According to the Turkish media, Besiktas could be close to sign Allen Iverson for the upcoming season. The former NBA star, one-time MVP, would have reached an agreement on the economic terms with the Turkish club. Both parts could be now negotiating the last details of the contract that would bring Iverson for the first time to Europe.

I guess he will be the new Turkish Michael Jordan?  No?

    Oh, come on A.I!

    You know better than that!

If I were him, I would rather retire than play in Turkey. That’s nothing against Turkey but scoring 30 points a night in Europe wouldn’t tell enough about what he accomplished in his carrier. It would diminish his legacy to a certain extend. He would be rememberd as the legend who didn’t know when to quit.

For some reason,i don’t see Iverson playing a full season overseas..He doesn’t have the Temperment for those customs..If he butts heads with authority figures in the NBA,what makes you think he’ll listen to people he feels are inferior to him? Iverson going over there would be like Lil Wayne going to a All White Girl Catholic School,In a few months something will come from it…

yadski^^not takin anythin away from A.I, but Philly has made the playoffs twice since he has left, and denver wasnt "beaten twice by the eventual champion" when he was there, and even if it did is was in the first round so thats not sayin anything. that’s like sayin the hawks of 2008 were good cause they lost to boston (while they had only like 37 wins)

yeah except denver was a 50 win team both times with iverson… those were the years where spots 2-8 were decided by a stretch of 2 games in the west..

i personally think his experience with detroit ruined his career (not to mention bad arthritis in his knees)… a new coach michael curry coaching somebody like iverson just doesnt work… and joe dumars should have saw that before he made the deal…

in memphis however, i can totally agree that he should have been starting over mike conley.. conley sucks and is a decent backup at best..

im not saying on those teams he would have put up his stats with denver (28pts,7ast,and2stl) but something around the area of 20pts and 5 assists is right in the realm of expectations…  and given a fair opprotunity on an nba team today i think he would put up numbers similar to that.

He’s not good anymore. I give him cred for going overseas to soak up the final years of his career and getting money and such but I saw him play, he didn’t belong in the NBA.

He looked like a old boxer that everyone loved who couldn’t beat the young guys. He looked out of shape, a couple steps slower and just odd in the new game today. The League is different then it was in 2001.

I hope Iverson plays well overseas

Philly made the playoffs in 07-08 and 08-09.  I realized A.I has an amazing fan base, and had a fantastic HOF career, but this isn’t the same A.I. that was leading the league in scoring and willing a subpar team to the finals.  This is the A.I. who averaged 14 ppg for a 27 win season, after being traded by a team he refused to come off the bench for and before quitting the season to address personal issues.

Turkey would be great for Iverson.  He could still be a more relevant player he desires and make good money playing basketball, because lets face it NO NBA team is going to take a chance on him this year.  It’s the preseason and teams didn’t even give him a camp invite or anything.
