We have our first trade of deadline month!

    And……….it’s a snoozer.

Milwaukee trades: Miles Plumlee to the Hornets

Charlotte sends: Roy Hibbert & Spencer Hawes to the Bucks

I get it from Milwaukee’s perspective, getting rid of their worst contract and a guy who isn’t in the rotation for 2 guys on much shorter deals. Hibbert probably won’t play much besides a 3-5 min spurt when other bigs get in foul trouble. I could see Kidd wanting to use Hawes as a high post passer who can hit an occassional long jump shot.

For the Hornets; They’re going to be capped out for the next 3 years basically. I have a hard time believing Miles Plumlee is the best they could do as a way to improve their bench (not sure he’s an improvement at all.) This team is in no mans land for the forseeable future. Not good enough to win a playoff series, not bad enough to bottom out.

Charlotte has now become what the Atlanta Hawks use to be.. Habitual midpack playoff team with no chance of lottery talent..

Not what Atlanta used to be, what we still are at the end of the day.

We might be playing well in the regular season, but the Cavs, Raptors, Celtics, and Wizards are all better than us.

Atlanta has recently made some pretty strong moves in the front office and with its scouting department.. Give it some time and you’ll see a difference… Atlanta had no vision before..

Only way to make sure tickets still sell with Lebron in the east.

Bucks fan here: Great trade. Like you said this gives the Bucks more financial flexibility going forward, as likely Hibbert nor Hawes will be in Milwaukee for the long-term and are on shorter deals.. This trade sort of rights the wrong of signing Plumlee to such a massive deal in the first place. That deal is still a head scratcher to me.

Maybe this is just me accepting what the NBA is as a two-team league but if you work for Charlotte, do you really care that much that you are a "habitual midpack playoff team with no chance of lottery talent"?

You win 45 games every year and get to the playoffs. That’s not good enough to win a title you are right. But you also stay employed. You are competitive year in and year out and even if you have a ceiling, you have a job.

I don’t know maybe that’s soft. But nobody else is winning in the NBA for a while so I guess none of these trades matter a whole lot. Hard to get excited one way or the other.

Charlotte is no top five market.  They are going with the "get in, get in, get lucky" approach I will be surprised if we don’t see another "trust the process".  That is the perfect way for a mid market team to aquire talent in a short amount of time.

Love this trade for the Bucks if no picks are involved. Basically get to wipe away that awful contract they signed Plumlee to after half a year for a couple expirings. Plumlee has been a no show all year, gotta wonder if Charlotte has watched any game tape on him or seen his stats this year.

As a Bucks fan, I cried tears of joy. I had been talking myself into trading Plumlee and a draft pick for Jamal Crawford to cut a year or 2 off of Plumlee’s deal. The fact that we might have just acquired two expirings for him without including a pick at all makes me rethink all hypothetical trades.

Great salary dump for the Bucks. Head scratcher for the Hornets. I think Plumlee is a solid big man, but not at a guaranteed $12.5 million over the next 3 yrs. There were cheaper big man out there.

More crying Jordan memes w/ Salt Bae sprinkling L’s

The Bucks free up cap space going forward, I assume that Big Roy will move on at the end of the season. He’ll get interest from a contender looking for a rim protector and would be a good bench guy for a relevant team. I’d assume that Hawes will opt in for $6 million next year and look to re-establish his market value.

A lot will depend what Monroe does as regards the Bucks frontcourt depth next season but if they are looking to play Maker more then there will now be time for him to play.

Charlotte have a fairly set starting 5 and are paying a fairly large salary for Plumlee who will be a bench player but moving both Hawes and Hibbert frees up more playing time for Frank the Tank. It gives them a core backcourt of Williams, Zeller, Plumlee and Frank the Tank.

Plumlee will get to work with Patrick Ewing which will also surely improve his game.

For a smaller team like Charlotte making the play offs is a decent feat and after many years in the lottery, they probably want to have a competitive team.

If we are truthful there may only be 2 or 3 teams in with a real chance of winning the title this year possibly 5 at a real push but not all the other play off teams will be looking to rebuild. Having a winning season, getting a possible divisional title and winning a play off round is something a lot of teams will consider a good season.

I’m not arguing that at all. My point is, why tie yourself to such a bad contract for such an average to below average player? They were likely a 7 or 8 seed with or without this trade. Unless Kaminsky or Zeller miraculously turn into a 17ppg scorer in the next few years (doubtful) they have no means for getting better. They could’ve used those contracts and maybe another asset to get a young player on a better deal who actually has some room to grow or brings something that the team doesn’t have yet.

ex: Vucevic makes basically the same $ but brings much more to the table. Orlando has been openly shopping him. Add your pick which will likely be in the 17-19 range and you may have a deal.
