As a pelicans fan must admit the last week has been hell for me. It started against the celtics when Ryan Anderson left the game on a stretcher with a herniated disk, then came the news Jrue Holiday is out indefinitely with a stress fracture and then tonight Tyreke Evens left the game because of his ankle. I also heard news Eric Gordon is back on the trade block ( although that’s a good thing IMHO). Anthony Davis remains the lone brightspot here but it can’t be up to him to win games with our terrible bench.

Its beginning to look like we’ll be finishing 5-10 worst with our pick going to phillie

They should have been patient instead of trying to make the playoffs right away in the loaded western conference. Trade Gordon, Tyreke and try to build around Holiday and Davis.

Man, I was super stoked for the Block Party when they drafted Nerlens Noel.  I don’t think the trade was a bad thing, the signing of Tyreke Evans was though.

Holiday is a young All-Star and so is Davis, that’s a nice core, along with Ryan Anderson.  Of course, the big contract for Eric Gordon is tough to take.

If they can find a way to trade Eric Gordon for a 3 or picks and keep Tyreke at the 2, they can still be a very good team in the future while staying competitive right now.

Had they traded Gordon for Deng and Anderson for Asik and picks, their line-up would look like this

      • Omer Asik
      • Anthony Davis
      • Luol Deng
      • Tyreke Evans
      • Jrue Holiday

3 All-Stars as well as two defensive minded veterans that have had playoff success before.

I don’t think Chicago would’ve ever traded Deng for Gordon, they wanted cap flexibility, Gordon contract would’ve put them in the position to pay the luxury tax forever.

By the way I’m not sure how good that lineup would’ve been, especially on offense, major spacing issues, only Holiday is a reliable shooter, Davis is having a breakout year playing next to bigs with a jumper, like Anderson, who plays constantly out of the 3 point line, or Smith, who’s a very good midrange shooter, so that they can have the paint open for the Brow or for drivers. I’m afraid he would have to take more mid range jumpers than necessary playing with Asik and he would have less chances for lobs and alley oops than he has now.

On the other hand it has to be said that that lineup would have an incredible potential on D and they could kinda make up for their offensive struggles shutting down their opponents.

I’d still give a shot to this team, especially if they can keep their first round pick. Probably it was too much of a gamble putting such a weak protection on that pick, but while everybody expected the west to be great, nobody could foresee teams like Phoenix being a playoff contender and Portland being one of the best teams in the conference. They were funny as hell when they had the chance to play together. Ok, they didn’t play defense at all, but they were a scoring machine, especially with the Holiday-Gordon-Evans-Anderson-Davis lineup (they scored a ridicolous 123.5 points per 100 possession with that lineup: insane!). Until few weeks ago they had like the 6th or 7th most efficient offense, they just were flat out terrible on D. If they manage somehow to find a way to be at least average on D they are a playoff team (obviously not this year), though it’s not that easy considering that one of the keys of their offense is Ryan Anderson spreading the floor and it’s tough to put together a solid defense with him on the floor unless you have Roy Hibbert or Dwight Howard at his peak. But if Davis can grow as a rim protector it might work, so I wouldn’t give up yet.

What’s going on with Ajinca? His production along with his minutes so far have been extremely inconsistent.

Thought he turned it around a bit when he went back to France, but I guess all he’s doing is not playing on the perimeter but instead doing nothing hanging around the key.

As a Philly fan I like it.  I’d love for that pick to be 7-10 and not 15-20.  I’ll be panicked the rest of the year hoping they don’t sink to the bottom 5.  Will be tough with us, the Bucks, Magic, Jazz, Celtics, Lakers etc also with a brick tied to their legs
