nath09ParticipantI tried to find out with no success what the league record for triple doubles in 1 season is.
I’m refering to the league as whole not an individual record.
Surely it is on its way to being obliterated. I can never remember such a massive amount of triple doubles. It’s been such a remarkable season on so many levels.

The GoatParticipantI think I just read somewhere the leag ue record is in the 70s for total triple doubles, back in 88 or 89. The pace this season projects a total of high 90s.. currently late 50s… ? Jokic got a big one today. I’ll post again if I find the article.

EspressoParticipantAfter thinking and trying to figure out why is it that so many triple doubles are being put up, specially by shorter (PG-SGs) players and more specifically players who push the fastbreak. I have came up with a possible theory, aside from their natural rebounding ability, they are in a position to succedd. The league has headed to uptempo offenses, which are particular for running lots of fast breaks, given the case, big man need to run up and the court constantly, which is why small ball is so popular and teams are using less and less offensive rebounding as it sacrifices fast break defense.
A bigman gets a rebound, they hand it to the PG who then takes off for a fast break, possibly leaving the bigman who rebounded the ball out of the play as he will still be running down the court.
In the other hand, If the bigmen of a team see a shot about to clank of the rim and no one is there to grab the offensive rebound as a result of the other team getting back on D, the bigmen might as well just let the PG-SG (or anyone that will be pushing the fastbreak) get the rebound, and they can run the floor and set up the offense.
I dont know if I explained myself correctly. If anyone is confused and actually cares about what im trying saying, just let me know and I’ll try to clarify.
I tried to make it as short as possible. I feel like I can write an article on this topic.

PhillySteveParticipantWestbrook is having a season for the ages and fun to watch, but the coverage is getting hyperbolic.
Wilt and probably The Big O had more individually dominant seasons that would have included more 3×2’s.
As a matter of fact, based on the games that Wilt’s blocks were recorded, he may have AVERAGED a 4X2 in 1966-’67.
In the 113 games when blocks were recorded, he averaged 8.8
Not trying to take anything away from Westbrook, just get annoyed when a sportsperson uses terms like unprecedented, most dominant, witnessing something weve never seen, etc.
I have jpg with game by game but cant figure out how to add to the text.

MatosParticipantNot taking away from Wilt but he did play in an era with 10-12 teams and there was not as many elite stars he competed with day in and day out compared to today (obviously excluding Bill Russell and few others).
