do that. i honestly like what the pelicans are trying to do with this team. they’re pegging it after the spurs and feel that they have the talent in their players, just have to mold and hone it into the team philosophy. as far as what i see, this is how they are breaking down the roles of their top players with that of the Spurs:
Anthony Davis: he is their tim duncan. dominant on both ends of the court and will have the entire defensive system built around him. those expectations may be extremely high but the brow’s ability right now is immense as well plus he got the ability and talent to live up to it.
Jrue Holiday: i believe they see him as their Tony Parker. very fast point guard whose a better slasher than he is a shooter, although still stable enough on the latter. his physical tools are actually better than parkers and if his mental game gets to parker’s level, then we might see the next great defensive point guard of the league. think jason kidd or gary payton level.
Tyreke Evans: i do think they feel he is their Manu Ginobili. not a true point nor a traditional shooting guard. he’s a play maker, meaning he makes plays with the ball in his hands. weather thats looking to score or do a drive and dish, his abilities with the ball are very good. coming off the bench would also give his team a very potent scorer and pace changer. could he be a starter and be effective? yeah. but the team wont be as good as him coming off the bench. well, theoretically that is.
Eric Gordon: honestly we all know that gordon is over paid. more so in the role the pelicans have for him. but if we look past his salary, he can actually be an ideal player to the team’s system. i believe they see him as their Michael Finley or Brent Barry type player. his role would be to serve as the 3rd scorer of the team thats on the floor. thats either next to Davis and Holiday, Davis and Evans, or Evans and Holiday. he will consistently be the 3rd opt who can score. now do they really need to overpay someone to fill this role? no. but i do think they just dint want to loose him as an asset for nothing and thought they could flip him when needed.
Ryan Anderson: no i dont think he’ll be their matt bonner, but more of their Robert Horry. Horry was such a solid addition next to Duncan due to his ability to give him so much space to work with in the post. his natural feel for spacing on the court would be so good for davis to work the post. it would be a tremendous help though if he can get his defense to horry’s level who was known for his post d as much as his clutch shooting.

King CaluchaParticipantYou’re right. Tyreke is like Manu, except Manu was always a great shooter. Also, Manu is a terrific passer, which means drive-and-dish isn’t his only option. Smh…

benny15Participanti agree. manu is also a better defender. i wasnt really saying that tyreke is in the same caliber of player as manu. im saying he has the simillar role of being the playmaker off the bench. none of the pelican players are actually at the level of the spurs counterpart i mentioned. but the roles they have are simillar and thats where the comparisons realy lay in.
