I don’t like Smart being at 12. I think that is way too low for him. I understand why he is there but I disagree with your reasoning. I think he should instead go at 6 to the Celtics. The Celtics may already have Rondo and they do like him no doubt about that. But there is new order in Boston. KG, Pierce and Allen are gone, and have been traded or have signed elsewhere. Rondo was part of the old Celtics (KG, Pierce and Allen). Now that a new Celtics is coming into place they need a new PG. No, I don’t think Rondo will leave immediately, but I do expect him to leave with 1 or 2 years. In which Smart can be properly tutored by Rondo and coaching staff. He can come off the bench his rookie and probably sophmore years, and then hopefully by his 3rd year in the league Rondo will be traded or sign with another team and Smart can be inserted into the starting lineup as the point guard.

If the Celtics do not select Smart even though he is available and instead go with a 4 like you have suggested then there will be a log jam at that position as they already have Green, Sullinger, and Olynyk that all play the 4. By your thoughts they would now have a 4th option at the 4, consequently Vonleh wouldn’t get enough time to play and develop. Yes, they need a big man, but they need someone who is more defensive then offensive. What they need is Embiid, unfortunately he will probably not be available at 6 so I think they should instead address a different position of need (PG/SG) and let the Center spot wait until next year when they can select Okafor, Turner, or Tarzewski.

they need a SG, and if the draft were to shake out in the order it is in my mock, I would think they’d trade down.  I don’t really like projecting trades, so if they’re picking there, I doubt they’d reach on Gary Harris.  Vonleh is a good defender, and is big enough to play C alongside Sullinger.  Smart would definitely be the pick if they unload Rondo though, won’t argue with that.

a lot of frontcourt options, but Williams, Thompson, etc. really aren’t starter quality players.  Gordon has much higher upside, and it really looks like Thomas will be back.  No SGs worth taking at #7.

Sorry dude but Marcus Smart is a top 5 talent. Clearly you have not seen him play and everything he can do offensively and defensively. His spot at #4 on the mock on here is exactly where it should be. Hes not the best shooter but he can do just about everything else at a very high level…

plenty.  He can’t shoot worth a damn.  He’s a top five pick in any draft but this one.

I will give you a thumbs up for the time and effort that you put into your draft even if I don’t agree with everything but I like that you state why you put people where you did. And for the most part I like it. Wish more people would recognize the time people put into these and not just neg everything just because they disagree

And I don’t have any problem with people criticizing, just rather they did it constructively and don’t waste my time.

…but some of your comparisons are so far off. Embiid = Howard?? Yes Embiid is fairly atheltic but that’s where it ends. Embiid is basically the opposite of Howard as a prospect; Howard was all size, athelticism and shot blocking while Embiid has those qualities to a degree but is more vaunted for his advanced feel, postgame and foot-work.

Randle = ZBo is also a silly one which just picked up speed early and everyone jumped on board. Randle is a brute but agan that’s as far as it goes. His quickness, face-up game, shooting range and preference to play with only one hand make him much more like Beasley (college Beasley, not saying he’ll bust at all).

Zach Randolph’s shot chart from last season:

      vorped.com/bball/index.php/player/shotchart/1074-Zach-Randolph/season/2012-2013-REG

Julius Randle’s shot chart through 13 games this season:

      http://www.kyforward.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/shot-chart-complete.png

If anything, Randle takes a much higher frequency of his shots at the rim.  Also, not sure I see any type of college Beasley in there when college Beasley hit 36 threes at a 38% clip.

I agree he’s farther along than Howard was with his back to the basket than when D12 entered the league.  Not sure I can agree he has advanced feel, footwork or an advanced post game.  Flashes of one, yes.  But in Embiid’s scouting video, he lists "Offensive Polish" as his first weakness.

I actually think you did pretty good job. I think Marcus Smart is a lock to go in top 10. Even if a team doesn’t necessarily need a point guard, he’s good enough I could see a team in the 7-10 rangerpick him just because of how good he is
