He is having the best season of his career and has been absolutely on fire as of late. He dropped a career-high 40 points against the 76ers last night on 8 threes and hit 10 threes in a game earlier this season as well. Ariza is averaging 15 ppg, 6 rpg and 2 spg to go along with 42% from three point range on six attempts per game. He always plays excellent defense as well and has been the main reason the Wizards have been a top ten defensive team this year.

Might he be in line to get paid (again) this offseason? ESPN currently thinks he will command a MLE, but IMO he has certaintly outperformed a player like Rudy Gay (27) who is one-dimensional and only scores a bit better than Ariza (28)- based on this year’s stats. ESPN seems to think Gay will get somewhere in the 10 million dollar range per year….. Ariza is more likely to command something similar to his first deal, maybe 5 years and 35-40 million a year IMO…..

I think this is his peak year, he is a one dimensional offensive player, the epitome of a 3 and D player. He isnt going to provide much more then dunks on breaks and 3’s. He isnt a guy you wont to pay more then 5 mil a year, he is at best a 4th option on a championship team.

I think the worst career move he made was to get greedy and leave Los Angeles. He was the young, athletic wing they needed at the 3 to help Kobe, but they signed MWP instead. While they did win another championship with Metta, it was a short-sighted move and I think Ariza was the better fit. From Ariza’s perspective he was taken out of his comfort zone and had a few dark years.

As far as next season, I think he should re-sign with the Wizards, but MLE is sounding about right. He’s still way too inconsistent and he’s benefiting enormously from John Wall creating opportunities for him.

The Wizards also have Martell Webster waiting to take his place while Porter catches up to the NBA game.

Minnesota might actually be a good fit for Ariza; he gives them a wing who can both shoot and defend, instead of one or the other, and Rubio would help him get good looks.

It will all come down to how he performs in the playoffs for Washington. He’s the only guy on their roster with a ring if I recall correctly, so his experience would be invaluable.

I’m pretty certain the Wizards already have signed Webster for the MLE as well.

I agree that Ariza has been playing well this year for his caliber of player, but he is definitely not outperforming Rudy Gay.

Rudy is on a terrible team, but he avg 21pts on 50% from the field, 85 ft%, 35 3pt%, with 6rbs and 3assts.

LOL yeah Gay is shooting .500 in the 30+ games since he has moved to the Kings, but he is the definition of a one-dimensional player IMO. Gay’s .500 from the field is an outlier during a career in which he has shot just .450 from the field on average. Ariza offers more value to a team because he shoots better from the perimeter and plays better defense.

Rudy is unfortunately one of the most overrated players in the league. There is nothing he does in his game that  I consider to be "elite," yet he got a max deal that IMO crippled Memphis’ ability to go out and get players that could have helped them even more.

I’m not trying to bash him, I have just always felt that in terms of raw ability and athleticism he should have taken that next step that Paul George has taken many years ago….. He is right up there with the best of the best in terms of overall athleticism and has never utilized it to the best of his ability.

I wonder what team will overpay him in the offseason if he declines his option and tests the market?

Trevor Ariza has been on fire recently perhaps as it is contract year. He’s coming off a nice deal, Washington have the cap spaceto  resign both him and Gortat but with them having Martell Webster under contract until 2016 and Otto Porter to try and develop can they justify paying Ariza the sort of salary he’d want.

If Ariza does move on then he’d get a lot of offers from teams looking for a complimentary starting SF or an experienced main 6th man from the bench. I was surprised that Trevor is still only 28 years old as he has been around the NBA a decade. I’d figure he’ll have no trouble getting a decent deal maybe between $5 and $6 million a year on a 3 year deal would be his market value IMO.

Hes a really solid all around small forward and hes finally hitting shots. Hes always been an above average defender, solid rebounder/passer hes just never been able to consistently score with or without the ball. This year hes become a legit 3 and D player who fits well beside John Wall. So…..good for him i guess

I dont’ think they offer him big bucks to stay.  They have Webster, Porter and Singleton.  There a quite a few decent SF free agents this off season so I don’t think Ariza should get greddy.

    Melo (player option)

    Gay (player option)

    Deng

    Haywood

    Marion

    Paul Pierce

    AK47

    Granger

    Aminu

    Butler

    Beasley

    Battier

    Marvin Williams

Agree with somebody above that he is a typical 3 & D player, who fits perfectly with Minnesota. The problem with players like Ariza is that when they perform well as a role player and get more responsibility, there efficiency seems to detoriate (as happend with Ariza when playing for Houston, but also what happened at first with Afflalo in Orlando). If they manage to become efficient with this increased responsibility, they are very, very valuable as a 3rd or 2nd option (as they can create their own shot a bit). Coming back to Ariza, I think he has reached his ceiling as a valuable player, but not as someone who you want creating with the ball in his hands. Therefore, Minnesota (3rd or 4th option), Cleveland or Detroit might be good options for him to go and play to his strenghts.
