 I don’t have an article to confirm it but it’s being reported by Adrian Wojnarowski, Hoopshype, and many other reliable sources that Denver is sending Ty Lawson to Houston for Kostas Papanikolaou, Pablo Prigioni, Joey Dorsey, Nick Johnson, and a protected 1st round pick.

I like this trade for both sides. Lawson has been able to thrive when put in a winning situation and adds even more fire power to an already very good Rocket team. Houston didn’t really have to give up too much immediate help for this trade either. Pretty obvious but Houston is going all in for that title run.

Denver is now able to start their rebuild and hand the reigns over to Emmanuel Mudiay. I’d love to see them get Skal Labissiere in the 2016 draft.

The West is now scary deep too. Quite possibly 6 teams (Warriors, Spurs, Clippers, Grizzlies, Thunder, Rockets) all have legitimate title shots now. Can’t ever remember a time where a conference was this deep at the top.

Good trade for both sides but not really though. Lawson is a very good PG. I’d say a step away from being elite and a likely all-star Cali ur player. Denver should have gotten more for him but mismanaged him and ended up waiting until his value was ruined instead of pulling the trigger when his value was higher.

Either way at least they got some good prospects from a good o organization from a development perspective. Kostas and Nick are both solid players now with good upside.

seeing Lawson finally beeing moved to a CONTENDER(!) really makes things a lot more interesting. The West is incredibly loaded now with up to 6 teams. I hope he stays healthy (ankles etc.) and he gets his time now to move over his situation at the moment. It’s easy to blame him for his actions lately but maybe he really needs help and was in a personal situation where he had other serious problems. 

If Lawson stays out of trouble and healthy, the Rockets for sure should be considered contenders. They still managed to keep Motie and still haven’t used the much rumored move of Terrence Jones many thought would/will go through. They still need better backup interior bigs but the standings prediction in the west is almost impossible to predict right now. 

I can both see conference standings with multiple teams beeing > 67 wins or better in the west and teams with 55 wins having a tough time having a playoff seed as well as A LOT of teams making it 55 – 59/60 games with teams like the Jazz, T-Wolves, Pelicans or Kings at least want to win some more games and injuries will always be there for any team. A late stretch 5-5 closing out the season could cost you everything.

So many people saying Houston still isn’t a contender is weird to me. They made it to the conference finals despite injuries to their starting PG and PF. Now they get both of them back and add a very good PG and people are saying they still aren’t a conteder. 

Meanwhile everyone thinks Memphis is a contender despite the fact that they haven’t been out of the semi-finals in two years, didn’t really get better in the offseason (swapped Koufos for Wright and added a washed-up Barnes), Randolph and Tony Allen are 34 next year and will probably get worse, yet they are seen as the better team.

The Spurs and Clippers got better.  The Rockets got better.  The Thunder will be better if they are healthy.  The Warriors traded David Lee (which I think will hurt a bit), but they are still loaded and have James McAdoo and Kevon Looney to sop up some minutes at backup power forward.

For the Griz?  Likely second round out.  Could lose in the first round.  If EVERYTHING goes right, yeah, we could go to the Finals but you could say that about the West’s Top 6.

For the Nuggets: They won’t win much but they should be fun to watch.  They now have two of my former ex-Tigers in Will Barton and Joey Dorsey.  Mudiay, Will, Gallo, Faried, and Nurkic with Dorsey off the bench gives you some high octane basketball (if one of these guys can hit a shot).  They could conceivably be better than the Lakers if things go wrong in LA and right in Denver.  If Minny can’t figure out if they are a perimeter team with Wiggins, Lavine, and Rubio, or a big man team with Big KAT and Pek then they might not improve as much as some think.
