After looking at all the tape of Trey Lyles, I wonder why no one is projecting him closer to the top of the draft. He’s huge and has all the skills that the League’s recent evolution rewards. And he’s 19. For me, some of the players listed before him have more obvious flaws. Okafor’s free throw percentage. Russell’s size and speed. And don’t get me started on Porzingis. Mudiay or Towns I can see being the best player in this draft at some point but why not Lyles?

portis is a better prospect at the pf position and yet because lyles was highly recruited at kentucky, despite not getting utilized at his position, or actually because he wasnt he is getting a lot of overvalued rankings. lyles is a late first talent trying to ride the calipari wave into the late lottery.

    no thanks

I would  take turner, portis, porzingas in the lottery or trade down for Harrell or Looney …heck i’d even pass on lyles and take ashton pankey or jonathan holmes in the 2nd before i would waste a lottery pick on a prospect with no more of a resume than Jarell Martin or Christian Wood who are  fringe 1st rounders.

Did you whatch him play this season?  Absolutley nothing but a 15ft jumper popped out to me.  He can’t bang he can’t board and he has a false post up game that ends in a face up jumper. All I see is end of rotation/bust. I see him falling somewhere outside the lottery.

I think Lyles is a solid prosepct and projects well into the Nba. I like him as a lottery/Top 10 pick. He is well rounded and has a chance to be a solid pro. People knock him for his athleticism, quickness, post moves, and defense all being ok/good but nothing special. Defintiely some concerns and limited upside to be taken #2 Overall

You don’t realize how long Lyles is until you see him dunk. He barley gets any lift but can flush lobs because of his massive arms. 7’4 wingspan.

He measured out with a 7’1.5 wingspan at the NBA Draft Combine. The 7’4 measurement is wrong.

But you don’t have him near the top in your own mocks, why?

I’d take Portis any day before Lyles. Portis is more polished as a 4 and has a high-motor. Lyles is too laid back and doesn’t play hard. Need guys that are going to play hard. Lyles does have a lot of upside if he can get it together one day. To his credit he does possess rare agility for a guy his size. Has perimeter skills in a 6’10 body. Portis is the safer pick of the two.

I understand the intrigue for him but I didn’t like him all season. Always seemed to be making crucial mistakes throughout game, although he did win them the Texas A&M game with an offensive rebound to draw contract and hit two game-saving free throws.

Also, a lot of people like to point out that he was only bad on defense since he was guarding small forwards but the Georgia game showed him getting either back down in the post or getting beat off the dribble by both their bigs in Djurisic and Thornton. Always had trouble trying to grab defensive rebounds too and I don’t think he has enough explosion to utilize his face-up drive game with his handles. Doesn’t have three-point range too.

I  hope my Jazz  get Turner but if he is gone I hope they take Lyles,  very talented, good size, not a great athlete but very solid, good basketball IQ, versatile, unselfish, helps his team win.

He looks pretty average to me.  Average across the boards physically. Length, quickness, strength, agility, etc. Nothing stands out.  Because of those physical attributes he doesn’t project to be an above average defender.  He doesn’t have the motor or toughness to make up for that either.  Rebound rate was below average and he was never known as a monster rebounder at the lower levels.  He’s not a post up player currently and I don’t think he projects to be one.

His redeeming quality is that he’s a pretty good shooter so he does have PnP and face up potential. Besides that, I don’t see anything all that interesting.

he is a very talented player but anything in the top 7 is just to much of a reach for him,

also in interviews he is comming across as boared and uninterested, never a good idea when you go to a job interview.
