kg_2_kpParticipantI know everybody is still high off Kentucky this afternoon and with good reason because those boys looked scary! I dont wanna keep on the UK train and yadda, yadda but the one kid who impressed me the most last night despite a relative lack of hype with was Trey Lyles, the freshman forward from the White platoon. I know he was highly regarded coming outta H.S. but he’s rarely mentioned as a one-and-done candidate despite being a big-time recruit (#6 ESPN) and playing for the big blue nation. At 6’10”, 235 he’s playing exclusively at the SF spot and looked very comfortable out on the floor. Offensively he has nice footwork, good body control and he’s very smooth and fluid with and without the ball. Knocked down a pretty pull-up jumper from mid-range off the dribble and handled the ball better than I thought he would. Defensively he looked good chasiing Kansas guards Wayne Selden, Kelly Oubre, Svi Mykhailiuk and Brannen Greene out on the perimeter even though lateral quickness was billed as a weakness of his. Crashed the board aggressively too. I know Karl-Anthony Towns is getting most of the early hype and deservedly so, but I think Lyles is just as good a player/prospect and should be mentioned in the lottery discussion as well. What do you guys think?

PistonsFan22ParticipantI love Lyles’ game. He can do so many things well and he’s very polished. I also like Ullis a lot. Those two I felt were going to end up as two of Kentuckys top 5 by tourney time and I still believe that. Obviously Towns is a monster. I hadn’t watched much of Towns in high school but he is very, very impressive. Overall this entire freshman class even beyond Kentucky is shaping up to be incredibly impressive. I’m a diehard wolverines fan and I love Kameron Chatman already. Seems to be more polished players as freshman in this class from what I’m seeing but it’s early. Pretty exciting for college basketball fans though, lots of good players to watch. Domantas Sabonis, on Gonzaga, was another guy I’ve seen this year that I had never watched and he looks incredible.

RUDEBOY_Participant1 of the many freshmen i’ve been impressed so far…chris mccollough ,grayson allen ,theo pinson isnt scoring that much, but he’s shown the ability to contribute in so many different areas…
back to lyles ,i know alot of people compare him to boozer..but i think he’s more versatile…trey has better playmaking and shooting skills..reminds me of marques johnson….

PistonsFan22ParticipantI really thought he was an impressive player when watching film of his high school games. Going to have to catch a North Carolina game soon.
You hit the nail on the head with Lyles. He’s so versatile and fundamentally sound. He even looked very comfortable playing the 3. I also like his defensive potential more than I liked Boozers defensive potential.

Chilbert arenasParticipantIf he had gone to a school which didn’t have 4 other all-american forwards not to mention the 7ft starting center I think he’d be getting much more attention. I think this little platoon system is going to affect Lyles the most, but will keep him under the radar enough that he can develop his game and body another year and find himself in the lottery next year.
