The Timberwolves going into the random drawing had an opportunity for either the 16th, 17th or 18th pick and ended up with the last one.  Does anyone else feel like the Twolves have awful luck when it comes to the tie-breaker drawings.  I just remember in the 2007 draft we lost the tie breaker to Portland and then they ended up with the first pick out of their selection of balls.  Anyway I’m excited either way about having a pick this year as it seems like a deep draft.

 They only need a shooting guard, and SGs aren’t that hard to come by.

Even if they did get that low, they still have plenty of options, like Austin Rivers, Dion Waiters, and Terrence Ross. It’s not the end of the world.

There are still going to be plenty of options at 18, there really is no reason to be too disappointed since we didn’t even know we were going to get that pick for sure until early last week. They will have a choice between atleast one of: Terrence Ross (ideal), Dion Waiters(just as ideal), Doron Lamb, John Jenkins, maybe Rivers (Who I don’t think is the answer but can play, just a taller jj barea) at that pick, and IMO there are some real steals at SG they could grab with their second pick late in the second round (Kim English, Will Barton, Bradford Burgess, Kevin Murphy, Alex Young could be around still, atleast one of them will be).. But what it comes down to is that Whoever it is, I think it must be a slashing type of scorer, they have Beasley, Love, Ridnour (sometimes Ellington, Williams and Webster) which can all light it up from downtown very very well, but they have Pek dominating the area under the rim, English, Barton, Burgess, Murphy and Young can all be effective in that mid-range role. Anyone who comes in must be able to slash and be a real midrange threat and be able to create both with and without the ball. I heard Tyreke is on the block right now.. and if they have to move the pick to get him I wouldn’t be dissappointed at all.

terrence ross would be a good fit, but i would take the best player avaialble or maybe even trade the pick to get a veteran on the team who can be a main contributer ala doug christie. as far as addressing their need of a starting shooting guard, id much rather see the wolves try and sign Courtney Lee, Ray Allen or Landry Fields

Ray’s actually a pretty good idea there, Benny.  This is a young team that could learn a lot from that guy’s work ethic and professionalism.  Of course, they could take a young guy as a backup to Ray since Ellington is the only true 2 on the roster.

At this point in his career I can’t see Ray Allen signing with anyone that isn’t a contender, even though he could really help the Wolves a lot.

i see your point, but if i were ray allen, i wouldnt mind at all. I’ve already won my ring. as much as I’d like to win another one and add to my collection, I also want to be playing regular minutes and be more than a role player. i still want to be one of the main guys. its not like allen is playing like Michael Finley was in the same age. Allen brings leadership, scoring, a veteran presence, clutch shooting, experience and professionalism to the t-wolves. in exchange for all that, Minny could offer him more money than what others would want to give him, a major role with the team off and on the court, a starting spot and a chance to lead one of the more promising young teams in the league. thats a very good package and combination if you ask me. and if allen wants to go ring chasing just for the hell of getting another one, he can do it when his abilities diminish and religated as a spot 3 point shooter ala steve kerr.

I deffinitely think it’s a good idea, and would be a good move for both him & the Wolves. I’m just not sure he would actually do it, I don’t think he’s greedy and more money won’t be much of a factor in his decision.

fair enough. i dont think money would be the main reason, but it could tilt his choice if he’s on the fence on signing with them. minny’s sales pitch would be his role on the club which i think could seperate them from other teams. i mean, nobody needs a veteran leader as much as minny does thats as promising as them.
